UMBC Discord Server!

Hello fellow UMBC students!

So a friend of mine and I have created a Discord server for the UMBC campus. We think it would be a great way to make connections with peers and share study help, meetups, memes, and anything related to UMBC. The invite is here! Good luck to @everyone with your finals!

ECON 482 with Prof. Chunming Yuan

• Upvotes

Has anyone taken ECON 482 with Professor Chunming Yuan over the winter? If so, how was the class and the professor? I’d especially appreciate any feedback on the exams and how difficult they were.

Thank you!

Need some advice for classes next semester

Hello guys I am a junior biology major and for next semester I was planning on doing PHYS112 and BIOL300L since I will be finishing PHYS111 this semester. The problem is BIOL300L has a lecture now and it overlaps with physics. I need to take bio lab next semester as i still need 2 upper level labs to graduate and i want to just get physics over with so i don’t forget and i can take them in sequence. What should I do?

Need some advice on wether to take BIOC 438 and PHYS 122 for Spring 2027

Yo, what is this timeslot for BIOC 438. There is one class at 8:45-9:50 AM MWF. For physics, exams are on 8-8:50 on Monday.

I am a junior bioc major and it's pretty frustrating that I can't take both at the same time. If I take BIOC 438 and PHYS 122, it'd be a continuation of this semester, 437 & 121. However, since I can't take both at the same time due to the time slots being overlapping, which one should I take in the spring semester and which one in the fall.

BIOC is with Prof Songon An

Physics is with Prof Cody Goolsby-Cole

BIOL 416 with Maricel Kann

Hi! Has anyone taken BIOL 313 with Maricel Kann? What was your experience like in the class, and would you consider it a relatively easy 400-level BIOL elective? This would also be my first computer science-related class at UMBC, so would you recommend taking it without any prior experience, or do you think I would struggle?

UMBC application questions after submitting Common App

I will submit my common app for UMBC tomorrow. I now see on the website that after I apply I will get an email and I will have to confirm supporting documents were received and complete the “required application questions”. Does that all need to happen before the early action Nov 1 deadline?

UMBC alumni application fee waiver

Hi! My daughter is a Maryland high school senior applying to UMBC for Fall 2027.

Are there any UMBC alumni here who participate in the referral program and have an unused code they’d be willing to offer?

West Hill vs Walker

hii i’m currently living jn hillside and thinking about either doing west hill or walker next year

if someone has lived in both and can compare the major pros and cons of both that would be great — but i also had a few questions specifically abt west hill

• how big are the individual rooms (compared to hillside if possible)
• how is the bathroom situation
• how thin are the walls (asking bcuz hillside has the thinnest walls ever 😭)

also is that thing abt mold in west hill true …
thx!

PBHL420 with Dr. Park

Hello! I’m currently taking pbhl 300 with Dr. R and 420 with Dr. Park so, I’m very much aware of the fact that Dr. R is a way more lenient teacher with less workload. However, she is not teaching 420 next semester and I would like to take 420 so that it could possibly transfer and satisfy a major req at UMD.

I want to know if Dr. Park’s 420 classes are hard and how they compare to either Dr. R’s 420 or his 202 class.

Am I tripping or did the food portions become smaller at Commons? The food looks more expensive and more rationed.

I just bought something from halal shack today, it only had big bowls, but the portions were unbelievably rationed more than yesterday, I was able to see the food drowning deeper in the bowl.

thanks so much!!
