We’ve seen an increase in posts from people building record-related apps and tools. These include collection managers, listening trackers, discovery tools, marketplace helpers, and other projects aimed at record enthusiasts.
We want to give these projects a place to be shared without letting individual promotional posts overwhelm r/vinyl or the reason this sub exists. Going forward, please use this megathread to introduce your project, request testers, share meaningful updates, or ask for feedback. Separate promotional posts for these projects will be removed and redirected here.
Projects are welcome whether they are traditionally coded, developed with AI assistance, or fully vibe coded. Be transparent about your approach, and keep the discussion focused on what the tool does, how it works, and whether it is useful to the record owning community.
If you’re sharing a project, please include:
· Name and link: What is it called, and where can people find it?
· Purpose: What does it do? What problem does it solve?
· Your involvement: Are you the developer, owner, contributor, or otherwise affiliated?
· Availability and cost: Is it a prototype, beta, or released product? Is it free, paid, ad-supported, or subscription-based?
· Development approach: Was it traditionally coded, AI-assisted, or primarily vibe coded? A brief description is enough.
· Data and permissions: Does it require an account, collection access, third-party credentials, or other personal information? Explain what you collect and how it is used. If user data is sent to an AI service, disclose that.
· Feedback wanted: What would you like people to test or comment on? Include known limitations.
A few ground rules:
· Keep projects relevant to records, collecting, or the vinyl listening experience.
· Use one top-level comment per project. Add updates and answer questions in that comment’s replies.
· No repeated sales pitches, unsolicited promotional messages, disguised advertising, or requests to upvote.
· Be accurate about features, security, and reliability. Clearly identify unfinished or experimental projects.
· Do not ask users to post passwords, API keys, or other sensitive information in the thread.
· All subreddit rules still apply.
For anyone trying these tools:
Sharing a project here does not mean the r/vinyl moderators have reviewed or endorsed it. Review costs, permissions, and privacy practices before signing up or connecting your collection.
Useful feedback is encouraged. Discuss features, usability, accuracy, privacy, and reliability. Questions about AI use are fair, but personal attacks and arguments about who counts as a “real developer” are not.
If you find an app is not accurately representing what it does, what it collects, how it uses shared data, is somehow malicious or any number of other concerns, please message the Mod Team with a link to relevant comment.

I bought a bunch of water damaged records from a friend yesterday and there was one un damaged, unopened copy of rust never sleeps. So I opened it and listened to it and it felt great. I collect records for the music not the money.

In late 1991, while grunge was detonating and every magazine was scrambling to crown Nevermind as album of the year, Spin went with Teenage Fanclub’s Bandwagonesque instead. Spin wasn't wrong IMO.
This is the Scottish band’s third album (Creation in the UK, DGC in the US), and it’s pure, unapologetic power-pop/jangle filtered through a slightly scruffy Glasgow lens. Three songwriters—Norman Blake, Gerard Love, and Raymond McGinley—trading lead vocals and stacking those ridiculous harmonies. Producer Don Fleming basically told them “you guys can do harmonies, so do them,” and the rest is history. It sounds like Big Star finally got a proper sequel (critics still call it “Big Star’s 4th”), mixed with Byrds jangle, Beach Boys melodies, and a bit of Neil Young’s ragged edge, but with its own warm, slightly lazy charm.
Bandwagonesque didn’t reinvent the wheel. It just made the wheel sound better than almost anyone else was managing in 1991. While everyone else was either drowning in noise or chasing the next scene, TFC made a record full of sincere, slightly goofy love songs and massive melodies. Kurt Cobain called them “the best band in the world.” Liam Gallagher later ranked them second only to Oasis. Ben Gibbard (Death Cab) loved it so much he recorded a full-album cover and still calls it his favorite record by his favorite band.
I still love it.
My full collection.

I’ve been doing record fairs as a seller for many years now (15+) and of course we’re all a little quirky as collectors but some things just make me shake my head.
When I sell I’ve gotten into the habit of selling reissues but also bringing originals of the same album just in case people want to buy those.
However what happens 100% of the time is this scenario:
Dude looks at the reissue and says some snooty variant of “oh it’s only a reissue I’m looking for an OG”. To which I answer a variant of “well it’s your lucky day, here’s the OG.”
The answer is always a variant of “well I don’t want to spend that much on an OG” or “well I wasn’t planning on buying this today” or “yeah let me think about it” and then they disappear.
So annoying.
Before anyone asks, my OGs are priced well below the Discogs median.

