Moderator Post We will not be removing all sexual questions.

We've had a few complaint threads, so it seems to be about that time for one of these reminders. Let me be clear: We are not going to ban all sex related questions.

They are firmly within "TooAfraidtoAsk", and always have been. Sex is a fairly taboo topic in a lot of places, and a lot of people have questions about it. (And as an additional reminder, TATA is not only for controversial questions. Nor do we allow question shaming for "googleable" questions). These are not new changes.

We get that not everyone has the same interest in those topics, but it is a core part of the sub. Currently, there are ~5 out of the top 10 posts being sex related. Earlier today, it was 4. Earlier this week, it was 3. It typically fluctuates between ~3-5, usually averaging closer to 3.

If you have particular suggestions (e.g. things that seem ripe for the FAQ), or questions feel free to post them below. No promises, but we're always open for improvements if they're feasible. For a list of common questions we get on this topic (what do we already moderate, has the sub changed?, can i filter posts myself?) see the first stickied comment.

Politics Politics Megathread

You know the deal, same as the previous megathreads, which were archived.

The rules:

All top level OP must be questions. This is not a soapbox. If you want to rant or vent, please do it elsewhere. Otherwise, the usual sidebar rules apply (in particular: Rule 1:Be Kind and Rule 3:Be Genuine).

The default sorting is by new to make sure new questions get visibility, but you can change the sorting to top if you want to see the most common/popular questions.

Habits & Lifestyle My friend joked that how I sleep is serial killer behavior. Is this really that weird?

I'm single and I live alone. For the last 10 years or so, I've gotten in the habit of just sleeping on top of my covers in basketball shorts and a t-shirt in the summer, and in pajama pants and a hoodie in winter. When I'm not sleeping alone, I do sleep under the covers.

I've honestly never really thought anything about it, but it came up in conversation the other day. My friend jokingly asked me how long I've been a serial killer ad then told me how weird it is.

So I gotta ask, is this really that weird?

Interpersonal Is she having an affair?

Me (F42) and partner (F40) have been together more than 10 years and we have been devoted to each other with everyday full of love in the home we brought together.

She met some new people I dont know and started changing how she talked to me and becoming quiet and and since then she removed our profile picture on social media and put one of just her. She hides her phone when I come near but we used to use each others phones all the time and if she is looking at it when I come in she swipes what is on the screen away and she makes calls in other rooms so I cant here her and she made accounts private. she talks to me ok if it is just about small things but when she talks to any one else she sounds more happy.

I asked her if she is seeing some one else and she got angry and said it was just like me to make out it was her fault instead of mine but I have not changed how I am with her so I dont understand. She says she loves me and everything will be okay but she needs time and she has just changed but it will be okay she is just changing and I must accept that we will be different but still together. She has stopped doing any of the things that couples do for each other and it feels like we are now 2 friends living in one house but only she has a say in what we talk about or do. We still do things together but she never holds my hand if we are walking which we always do everywhere and if I try and talk about us she is angry and upsets me and I feel scared to say anything.

My friends say she is having an affair because of how she is acting and I just sit and cry all day and that makes her angry to and she says it does not need to be this dramatic and I should just wait for her to explain when she wants to but I cant stop and she wont say why she cant tell me now she gets angry at me if I ask and she says every time there is nobody else.

Some friends say she is torturing me and it is domestic abuse and I should make her move out but I am too scared to do any thing in case it is just some thing she cant speak about yet and it will be okay in future.

Mental Health What’s the point in therapy?

I mean this as a genuine honest question. I’m not saying it in a rude way. What actually is the point in therapy?

I’ve gone to a couple different therapist and sessions years ago. I’ve never had good experiences with any of them, unfortunately. Every time I was in a session, my emotionally abusive mom was in the room right next to me and would talk for me.

I actually kinda liked a couple of the therapists. But when I would ask my mom if I could see them again, they weren’t available for another couple months, so I just kinda stopped going.

Outside of the room, the way my mom and dad ever talked about it was implying that it was bribing a busy person to let you hurt them with your problems. The same problems that chased everyone else away. Basically just paying someone to stay and let you hurt them on top of everything else they have to deal with, while the only thing you get out of it is knowing you took out your anger and frustration on an innocent person.

