Other Should I have received a ballot yet

Salt Lake County.

First time Utah voter after moving over the summer...trying to get a sense of what's normal.

Registered in like May and my voter registration shows as active. Zero indication that my ballot has been mailed yet on any of the trackers. Is this normal or should I be calling the county clerk? Is it dependent on the city I live in?

UPDATE: I called the clerk. I'm opted out of a mail ballot (even though I re-registered to opt in after I realized my screw up). I have to vote in person and they can apparently change to future mail voting there.

Press Release

For Immediate Release 10/26/2026

Indivisible Ogden

Local community Activist, David Belnap, was arrested on Sunday for placing signs identifying the locations of ALPR AI surveillance cameras, known commonly under the brand 'Flock'. Information regarding surveillance technology such as location and use of cameras should be freely available to the public. Mr. Belnap, by placing signs, ones that do not obstruct the use of the camera, was providing information which should already be accessible to the public.

Hundreds of AI Surveillance ALPR cameras are operated by agencies across Weber County, such as Weber County Sheriff, various municipalities, and private businesses. These cameras are leased from companies including Flock, Motorola, Axon, and others. There is no official registry of ALPR camera locations, with community advocates struggling to get information agency by agency. Significant gaps exist within Utah's ALPR policy as an ever interconnected world provides more avenues for abuse and misuse. According to information released by the Utah Civic Compact, the Weber County Sheriff’s ALPR data was searched five million times, with 96% of those searches coming from outside of Utah, with a shocking 125,719 from federal agencies. Utah law offers some protections against agency misuse of this technology, but none that limit how the companies themselves use the data analysed from ALPR systems.

Local community activists were notified of sheriff deputies harassing Mr. Belnap while placing these non-obstructing markers identifying the location of AI surveillance cameras. Activists arrived at the location to find Mr. Belnap's car being towed and Mr. Belnap arrested. The County has not yet made bail available to Mr Belnap.

We demand that the Sheriff department not arrest people who simply want to clearly mark when civil rights are being endangered by privatized surveillance.

We are asking community members to speak out against injustice. Contact the Weber County Sheriff about the arrest of Mr. Belnap, your state representative to ask for clear policy governing ALPR companies and agencies, and your mayor or city councilor about not spending tax dollars on AI surveillance technology.

On Monday, Oct. 26th, join us at 4 p.m. to stand in solidarity for our valued colleague. We will gather by the road that leaves the jail, on the NW corner of 12th and Depot Drive (700 West 12th Street), to demand his release!

Then join us on TUESDAY, Oct. 27th, at 6:00 p.m. for a Community Forum on FLOCK cameras, at Pleasant Valley Library, 5568 S. Adams Ave., Washington Terrace, in the Black Box Theatre.,

Utah actually has 3 federal wildlife refuges, but the Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge has to be one of the top birding destinations in the United States. It's a great spot for photography, too.

Travel Advice What is the More Scenic or Fun Drive?

Making plans to head to Brian Head for an event next July.

I really have two different options, and I'm wondering which one is the more scenic or fun drive:

  1. Fly into SLC and drive to Brian Head.

  2. Fly into Vegas and drive to Brian Head.

Won't really have time to make a lot of stops, but if one route is just a better driving experience, I would lean towards that.

I've spent a lot of time in SLC for work, so I know that airport and the immediate surrounding area. Never been further south than Midvale, though.

Been to Vegas a few times, but of course never made it off the Strip.

I know SLC to Brian Head is further, but I'd trade off if the drive is better.

Q&A Beware of salvage/rebuilt/ hail damaged cars

Trying to buy my daughter a new car and we ended up looking at a rebuilt title car. We liked the car but found out Allstate will not insure rebuilt title cars. Also Goldenwest Credit Union will not give you a loan for a rebuilt title car bought from a dealership but will if it is bought from an individual.

We are looking at a hail damaged car (GP Motors)and we still are not sure if it will have a clean title or not.

How do these large dealerships like AutoSavvy sell cars if you can’t insure them or get a loan on them?

September was the biggest month on record for ICE flights through Utah.

One man who was taken to California joked that the chains around his hands, feet and waist made him feel as important as the drug lord El Chapo.

Other First time voting: my ballot did not seal

2026 is my first time voting, so I don't know what to expect. I filled out my ballot and put it in the envelope, followed all the instructions, wrote in my ID number, signature, etc. Then I tried to seal the envelope, but when I wetted the seal and pressed it down, it didn't seal, and now the sealer is gone. I'm not sure where to go, and I have not found any helpful information online despite my best efforts. My dad said to just use tape, but I have no way to know if that's okay or not.

I was planning to just drop it in one of the ballot boxes, but I can't do that right now because the ballot isn't sealed. I would very much prefer this option to voting in person, and for voting by mail, I assume I'd still need to seal the envelope.

Travel Advice Is Millcreek, Utah a safe neighborhood?

My family (seniors included) is thinking of relocating to Millcreek, Utah, specifically to the neighborhood that intersects 4500 S and 900 E. How safe is this neighborhood? Is it a generally quiet residential place? Would we be okay walking around in the evening, taking a stroll to a nearby park, or grabbing something from Walgreens or Smith's? This location appeals to us because of the proximity to a couple big grocery stores. We're hoping to be in a convenient place that's not too far from public transportation, so we can hop on a bus and ride to downtown or the university. But also live in a more suburban relaxed neighborhood with some peace and quiet.

Other Need recommendations on the best place in Utah to adopt an affordable adult dog

This would be for my family. We live in a small townhouse with a small backyard. I've been researching "best dog breeds for apartments" even though we do not live in an apartment.

My kids have been asking for a dog for a long time and it would help my oldest especially with lowering his anxiety.

We would love a doodle mix adult dog. But currently can't afford the $2,000 people have been asking for.

We will take this dog on walks and when it's spring again we will go on a short hikes with us.

Just never have looked to adopt a dog until now.

If you have any good recommendations please let me know. Thank you

Other 2026 Pheasant Hunt - Looking for a partner/group

Hey everyone,

I'm new to Pheasant hunting and would love to be able to get out with someone who has a little more know-how this season. I don't have dogs, but I do have everything else needed. I'm in northern Utah and would be hunting the general season (non-youth). I am an experienced turkey hunter but have never been out for upland. Thanks.
