My new ugly ass boots. Carhartt boots seem to have a bad reputation but I’ve been happy with these. They’re comfortable and protect my feet for a whole year before they lose their waterproofing.

Boots Buying Help Work boots for trash hauler

• Upvotes

Having a real tough time finding a pair of boots to last longer than 6 months working on the back of a trash truck. Honestly starting to believe there isn't a boot out there that can last! I work in Maine so I need a boot with great tread for snow and ice but light weight because I am running on pavement / dirt roads all day. Anyone have any recommendations that doesn't break the bank?

Boots Buying Help Slip-on work boots buying help

Currently wear the slip on Wolverine Romeo I-90 EXP carbon max, I walk on concrete all day and have been looking for some slip on wedge soles work boots. Would prefer waterproof/ resistant, possible safety composite toe (no steel). Any ideas. As of now I have looked into the Ariat Rebar Wedge Chelsea Comp and the USA version Brunt Ohmqn (unsure as I haven’t seen many reviews on the USA line Ohman, just know they regular version gets a lot of hate)

Boot Review | Update 10 Month Review of Tecovas' Moe-Toe Composite Toe Workboots

I will, first and foremost, freely admit to not conditioning them ever. They got beat up day in and day out. I got them warrantied because the stitching on the sides started to come out around the heel on both sides at the same time, which far and away was the least beaten up place on the boots. It was a manufacturing issue that got them warrantied. But the boots themselves otherwise were fantastic.

I come to these after years of wearing Red Wings, Ariats, and Wolverines. I specifically avoided moc toes because my pinky toe goes somewhat sideways and would rub along the side of the boot giving me eternal blisters. These don't do that. They're actually the single most comfortable boots I've ever owned. Even brand new, while I'm breaking them in, I've been on my feet all day on steel surfaces and haven't had an issue.

I work on ships in the engine room so they run the gamut of shit that gets on them. Krill biomass, oil, diesel, soaked in dirty water, smashed, abrased, and cut on rough and hard surfaces. The toe started wearing out to the composite shell underneath but considering how much time I spend kneeling, it wasn't all bad. The soles held up pretty well, I'm heavy so shit wears out quick but comparatively these weren't that fast. The slip resistance could leave a little to be desired. It is slip resistant, but some water or diesel on a deck a couple times almost took me out. Outside of around the toe, the leather itself held together pretty well especially considering the lack of care, and the color held decently as well.

Get new shoelaces when you buy these. My original ones broke within three to four months.

Gonna test these replacements out and hope that the heel stitching doesn't come out in several months.

All in all, worth the $260 or whatever I paid for them assuming the stitching doesn't come out again, or assuming that if it does, they're gonna be willing to warranty them again. Stiching aside, far superior quality to Red Wings. I hate all Tecovas customers and the company itself marketing to hyper rich assholes larping as cowboys is dumb and stupid but these boots are decent overall, and I'm hoping at some point they release some composite toe round toes.

Boots Buying Help Folks who drive Concrete Mixers - Go to boots?

Tired of sticking to water proof only boots. It takes a lot of options off the table. Do you guys buy a non "Water Proof" boot? What are your go too boots? Hosing your feet off multiple times a day.. occasionally standing in some water... What do you do?

Boots Buying Help double h graham sizing

I am a student and saved up on my first non used boot the double h graham 10.5d soft toe and finally arrived and since I live at south east Asia it took a while.

I got to say the leather and quality was really good but I do have a problem with the fit a little bit, my right foot feels great but since my left foot is longer by 4mm/0.16inch and wider by 2mm/0.075inch so my left foot felt tighter

my left foots instep was more snug and the ball was too and my left pinky and the second last toe was kinda being squished to the side especially when wearing thicker socks. and a lil quirk my left feet got is that my big toe is deformed as in the front joint of my toe and nail point upwards and sometimes it may press onto the top of the boot kinda touching the toe cap too. so I do not know of I should return them or would they break in and stretch? I tried them on with various socks with varying thickness and even tried removing the insole which btw helped a lot but was looser which I don't really like. returning them would be a hassle but necessary if they truly don't fit.

any advice?

Boot Rant Thursday Work Line??

Who else would kill for a made in the USA work line of boots? Like the Vanguard and Logger but like they made them legit OSHA or at least with the Loggers they full send made a great boot for heavy duty logging. Cuz If it were good, 8, it were on the affordable side, ultra durable leather, while still a hint of Thursday flare. I would buy.

Specific Model Question | Info Pretty disappointed in these Crazy Horse Thorogood… less than a year old.

These boots are under a year old. Between 10-11 months to be exact. If I don’t care for a leather boot at all, meaning all I ever do is hose it off. I don’t ever properly clean, brush or condition.. I’ll get 9-12 months out of them before they begin to crack like this. I did this when I was younger. Now that I’m older and have learned to appreciate my money, I take care of my things.

Keep in mind. These are not the only boots in my rotation and I treat all boots in work rotation the same.

These boots receive at least ONE brushing per week. Usually on Friday or Saturday. Sometimes two. I regularly hose them down at work. Multiple times a day. I’m constantly exposing them to harsh dry conditions which leads me to monthly conditions. I work in the ready mix industry. I do it all from delivering and operating a concrete mixer, to hauling in our own Type 1L in a pneumatic bulker and hauling in our own Sand and Dolomite on Super Trains. These Thorogood are a part of a 2 boot rotation. Sometimes a 3 boot rotation depending on the week. So they technically have half a year of wear. Ill note that I also work with chemicals like Knock Out Acid Wash for concrete. I don’t submerge in it, but they may get a small splash from time to time. (Again, keep in mind, all of my present and past boots get exposed to the same stuff)

Ever since I stared properly caring for my boots 5 or 6 years ago, I’ve not had a single pair split this way. I’ve had Redwings, Carolina, Drews. Ariat(sucked) and other brands. Those boots with the exception of the Ariats all lived on for 3 years before they just became old and uncomfortable with fairly worn soles and significant heel drop. The leather remained in tact, no splits no cracks and could have continued work. I just wanted new boots.

