Listen we aren’t advisors here. Ask them not us.

Im tired of this sub being bombarded with “I got rejected from …..” “what average do I need for…..” “ what grade will they look at…” “ i have a 96 in …. Is that good enough for …..”

Please ask the advisors. We don’t have the answers. You’re about to be an adult and need to know who to ask the right questions. No one goes on here to read your high school marks and let you know if you will get into whatever program. We dont know. We can guess. But the advisors will 100% have more accurate information.

Go on Ucalgary website, go on advising, and find what times they have online advising.

Or email your faculty’s advisors.

For example in engineering its engginfo@ucalgary.ca

Please it will be a win win for everyone if people stopped trying to use this as an academic advisor subreddit.

EDIT: Another redditor in the comments brought up an important point.

“Let me just clarify the Engineering Advisor DO NOT REVEIW High School Admission. Asking them why you didn't get in or waitlisted is a waste of time.

Only the admissions department can answer those questions so please contact them or visit them for advising.

Admission website: https://www.ucalgary.ca/future-students/undergraduate/contact

If you are a transfer student from a different university or different facility and are planning to transfer into Engineering then contact the Engineering Advisors.”

Thanks for the added info!

Best of luck with getting into U of C we are happy to have you!

Math 211

To the people sitting in front of, behind me, and in the same row as me in the 5pm math 211 lecture with dr. Shahada, kindly shut the fuck up. I’m paying to take this class and all you’re doing is distracting me from the lecture content that I paid for with a professor I love. The class is genuinely hard and I’m already working my ass off to be barely passing the first midterm with 53% (thanks anxiety disorder) despite my accommodations. The webwork and the written assignments went decently but after practing my butt off and paying for a tutor multiple times, I’m annoyed. I’ve put a lot of time and energy into this course along with the rest of the draining energy from my other two courses. I genuinely don’t understand why people are talking about math in the math lecture to your seat partner instead of listening to the lecture. It’s infuriating. I have ADHD and am easily distracted by outside stimulus and this is just a cruel joke. Paying attention to the lecture and writing notes was already hard enough and you put this on top.

Not to mention the tedious matrix calculations we have to do entirely by hand, that are prone to mistakes and mean one missed negative sign or a transcription error means you get the entire question wrong and half a page of work is useless.

The math concepts are genuinely beautiful but it’s infuriating that I like math but have trouble with it already and then there’s people in the lecture making it even more difficult despite my trying really hard to just pass the class.

I love the professor. The content is fun when I get it, but I want to cry every time I make a silly mistake because I’ve gone too fast on the question. Like okay but I know that from high school and got feedback like that from past teachers but this university math is a degree of difficulty higher than I’ve ever had and with other circumstances in life, this has been some of the most draining experience ever for me.

Just please shut up and listen to the prof.

Me and a friend are visiting Calgary for the week, both of us are in uni so we're looking to see if there's anything fun to do during the week that students like to do? Any suggestions would be great.

Transfer Applicant

• Upvotes

Hi everyone, I’m currently taking the Pre-Health Sciences course at SAIT and I was wondering whether I’m able to apply to one of the programs at UofC using my gpa in my current course. It’s a fairly new program designed specifically to enter the healthcare fields at SAIT but I wanted to explore my options as it’s very competitive to enter the program that I want to get into. I’ve emailed the transfer admission team but it’s been a week and no reply so I was wondering if anybody had any info of what my next steps can be before I apply to a program at UofC. Most of the courses I’m taking are somewhat a repeat of high school and I’ll be completing 15 credits by the end of December. Any help and insight is appreciated, thank you!

SECOND DEGREE APPLICANT TO YR1 NURSING

• Upvotes

I have completed a Bachelor of Science degree at the University of British Columbia Okanagan (UBCO) and am currently applying to the University of Calgary’s Year 1 Bachelor of Nursing program. I am also in the process of completing the required Human Anatomy and Physiology prerequisites through Thompson Rivers University.

I completed high school in Calgary and have already completed the following high school prerequisites:
Mathematics 30-1 or 30-2
English Language Arts 30-1
Chemistry 30 or Science 30
Biology 30

I would appreciate clarification on a few questions regarding the admission requirements:
GPA calculation: Since I have already completed a bachelor’s degree, will my admission GPA be calculated using my university grades, my high school grades, or a combination of both?
Human Anatomy and Physiology prerequisites: If my university grades are used to calculate my admission GPA, do I need to have completed all 6 credits of Human Anatomy and Physiology before submitting my application, or can I complete these courses after applying, provided they are finished by the required deadline?
High school transcripts: My application portal currently only requests my university transcript. Could you please clarify how I should submit my high school transcript to ensure that my completed high school prerequisites are assessed

Overall I would like to determine whether Am I eligible to apply and be considered for the first lottery round for u of c nursing year 1, with the completion of my high school grades?

Econ 201 midterm 2

I’m in prof. Tedds class and her midterms are so ridiculous, only 40 mins for 40 questions? Barely anyone was done by the time the timer went off. What’s it like for the final?

Engineering internship

At the beginning of this month I received an email from ECC that I am not qualified for the Engineering internship program. Likely because I have more than 2 courses missing. However, I did receive multiple interview requests from companies that I've applied to prior to receiving that email. So I ended up giving interviews anyway. Now if I do end up getting an offer letter, should I just decline it or reach out to ECC? For more context I'll be graduating next in Winter 2028 if I don't do an internship.

Lease January-April 2027

Hi everyone! I'll be in Calgary for a co-op work term and need a place near downtown or the Beltline from January-April 2027.

If you have a spare unit, a sublet, or a lease ending around April, or you know someone who does, I'd really appreciate a message.

Thanks so much!

Cenovus accounting summer student interview timeline

How long after applying did you receive the one way video interview invitation? And after completing the one way interview, how long did it take to hear back about an in person interview?

I’m trying to get an idea of the timeline and whether interviews might take place during December.

Question about major change

Heyo! Sorry if this is a dumb question but I'm a little confused.

I'm currently in urban studies but I want to swap into geography. I was attempting to fill out the form in my student center, however it said that geography wasn't available for fall 2027. Do I have to meet with the department head In person to swap properly? Is there something else I'm not aware of?

Thinking of going back to school

I graduated at SAIT last year in IT but couldn't find a job in the field despite self learning & keep applying. At the same time, deep down in my heart, I've always wanted to go to Werklund of Education to become a highschool teacher. I'm planning to go back to school within 4-6 years while I'm currently paying my loan, help my parents, etc. but somehow afraid that I'm starting to feel left behind in life and considering that I'll be in my 30s once I go back.

Guys Help 😭Am I screwed ?

I missed an online midterm worth 30% because I left my laptop at the office and through that nightmare of finding my pc I totally forgot bout the quiz and couldn’t access a computer until almost 48 hours after the deadline.

Has anyone been in a similar situation? You guys thinks theres any chance the professor might help me ? or offer a makeup for less grade ? I’m planning to email them ASAP, but I’m stressing out.
😭😭😭😭
