MOD POST SmallYTChannel FAQ

r/SmallYTChannel FAQ

Why can’t I Post?

If you try to post a video on our subreddit and it isn't accepted, try to look at the comment on the post. most of the time it will tell you the reason why your video was removed.

However, the following reasons are the most common reasons for posts not being accepted

  1. You haven't given feedback to someone else yet (this is how you earn lambda)
  2. You used the wrong flair
  3. Your account is less than three days old

GETTING LAMBDA

What is λ (lambda) and how does it work?

λ is a currency used in r/SmallYTChannel. Simplified it is a feedback for feedback system. The most recent videos can be found in the community highlights. For every video you give feedback to, the OP (if satisfied with the feedback) will give you a lambda using the !givelambda command. Only the OP can give lambda. LAMBDA IS ONLY SPENT WHEN POSTING, giving lambda to a commenter does not spend it. You can only get lambda from feedback posts. Upon receiving credit for your feedback you can post your own video.

What would be considered good feedback?

In most cases, the decision is up to the OP. If you post a video you do NOT need to !givelambda if someone drops generic, low-effort feedback. (ex. “Nice video I enjoyed it you earned a sub). You can ask them for specifics, reply to their comment, cross-question etc. You don't need to agree with the feedback, but it needs to have effort put into it. Same with any feedback you give. As a plus, mods will reward bonus lambda to high-quality feedback they come across.

Feedback comments also must be greater than 255 characters. This is to encourage detailed feedback and target spam. In situations where it wouldn't make sense to give such a lengthy response, mods can still give out lambda if you send in a modmail, see the below question for more detail.

If you are struggling with what feedback to give the mod team recommends using some or all of these questions.

  • Would you click on the video? Why?
  • Did you stay past the intro? Why?
  • When would you leave the video? Why?

What should I do if I get no lambda for my advice, but feel I deserve it?

In cases where you disagree with the OP's decision, you can send a modmail asking for lambda. It is up to the individual mod that replies to you to decide if your feedback is worth giving lambda. As a general rule of thumb so long as your feedback is ACTIONABLE (meaning you are suggesting a specific change to the video) you will be given lambda by the mods.

What if the OP doesn’t respond?

If it has been two days and the OP still hasn’t responded, send in a modmail, see the above question for more details.

The OP typed the command but it didn’t work?

This is going to be for one of two reasons, the bot is currently down, or the OP forgot the command but then edited the comment to add it. If the bot is currently down, you will just have to wait. The bot is run on volunteers so it will go down from time to time. If the OP edited the comment, since the bot only checks the initial comment, you can just ask the OP to retype the command or send in a modmail, See the above question for more details.

FLAIRS

What do the different post-flairs mean?

  • Discussion - does not cost lambda

For discussion, a general rule of thumb is that if you need to link to your channel for the discussion to make sense you are not looking to start a discussion you are looking for feedback.

Discussion posts must be for discussion and have a main question or topic. Posts that don't start a discussion will be removed.

Discussion posts can't drive traffic to your channel. Posts such as 'I just reached 100 subs', or 'I'm nearly at 500 subs' are considered self-promotion and will be removed. Unless relevant to the discussion sub counts should not be mentioned. Posts that encourage other rule breaks are not allowed. For example, suggesting people leave their links in the comments isn't allowed, since it encourages free self-promotion.

  • Feedback - costs 1 lambda

Upon getting three lambdas you can share either one video or a channel link for a channel review.

A channel review would consist of feedback on the channel itself (branding and thumbnails) and nonspecific overview feedback on content (editing style, video genre, reused intro animations, stuff that applies to multiple videos as a whole). If you want to ask for more specific feedback on multiple videos, that has to be done through multiple feedback posts, should someone choose to give you specific feedback of their own free will that is of course allowed, but you can not ask for it in the post.

You can not ask for any engagement in the title or comments of the Reddit post (telling people to like or sub etc.), We've restricted the use of the word "lambda" in post titles due to increasing cases of people implying free or "easy" lambda. If you use alternate phrasing to bypass this such as ‘rewarding feedback’, the mods are at liberty to delete your post. The "I just reached 100 subs" rule applies here too.

  • Gaming, Vlog, Educational, Video Essay, etc.- costs 1 lambda

Are just sub-feedback flairs. Most people tend to only give feedback within their niche, if you have experience editing gaming videos but no experience editing video essays or vlogs, you can search for gaming feedback exclusively so it is easier to give feedback in a genre you actually know something about.

  • Collab - does not cost lambda

A collab post can drive minimal traffic to your channel, minor details or portfolio links on a known site are allowed. If you are asking to help someone or take part in any part of the video-making process it is a collaboration. Even if it's a paid, ex. editing or thumbnail services.

