VPN Recommendations Megathread - Best VPN Providers, user reviews & VPN Deals
We get a lot of questions about the best VPNs and which VPNs have the best user reviews as well as where to find the best VPN deals. That's why we run this VPN recommendations megathread every two months. This is the one and only place on the subreddit to ask for VPN recommendations, share your favorite VPN provider, discuss your experience, and post legitimate VPN deals.
The goal is to build a collection of genuine VPN user reviews that helps others choose the right VPN provider.
If you’re recommending a VPN, make it useful:
- Share what you use it for (streaming, privacy, gaming, torrenting, travel, bypassing geo-blocks, etc.).
- Go beyond generic features - personal experience is very interesting for our user-base
- Comments that only name a provider will be removed
Main rules:
- No affiliate or referral links.
- No links to VPN review websites.
- No obvious shilling
Compare VPN providers first
Before posting, check out our regularly updated VPN comparison table, where you can compare features, pricing, speeds, streaming support, and more. It may answer your question before you need to ask.
As always, this thread is actively moderated to keep recommendations genuine, helpful, and free from spam.

VPN Comparison Table
Best VPNs comparison table in Google Sheets
* * *
Most of us here are quite keen on spreading the word on how even the simplest steps toward online privacy is a huge leap forward for our online security. Having in mind the extensive tracking and targeting by almost everything we use online (ISPs, search engines, social media, streaming sites, ads, etc.), we're able to use these VPN-related subreddits to try and make it as simple as possible for people to choose and start using the best VPN that can help avoid at least some part of that.
The goal of all of this is to make sure that even those who don’t understand much about tech are aware of the risks and challenges we face these days when it comes to online privacy. We're all aware that a VPN isn't an 'all in one' tool which fully protects our privacy, but it's surely a good place to start.
It’s probably obvious to people who have been following this topic for a while that this table is inspired by That One Privacy Guy. He did an amazing job back in the day but unfortunately the information hasn't been updated in ages so it isn't as reliable as it used to be. It was a very important and useful tool, so I thought we could make it a community effort to bring it back. Anyone who would like to collaborate on this please get in touch with me over DMs. Also, in case you notice any mistakes - feel free to point those out, too.
You will see a table with scores, explanations on how each score was calculated, as well as detailed information by provider for each criteria. As I mentioned before, if you notice any mistakes or outdated information - please DM me with the source so we can fix it. Let's make sure it's up to date and as helpful as it can

Question Buying Area-Specific Streaming Service Via VPN?
Hi!
I just got a VPN service for the first time. My intent was to watch a show that releases three episodes a week, but always releases them a week ahead in the USA compared to my area. I wanted to avoid spoilers.
However, I later realised that the show is distributed by different streaming services in the USA and in my area, and the US service isn't available at all for me. I would have to buy a new subscription to the US streaming service, using my foreign bank details, through my VPN.
Is that smart?

Help Genuine question, what is more of a risk to my security?
Verifying my age to use age restricted services (I'm from Australia for context) or using a free vpn to bypass it completely? (which I've heard aren't safe)

Discussion What's the first thing that breaks when you turn on your VPN?
For me, it's usually my bank's website. It blocks me as soon as I connect, and sometimes my printer disappears from the network too.
What usually stops working for you when you turn on your VPN? Banking, streaming, gaming, or something else?

Help VPN client does not have split tunneling
It normally does, but I'm on Linux and their Linux client has yet to see any update regarding that. I would switch services but I want to see if I have any other options because I want to make the most of what I paid.
My fault for not checking first but it simply didn't cross my mind, I assumed it's basic enough that it should be there.
Is there any other way? I've spent hours searching around but no dice

Help Can I use a VPN to complete a Victorian CGEA while overseas?
I'm an Australian citizen currently living overseas, and I'm looking at completing a CGEA (Certificate of General Education for Adults) through a Victorian provider.
From what I've found, if the course is being completed under Victorian Skills First funding, students are supposed to be physically present in Victoria while undertaking the training and assessment.
My question is more about the "practical/technical" side of this.
If I'm overseas but connect to the course through a VPN with an Australian/Victorian IP address, would the TAFE/RTO generally be able to tell that I'm actually overseas?
For example, would their online learning system/assessment platform only see the Australian IP address, or are there other ways they could determine my actual location?
I'm an Australian citizen and would be completing the course myself. I'm just currently living overseas, so I'm trying to understand whether studying this way remotely is technically possible and whether anyone has actually done it.

Discussion What's the weirdest internet restriction you've encountered at work or school?
Some schools and workplaces have surprisingly strict internet restrictions, and a few of them make absolutely no sense.
I get blocking certain websites for security reasons, but I've heard of places blocking YouTube tutorials, cloud storage services, or even basic communication tools that people actually need for work or studying.
What's even more frustrating is when something works perfectly fine on mobile data but becomes completely inaccessible on the office or campus Wi-Fi.
And then there's the VPN situation. Some networks block VPN connections entirely, while others seem to block certain protocols or services.
What's the strangest restriction you've run into?

Discussion Channel 4 (UK) no longer working in the last 24 hours, anyone else?
I was watching Channel 4 on my Apple TV and my iPad yesterday, no problem, based in the US. Today I tried to watch Channel 4 and it says "This programme is not available in your area." My date/ time is set to London. My login is a UK address and UK credit card. I tried cycling servers on VPN, didn't work. Also tried over both WiFi and mobile data on my iPhone with all the above fixes, doesn't work there either. Anyone else have this problem? All my other UK channels work - BBC, ITV, and even Channel 5, which is the same company as Channel 4.
ETA: Support for the relevant updated that there it is known issue and they are working on a fix. No timeline yet.

Discussion US VPN users: looking for 3–5 people to share everyday frustrations
Hi everyone — I’m part of a VPN product team, and we’d like to hear from a few people about what using a VPN in the US is actually like. The moderators invited us to submit this for review; we’re keeping brand names and promotional links out as requested.
We’re looking for 3–5 adults (18+) currently in the US who use, or recently stopped using, a VPN. All backgrounds are welcome, including international students and Chinese-speaking users living in the US. English or Chinese is fine.
To start, just a relaxed 15–20 minute text conversation here on Reddit: what made you turn a VPN on recently, what gets annoying, and what would make the experience worth keeping? Connection reliability, apps not working, ads, free limits, and pricing are all fair game. Negative feedback is useful too.
No download, purchase, public review, or endorsement is needed. This first conversation is voluntary; there is no confirmed payment or reward for this invitation. Any later product trial or paid session would be discussed separately, with the details agreed before you decide to take part.
We won’t ask for your IP address, ID, exact address, or browsing history, and won’t publish identifiable quotes without permission. Please don’t name VPN providers in the comments, in line with the sub’s rules.
Interested? Leave a short comment saying what part of the VPN experience you’d most like to improve. No need to post personal details. We’ll reply here first and only move to a private chat if you’re comfortable with that.

Help 400 strangers in my family VPN
Started with WireGuard on a spare PC for family/friends. Dropped configs in a local Telegram group and it blew up to 60 people—one core, no client isolation, total mess. Rebuilt on proper VPSs (WireGuard + Outline + Xray, managed via BeAdmin): now sitting at 3 servers, ~400 peers, multi-hop across two countries, all free. Funny thing is bandwidth isn't even the bottleneck—it's the uptime pressure when a 20-min outage means someone's mom can't text them. Anyone else accidentally become the unpaid ISP for their local community?
