2026 Model Still no route planning for 2026 Solterra?

Are we ever going to get the route planning update, or have I just missed it? I’m tired of having to plan my girlfriend’s long trips for her, and it’s really starting to feel like failed promise territory.

Solterra curious but not convinced

Okay y'all, I need help picking out my next car. I currently drive a 2013 Crosstrek that I bought new and want a vehicle with all safety bells and whistles. I'm torn between a used 2024 Outback and a 2027 Solterra. Both will have the features that I want that my Crosstrek doesn't have: adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitoring, and parking sensors.

The Solterra is a delight to drive but I'm worried about the EV technology becoming outdated quickly. I'm also worried about how quickly it depreciates so if I wanted an updated model in a few years, I'd be at a significant financial loss. It's the fun vehicle, but it's financially risky. I want the highest trim level (a panoramic moonroof is a must if I'm already splurging), so the price tag is not low. I can afford it, but I'm terribly frugal and don't like to spend much if I can avoid it.

The Outback has always been my favorite vehicle. I had one in 2007 and wrecked it in 2013. I wanted to get another outback in 2013 but didn't have the money. I've wanted one ever since but never felt like it was worth the money to get a new car until now. I went into the car search wishing a hybrid outback existed. Naturally I considered the Trailseeker but l am intimidated by it's size-- it feels massive like the newest Outback. The Outback I'm looking at is $20k less than the Solterra I want. It's the safe move but driving it doesn't fill me with delight like the Solterra does.

Do I play it safe or go with the fun car? I'm truly torn.

Solterra drivers, talk me into, or out of, a Solterra purchase.

Outback drivers- same thing. Talk me into or out of an Outback purchase.

I want to hear the good and bad about both vehicles. Things you wish you wish you'd known before you bought yours.

Thanks in advance for your help! 🩷

443 km on dashboard at 100% charge. Though when it reached 100%, it showed a message "30 minutes left until fully charged".

What I noticed after driving this car for a year, dashboard estimates are accurate.

2027 Model Dog bed recommendations needed

Post image
12 Upvotes

We ordered a 2027 Solterra and it won't be here until early December. Meanwhile, we'd like to get a dog bed for our 100+ lb Labrador for the rear cargo area. Having it in advance would be great and maybe save us some hair issues when we first get the car. (He sheds like crazy!) We're not quite sure what would work well in the Solterra. The photo give you an idea what were looking at.

Does anyone have any recommendations on a dog bed that fits well and is pretty sturdy? (As you might expect, I'm INUNDATED with ads now for dog beds since I've done some searching for them.) I don't know if it matters, but it's the Touring XT. Thanks for your help.

Buying a 2023 this week

I’m buying a 2023 Solterra this week and thought I’d check in with this community before the chodes in the finance office try to upsell me on all the warranties and upgrades.

Is there anything worth buying? Gadgets or things you wish you’d known about?

Charging ELI5 Charging

I’m going to be getting a 27 Solterra. I’ve been googling but having difficulties getting a clear answer. What apps do I need so I can charge my Solterra? The Subaru connect app? Tesla app? Anything else?

I really appreciate everyone’s insights.

Subaru Connect no longer compatible with my phone

This morning, Subaru Connect opened with a message saying a new version of the app was available and to update it now. Unfortunately, that's not possible because Google Play tells me the new version of the app isn't compatible with my older phone running Android 12 (aOnePlus 7 Pro). Anyone else have this problem? I don't see any way to send a message to the app developers to ask about a work-around.

2026 Model Is this fixable with a patch or plug?

Update:

Thanks for your input, everyone! I called the dealership and they were iffy about the placement of the puncture, even when I told them that the nail was more than 1/2 inch from the sidewall. I was informed that they needed to assess it but didn’t have availability for today or tomorrow. I was quoted $400 (!!!!) for a new tire in case they deemed it unrepairable.