  • Meta - does not cost lambda

Meta is a flair exclusively meant to discuss the subreddit itself, any suggestions as to what to ban/allow, and what changes should be made, it is a flair for the community to openly discuss any issues or suggestions they may have for the subreddit.

POSTING

I messed up my post, What do I do?

If you accidentally posted as a 'text' instead of a 'link', thus making your thumbnail not show up on Reddit. You can send in a mod mail asking for a refund, so long as feedback hasn't already been given to the video you will get a refund and be allowed to repost.

Can I post the same video more than once?

For lambda farming reasons there does have to be at least a two-day gap between you posting the same video, so people can't farm lambda by saying the same feedback twice. But so long as you have the lambda for it, yes you can post what you want with your lambda so long as the other rules are followed.

Can I post someone else's content?

If you have the lambda for it, yes. It is important to note that if the user whose content you are posting has previously been banned on the subreddit, you will be assisting in ban evasion. In this case, the post will be removed and further consequences are likely.

No one gave me feedback, What do I do?

If it has been two days and your feedback post still does not have any feedback, send in a mod mail asking for a refund, You can choose to repost the video or post a different one.

RULES

What is a low-quality post?

The list of what is considered low quality includes but is not limited to

  • Milestone posts - 'I just reached 100 subs/ 10k views/ etc' - these are considered self-promotion
  • Analytic Checks - 'Is _______ subs/views in _______ time period normal' - if you want to post analytics the discord has a channel for it
  • AI Tools - 'Here is an AI tool I use' - most times just an ad in disguise
  • Shorts Views - 'Why are my shorts views inconsistent' - too many of these types of posts, shorts are inconsistent by nature

In addition, if your post looks to much like a bot/ai mods can, at their own liberty, take it down for low quality.

What counts as abuse of the bot?

The list of what is considered abuse of the bot includes but is not limited to

  • Creating or using another account to give yourself lambda
  • Editing your flair to give the impression of having more lambda than you have
  • Asking around for lambda and/or upvotes
  • Copy-pasting 'advice' to farm lambda
  • Filling a comment with fluff to bypass the character requirement

What count as bypassing the link restriction?

  • Posting a link to your channel or video in comments (asked for or not)
  • Posting the name of your channel in your post or in comments (asked for or not)
  • Saying where you can find your link (asked for or not)

MISCELLANEOUS

How do I join the discord?

The discord invite link can be found under ‘Important Links” in the 'about' section of the subreddit.

What is the discord for?

The discord is better suited for more casual discussions. It is also an easier place for you to get quick feedback. Stuff like very specific edits, thumbnails, or what your analytics mean.

What is the monthly leaderboard for?

The monthly leaderboard is a way for users to have a friendly competition over who gives more feedback.

How do I see the all-time leaderboard?

You can find the all-time leaderboard on the bot's profile, u/SmallYTChannelBot , just look at the most recent post.

What is my user flair for?

Your user flair is the only place you can put your channel name or handle in. Bypassing the link restriction by telling people to look at your user flair will result in removal. The user flair is there mainly for people who have a different Reddit name than a channel name, if someone checks out your channel of their own free will, that is of course allowed.

Please do not put full URLs in your user flair.

How do I add my handle to my user flair?

You add your handle to your user flair using the user flair preview and the pencil edit icon, in the 'about community' section on desktop. Or by clicking the three dots next to your icon while on mobile and then selecting 'change user flair'.

If you are using old Reddit there will be an edit button next to your name under the subreddit info bar.

If you have any questions you would like added to the FAQ feel free to ask them below

Discussion Upload Times

Does anyone have any general advice about decent times to upload? I don't have enough average viewers on my channel yet for YouTube to display this information for me. I've been testing uploading shorts at or around 11 AM for the past few days, and I just don't know when to post long form videos at all atp.

Collab Looking for channels to edit for

Hey everyone, it's been quite some time since the last time I posted!

i want to give a bit of context on my situation and why I'm looking to edit for people.

I have been living always pretty decently in my life, so I could always take care of myself. A few month ago I got a little brother I was and still am really happy to have him in my life, i love taking care of him and helping my parents out, in the mean time I've been trying to find work because it is really hard to find people willing to get young adult to work for them. where we live, they ask for a lot of work experience in many places, making it so you don't get to much work experience when you eventually turn 18.

In September my sister left home to do her studies oversea, it costed a lot of money for my parents, and since they have my little brother to take care of, they aren't working yet.

So for a few months we've been living on economies and right now I'm the only one still having money to help and care for them. I want to help them but I don't want to do a GoFundMe (it's not available where I'm from anyways)for it, as I wouldn't find it fair for people to give me some money freely, so I want to get that money fair and square using my skills

I won't probably ask for too much money from people, if anyone is interested check my profil for my Yt channel and Discord in

Discussion Does the Algorithm have a cooldown for uploads in a 24 Hour pocket?