I’ve been recommended therapy a couple times, but the idea makes me uncomfortable. I hate hurting people, and I don’t want to hurt anyone. I especially don’t want to have to bribe someone $50 to let me pile my problems on them two or three times a year.

What is the point in therapy?

Love & Dating Are there other women who find men without body hair more attractive?

Ok so, I never realized how bizarre my opinion was until recently, but I much prefer men who dont have, or shave their body hair, as long as its not stumps. Its extremely rare to find so I have accepted that I won't find someone like that, but i have been surprised to see most women actively like the body hair on men.

Health/Medical i smell a sickness ?

i don’t know how to describe it as - i smell a sickness inside of me. or at least what i think is a sickness. it’s almost like an ammonia/sweet smell. GROSS but when i had kidney stones, this is what my pee would smell like. now i’m fine and have been okay and no symptoms of kidney stones in a couple of months. i feel like i smell it when i breathe from my insides, i smell it through my mouth and nose and then i also smell it with me pee. it’s so faint that only i’m catching it but it’s making me freak out that somethings wrong on the inside and the doctors appointment is in a few weeks. i also don’t want to be a hypochondriac and book random appointments.

ps. i have been feeling like i can’t fully empty my bladder and need to pee way more.

Culture & Society Can someone explain why AI Generated content doesn't looks good to the eyes?

I like to think that it is connected to the uncanny valley effect because technically all AI does is replicate things made and captured by humans so the dislike can come from the fact it feels wrong seeing something that doesn't have any organic life attempt to create something that was captured or created by a person. I do acknowledge that this question has a dimension of subjectivity to it and it seems that it's mostly Gen Z people who tend to have this response of rejection towards it.

I am not asking this question because it's linked to a specific context but I will say that I don't like walking around or scrolling through social media and come across ads that have been clearly altered with AI. The designs look way too cluttered and it doesn't gets better for social media publicity because I can't really tell said ads are part of a scam or if they do legitimately provide the services/products/courses, etc. they swear to have but they just opt to use AI for promotion.

Culture & Society Why is the word "Brit" or "Yank" acceptable, but the P word isn't?

• Upvotes

Please note - I am NOT saying we should say the P word (the racist term for Pakistani), I'm not saying it's okay to use. I'm genuinely wondering why some terms are okay and considered acceptable, but some are not okay and considered racist. Is it the intent behind the word?

Apologies if I'm coming across uneducated. This is a genuine question.

I’m Black myself, and I’ve always wondered how important sunscreen really is for darker skin.

Culture & Society Why do people say that people criticizing what someone wears are often jealous?

My mom hated how I dressed (and generally criticized everything I did), but she was ashamed and guilty that I was her daughter and felt that not following her rules meant she had failed me. I was per pet project which she tried to control and nothing short of perfection, according to her standards, would do.

I used to have a bad sense of style and liked things she didn't and she thought that what I wore made look insane. It didn't, but she was very conservative and thought the meaning of dressing was to stave weather and fit in. Self-expression, in general, was thought as drawing attention and narcissistic and caused her to be ashamed about me for wanting to stand out. She would call me deranged and go on rants about how everyone on the street would think I went mad.

She would also be obsessed with making sure my hair was perfect and because I have very fine thin hair she didn't allow me to grow it long because it was too flat and that was not flattering. She force cut my hair so I wouldn't embarrass myself anymore.

I didn't really dress provocatively or alt, just unique. I also struggled because I'm not very aware of my body so I don't really feel the weather outside, so I can dress out of season easily by mistake because the cold or heat never bothered me anyway.

I ended up as a maximalist lol. But I still always wear a wig.

Culture & Society Why are some people (usually Boomers, but can also be Gen X’ers and Millennials) so insistent on people not doing nice things for them?

“I can pay for everyone at the table” “No thanks, I can pay for myself”

“I can help you put your groceries in your car” “No thanks, I can do it myself”

“I can cover the gas, since we’re traveling together” “Nope. I’ve got it”

Stuff like that. Why do some just simply not like when people do good things for them?