I ended up going to a (highly rated) independent shop, and they didn’t even blink an eye. They performed an internal patch for $25, no questions asked and completed it under 30 minutes. Hopefully it holds for some time until all four tires need to be replaced. 🤞🏼

——

I have a 2026 Subaru Solterra with 9200 miles, and today I noticed a massive PSI drop (from 38 to 28 overnight) on one of my front tires. Upon inspection, I found a nail along the shoulder of the tire. Is this area patchable by Discount Tires or by the dealership, or will I be advised to get a new tire? If the latter, could I get away with purchasing one tire instead of four? I drive so little (I’ve had the car for 11 months and drive an average of 800 miles a month), so I’d be bummed if I had to replace all four tires before hitting 30-40k 😮‍💨

A little bit of Subaru Connect chaos this morning 22-Oct-2026

Subaru (ahem, Toyota) rolled out an update to the Subaru Connect plan today, and this resulted in our 2025 Solterra greeting us with an expired subscription message. Briefly, all current Subaru Connect bundle customers have been transferred from a $25/mo plan to a $15/mo "Premium" plans, but apparently the infotainment head updates didn't transition smoothly. Toyota services reps were very helpful over the phone, but suggested it may take up to 24 hours for the necessary vehicle updates to occur. Meanwhile, there are no mapping or subscription services available (including voice commands) until this happens. Customers are getting one month extra service for free for the inconvenience. (We apparently got two months.)

26 Solterra vs 26 Outback service loaner

My Solterra is in long term service waiting Part number G9082-42222, Cable Sub-Assembly, D - and I was given an outback limited. First impression: the exterior reminds me of the car Homer Simpson designed way back when the show was great.

The main takeaway was the infotainment screen and (especially) the screen in front of the driver is SO MUCH BETTER DESIGNED than our weird HUD-like display cluttered with icons and a clunky side menu from an old Prius. It's larger, features an edge to edge map, speedo - and it's visible thru the opening of the round steering wheel. Imagine that!

Also, the interior is HUGE compared to the solterra. Ive heard the Trailseeker is close in size - has anyone been in both a TS and a 26 Outback?

Climate Settings in App

Does anyone know if there is a way to set fan speed for preset climate settings? I have it set on a certain time to come on and the set temperature but I am unsure how to set the fan speed. Is there a way to do it?

2025 Model Solterra would not start

Update: My son decided to listen to his phone through the car, why I do not know, and ran down the 12 volt.

My Husband was out with the car, it was charged up to 126 miles. He got in, car would not start, stating insufficient battery.

He thinks it’s his key fob.

This ever happen to anyone else?

2026 Model AGM 12v upgrade seems to be great!

I never had the same level of battery problems other had before the 12v fix. But I did have a battery that would drop to 12.2-12.3 volts after sitting for a few hours. I decided to upgrade to a higher capacity group 47 AGM just for peace of mind, as winter is coming and I really just don’t want to deal with using the battery jump pack (which I do have).

After the initial overnight charge on my noco charger, it seems to be sitting at 12.9v, which is amazing!

in the photo, you can see the blip in the middle when I disconnected it from the noco wall charger. I went with a 60AH AGM duralast platinum elite. Probably overkill but i feel a lot better now.

2026 Model Trip to Sequoia and Kings canyon

We have a 2026 Solterra, live in San Diego, want to go to Sequoia and Kings Canyon national parks. We are planning on staying in three rivers. Question is how doable is it? And has anyone pulled it off? I know there is a hotel and restaurant in the rivers with level 2 chargers so if I can get one of those overnight we will be good at least to get into sequoia itself no problem but driving up and around Kings canyon worries me.

2026 Solterra will be my last Subaru

I leased a Solterra this spring and put 8000km on the odometer before having a "charging system malfunction". I brought the vehicle to my dealer on Aug 3 where they could not find anything wrong with the car, and allegedly cleared the code. When I picked up the vehicle (after service desk hours), the error message was still on the dash. I brought the vehicle back on Aug 10 and it has been with the dealer ever since.