Sorry for posting this again but it was removed for no comment. I’ve been waiting for months for this album to release. I never posted here but I just wanted to share.
Stakes is high

I had to drive to South Bend for a client meeting (that’s a 5 hour haul) this week and my AM knew I was a vinyl guy. Much to my surprise he pulls these two records out of his back pack as a present! I had pearl already but this copy is NICE and just dirty. I did NOT have the Willie Nelson so that was just wonderful! The records themselves are NM! What a pleasant surprise!

Today I received an album in the mail. I was very excited to get it and had a good laugh when I picked it up with the rest of my mail and saw a pizza box all tapped up. It worked great and I have no complaints. The record was well packed and protected inside. I thought I would share for a laugh. I'm curious if anyone else has a funny story about how a record was mailed to them.

Went to Goodwill and scored some awesome vinyl! And yes the Classic Yes still has the 33 1/3 7" included. So we have to have 100 characters to keep this from getting rejected by the bot? Okay I think I have reached that number!

Had some sheet left over from my sub build so I built a custom isolation platform with levelling feet. 38mm walnut veneered mdf, with sorbothane matched to the combined weight of the platform plus turntable.

Really interested in your opinions on this. I've been collecting for maybe 16-18 years. In the beginning I mostly went to record stores, flea markets, goodwill places and really dug for hours to find something interesting or fun. A lot of times I unexpectedly struck gold, but also often brought home rubbish, but it was a lot of fun to explore. Very rarely I used to buy online or on discogs. I've catalogued my collection and sometimes looked at prices to see whether I've made a bargain at a shop or not. In the last few years I've somewhat gone the opposite route. Now I buy songs, albums or artists that I already know and just want to have on vinyl. Because you can't find most of the more obscure stuff at your record stores I mostly buy on Discogs nowadays. Very rarely do I go digging and it's honestly not as fun anymore, because most stores sell on discogs as well, thus prices even for used records are higher. I feel like many record stores don't even bother with 5 or 10€ record bins anymore and have a lot less variety of used records on offer. Because prices are transparent to both sides, the chance for a bargain on my side is much lower and I'm much less inclined to buy a record, if it is far cheaper on discogs. I'm less surprised to find something cool, because I could get it on Discogs anyway ...
I'm not sure whether I just have changed and my love for digging has faded or whether the "game" has changed.
How do you feel about this?

Scavenging a bargain bin in a flea market and well ... this. Even weirder that the seller decided to priced it for only over two dollars.
Anyway, it's apparently a bit of NK propaganda songs; the first one is the good 'ol Song of General Kim Il-sung. The rest of it are supposedly (North) Korean folk (which for me, sounds practically the same as typical Chinese folk, at least in this record).

Replacing some of the pieces from my youth. Friday and Saturday evenings at the coffee shop before heading out for the evening were usually between Type O Negative and Tricky. A little bit of a swing in sounds but it's what we enjoyed in the middle of nowhere.

I was never a huge fan of The Who, but bought this last weekend because it reminded me of a buddy who is a massive fan. I had just snapped pics of it to send to him when I found out he died yesterday. He went to the ER with stomach pain on the same day I bought the record and died a week later.
Life is funny and sad.
I like to imagine that maybe this was his when he was a kid and he's the one that cut some of the pictures out.
He was one of the best humans I've ever known.

Horror soundtracks and horror adjacent sleeves.
Death Dealers is a good one. Bootleg of weird death songs and interviews with serial killers between each track (Ed Gein, Albert de Salvo, Jeffrey Dahmer, John Wayne Gacy - who also painted the portrait of Elvis for the sleeve).
Andy Warhol's Frankenstein, unusual record, pity the Velvets didn't do the soundtrack. Good sleeve though.
Lux Interior's Purple KNIF Show with a ton of horror novelties. Comus, prog band with very unsavoury lyrics (necrophilia, rape, murder).
I only bring these out for Halloween, otherwise I keep them away from the rest of my collection (in a coffin with the lid nailed shut).

"Frankenstein was a real old meenie but the coolest creep in the town" & "just a little old lady from Transylvania" (the best Glen Campbell album ever IMO)

Got this unpressed record puck..aka "biscuit". I have a stamper and now a biscuit. Very interesting how a biscuit and stamper come into the pressing of a vinyl.

Im not sure where I acquired this but I came across it in my collection and noticed the label is way off centre, so much so that it covers some of the grooves of the final track. What other manufacturer errors have you come across and is there a specific collectors market for this sort of thing