Then there are these Thorogood. Exposed to the same conditions and cared for in the same ways… yet they are both cracking in the same places. I would literally daily wear a boot like a wingshooter, no rotation and never take care of them in my 20s… and they’d last as long as these cared for Thorogoods.

Is it the Crazy Horse leather? I was under the impression that this stuff was nice and tough? Towards the beginning of their life I tried a new to me product called SnoSeal. Didn’t care for the way it darkened the leather. Moved on. Never re applied it. Just my monthly Bick 4 conditionings. I would do a nice coat over the whole boot. And focus on the break areas with a 2nd light coat really working it in which is where these are cracking. (Again, I have to keep reminding you guys, I do this with all of my boots and none of them have done this)

Anyways, is it the lather? Is this a Thorogood thing? Did I do something wrong as far as crazy horse needing to be cared for in a different way than other leathers?

What’s your experience been? I know a lot of guys have been unhappy with them the last few years. They were a pretty comfy pair of boots. Wanna get that Carolina 8 inch AMP but it’s not waterproof so it would never work out.

I’m ready to retire my redwings. Have had them for about 3-4 years but they’re starting to hurt after a day of climbing up and down a ladder and walking all day. I’m an electrician by trade, was wondering y’all are using? I don’t mind going back to redwings but not afraid to test waters with something else
(Not going to use brunt)

I dont know if this is allowed, but thought i would help someone out. There are 2 pair of size 14 redwings at ross in audubon nj. I go to ross whenever I'm near one for cheap work clothes and regular clothes really and was shocked to see redwings. I prefer thorogood, but $60 for usa made redwings I'll buy every pair my size. I'll be hitting all the ones in south jersey and the Philly area this weekend lol.

Worn for about 6 months (not at work, yet). Very easy break in and big time comfort. But... I'm not enjoying not having a loop on the back to help get them on. Anybody else feel that way? I don't mind keeping a geriatric length shoe horn by the front and back door, but this is the only pair of boots I need to use them with.

Boots Buying Help Want to buy some Nicks.. I deliver ready mix and hose my boots off multiple times a day.

I drive a concrete mixer. Through out the day I am always hosing down my boots. Getting all the mud, dirt and grime off of them. I hate climbing back into my cab with a boot that ways twice as much due to mud sticking to the bottoms. Occasionally I may even find myself standing ankle deep in water. (Not very often but enough to mention. Maybe once or twice a month if that)

I always buy my boots waterproof.. and that really takes a lot away as far as options go, especially when it comes to PNW boots. I know Nicks has a waterproof boot, however, I am not a fan of it and would prefer something a little different. More Traditional.

In the past, I have used products like Obenauf's and SnoSeal on non water proof boots, and while it helped, it was not a solution. It also darkens the boots so much that it seems to take away Patina as it also just really evens all of the tones out. at least in my experience.

Anybody have any suggestions or advice? How water resistant is a Nicks work boot? I am not opposed to other brands either.. Nicks, Whites, JK etc. Is there anything I can use to help waterproof that wont darken the leather SO MUCH that it takes away from good patina?

I would greatly appreciate any advice here! Thanks fellas.

Boots Buying Help Looking for recommendations

I’ve been using a free pair of boots I got from my old job and they are falling apart. My new job offers up to $200 for work boots every year and I’ve been looking for a pair. I don’t mind spending an extra 100 or 2 for a good pair. I cut grass and work inside and u clog basins and storm water drains during the summer and plow snow in the winter. Just looking for recommendations

Boots Buying Help best boots/shoes for retail/warehouse?

ive been working retail (aisle worker/warehouse) and it requires me to stand all day as well as walk and climb ladders. been wearing my old pair of timbs chelseas (crazy i know but it’s just what i have) and though they’re definitely still wearable they hurt my feet especially near the joints (specifically mtp) after a long day of work. mum bought me a pair of brooks max sneakers so i’ll try them out when they get here but im a big fan of boots and wear them more especially during the colder months.

i have a friend who suggested garmont, i was pretty hooked on steitz secura but it’s hard to get them to the U.S.
brunt seems to get a lot of bad reviews so i didn’t buy them yet (had these in the cart, seemed nice)

ideal price range is 100-200, i don’t mind going a little above 200 but 250 is a bit much right now.

Specific Model Question | Info I have weird feet.

Hi i was hoping to make the plunge and buy some nice work boots for my feet... however i have never not had issues selecting shoes as i am often choked out at the metatarsals.

im looking at getting the 'Thorogood Men's 6" Moc-Toe Wedge-Heel Non-Safety Boot- midnight'
and am thinking of getting a 9EE.

so lets talk details..

Length: 24.7cm // 9.73Inch
Width: 9.6cm // 3.74Inch

In work boots/ seekers i always wear 9.5D US

on the rare occasion they come in EE (and I mean rare) i would wear a 9EE US.

And yes, technically with my feet length i should wear 8E or a 8.5D;

however this literally never works i always end up with severe pain in my metatarsals.

my feet overpronate and i have a rather high instep - if that is of any help.

I'm from a country that does not allow my to "try before i buy" in any way at all without traveling overseas (these brands do not exist and there is no local comparison) and i will be unable to return if they don't fit

so TLDR

9EE or 8.5EE is the question..

Thank you for your insight.