The dealer has now diagnosed that part G908242221 (Cable Sub Assembly DC B) needs to be replaced -- but it has been on back order with the expected delivery date keeps being pushed back whenever I ask Subaru Canada for updates (Latest delivery date is mid-December). They have provided me a rental car from Enterprise and have agreed to reimburse me for gas, but I am left driving a car I don't want (and of significant lesser value/comfort) while paying for my vehicle that they cannot seem to fix. Lemon law in Quebec, Canada seems to be a dead-end as they are providing a loaner vehicle.

I have happily owned three previous Subarus, and I am aware that this is not technically a Subaru product, but this whole situation has left a really poor taste in my mouth. At this point, when my lease is up, I will not be considering another Subaru.

TL;DR: My Solterra is broken, Subaru Canada doesn't have the part and sucks at communicating. I don't want this car anymore.

2023 Model Goodbye to my 23' Solterra for the next few months

I'm going to be rambling here since I'm bored and I can't go to sleep yet

so I picked up a 113k km CPO certified 2023 Tech package back in April at the local Subaru dealership for a steal, along with an extended 3-year /36,000 km warranty on car/tires/rims

I did get a the EV malfunction message pop up twice (once in August and another on Thanksgiving) but I assumed that was because of my lead acid battery, which isn't covered under this warranty. But it wasn't too big of a problem, I'd turn off the car, plug in a jump starter that I keep with me for a few seconds and then I turn it back on and the errors would disappear. I did plan to buy a Costco AGM battery last week, which I thought would resolve the issues.

I did complain about the car leaking battery coolant twice previously to the dealer and they assured me it was the system burping itself since they did a complete fluid drain during the CPO process so they topped it up twice and they gave it back to me.

Last Thanksgiving I popped a tire because I ran over a nail so I decided to tow and drop the car off at the dealer, to use the tire warranty and on key envelope I just listed down a number of the issues I've noticed:

-Battery coolant going down again

- I did notice a very minor minor vibration at highway speeds, but I thought that was due to the tires being misbalanced again (dealership didn't properly balance the tires the first time)

The day after, the service advisor called me up and they said there's been an internal leak which surprised me because well "why didn't you didn't check this the first two times I complained" and I didn't notice any leaks in my driveway. I'm thinking they messed up the the battery coolant flush during the CPO process.

So the dealer's pushing me to pay the damn warranty deductible but I'm pushing back saying that "I brought this up during the three month CPO warranty period twice and the dealership didn't fix it then. So this is on you guys"

And along with that I got a call the next day because they're saying that the front motor is failing which was surprising but would explain the unoccasional minor vibration and minor noise showing up at highway speeds.

They're saying they're going to have to bring a motor in from Japan and reading online, the forums and even here in Reddit it looks like it might take a few months for it to come by.

In the meantime I'm saddled with a gas car which sucks because this is a pretty bad time to pay gas prices lol, but hey maybe the EV malfunction error was probably not because of the lead acid battery? I bought one of those Bluetooth 12 volt battery monitors from AliExpress for 12 bucks so I can monitor it.

And I've learned my lesson. I just bought a quabity OBD2 Bluetooth adapter, So I can use that to diagnose messages instead of just making assumptions

Did anyone else go through this process here in Canada with the front motor failing at least?

2023 Model Steering Wheel Covers

Hey all, I recently bought a used 2023 model. Loving the car so far, but wanting to get a steering wheel cover. Since the steering wheel is smaller than a typical steering wheel, I am having trouble finding one that will work. Anyone have a steering wheel cover that they like and can make a recommendation?

2026 Model Car won't precondition

Hello all, just wondering if I'm doing something wrong. It used to work all the time and now it just won't do it. I'm wondering if I'm just not in the right criteria or what's going on. It's 70° outside, I tried to turn on precondition twice on my way to the charger after the car was sitting all night. Now I'm sitting here annoyed charging at 35 kwh.

I recently got my car back from the dealer for it telling me the battery was low during fast charging and they mentioned that they changed a setting and maybe they turned off pre conditioning? They didn't actually find the issue either.

Not having a great experience with Subaru so far, I doubt I will upgrade to a new one in a few years.
