Should I leave Structural Engineering for Aerospace? Grass isn’t greener or?
Bridge engineer who has an offer for a mech role in aerospace.
I’m not too happy at my current role but I’m not sure if I should make the jump or not.
For reference it will be a 40% pay increase but my commute increases from 30 minutes to a hour. I’m pretty underpaid at my current gig right now so that’s why the increase is pretty big.
I’m just curious if there is anything I should be aware of. I will have a clearance in the future (not sure if that impacts your life a lot). A few close bridge friends are telling me “the grass isn’t always greener” and to stay in bridge.
I’m a mid year engineer with 6 yoe. I guess I’m just trying to figure this all out and worried if I do make the jump, I won’t enjoy it.
For reference, I’m not the smartest person in the room but I’m a hard worker and my work ethic is really how I’ve made it this far. I tend to get a bit intimidated when I meet other engineers for the first time.
So just looking to hear everyone’s 2 cents. How has your time in Aero/defense been?
