Social Do We Think it's The Generation or The University?
So many posts in the past few years, and especially this year, are lowkey just talks about how isolated and unwelcomed and depressed people feel. It's really quite awful.
I think it's become overwhelming to the point basically every comment section underneath is ChatGPT tier summaries of mental health advice and, as someone who used to struggle a lot with it but has since felt better, I would say less than empathetic responses (which is often what the posts are really about anyway). But I can't really blame folks, like we don't know each other, and the sheer volume of these kinds of posts is getting to be overwhelming.
I don't dwell in other universities spaces often so I don't know how this compares but it seems uniquely bad? I will say as an out of stater I have noticed that folks here are pretty brazen about giving people the cold shoulder, with a pretty strong generational difference between open and friendly middle aged and older adults and often unfriendly university aged students. But again I could be totally off base- maybe it's worse at other universities.