My question in better detail is how many hours should you wait before posting another short, and therefor how many shorts can you post in 24 hours, where the algorithm will still accept and push them? To my knowledge, the algorithm takes a short, pushes it to about 1k people, then pushes it further if that 1k watched, liked, and even commented on that short. However if you posts 2 shorts, or even videos, at once the algorithm will tank one and push the other or tank both even. I have never posted more than one short in a day for this reason. I bring up this question because making shorts for me is easy, so easy that I want to boost the statistics my shorts bring it by posting multiple. However I don't want to post them so close to each other that both tank or one tanks. So does anyone from their own experience know what that cooldown of time before posting another ideally is? And I don't mean you post multiple shorts in one day and they all only get 1-5k views. I mean you post multiple shorts in a day and they all get 10k+ views. I am in the gaming niche if that helps.

Discussion Suggest Some Good Video editor for pc for basic editing, thank you in advance

I want to be consistent on my YouTube channel. My videos sometimes get decent views despite my channel being dead for a while, but most of my recorded gameplay sits unedited in Drive because I can't find a good editor.

I need an editor with multiple keyframe animations, since I use them constantly. VSDC's free version didn't work for me, and I couldn't find a reliable crack.

My PC has a Core 2 Duo E8500, 8GB RAM, and no dedicated GPU. I used to edit on my dad's S22, but he creates content too, and his phone overheats and has a green line, so I don't want phone editor recommendations as I dont want to worsen his situation, (I wish I can gift him a new one once I get placed somewhere this summer maybe)

Also, don't recommend Filmora.

Funny yo mention btw, My gameplay videos, especially MGS, get around 100 views at best, while my dad gets 10 or maybe 100 times more than that.

Collab Getting on that YOUTUBE GROUP GRIND

hey everyone! im ilewminati (m16) and im starting up a youtube channel, and where else would i go but REDDIT because thats where all the COOL PEOPLE RESIDE

im looking for a few people to collab with and hopefully start a group. i've spent ages scouring the internet for small content creators, but sifting through youtube comments, fyp recommendations and channels sorted by most popular isnt exactly the most efficient way of finding people, so i figured i'd TRY my luck here

im looking for more personality-driven content like FUNNY MOMENTS rather than pure gameplay stuff. like old vanossgaming vibes, early youtube esque junk, and a bunch of dudes getting together to do stupid shit because its fun. i wanna bring back that feeling of people genuinely having a good time instead of everything feeling super calculated.

the dream is to eventually have a consistent group of people who can regularly hop on games, record some stupid shit, bounce ideas off each other and slowly build something together. not necessarily some super organised content creation empire, just a group of people who get along, make each other laugh and happen to turn that into videos. if something comes out of it and we end up building a proper audience together, AWESOME! if not, at least we made some cool shit and had fun doing it.

game-wise, im into GMOD (of course), indie horror games, dead by daylight, PEAK, REPO, skate, chained together, nazi zombies (classic. free game on steam, check it out) and honestly pretty much anything co-op and shitpost esque im always down to try new games too, so dont feel like you need to play everything listed here to be a good fit.

im fairly well versed in editing, not at an isaacwhy level or anything, but im willing to put a lot of time and effort into making something good. i enjoy the creative side of youtube just as much as the actual gameplay, EVEN IF thats coming up with dumb video ideas, editing something into a complete nightmare (before christmas) or figuring out how to turn a completely uneventful recording into something atleast a tiny bit entertaining.

i want to build something out of this, improve together, uplift everyone involved and make videos we're genuinely proud of. ideally we'd all be able to contribute in our own ways, share ideas, give each other feedback and help each other grow instead of treating everyone else's success like a competition. i think having different personalities, senses of humour and creative approaches is what makes a group interesting in the first place.

im not looking for clones of myself, either. it'd be boring as shit if everyone had the exact same humour, interests and personality. i wanna meet people who bring their own thing to the table, whether thats being the loudest dude in the call, having the most stupid sense of humour imaginable, even if you genuinely lack basic motor functions and suck at every game, or just being the relatively normal person surrounded by absolute FOOLS, SIMPLETONS, CHARLETONS, DUMMIES, STOOGES

a COUPLE things though:

  • im looking for people who are reasonably active (not just on youtube but online as a whole) and actually wanna make stuff together. obviously everyone's got their own lives and responsibilities, so nobody needs to be available 24/7, but it'd be nice to have people who are willing to consistently hop on games and make things happen rather than disappearing into classified flight logs after one recording session.
  • you dont need to be some massive creator or an editing genius. personality and chemistry matter WAAAAAAAY more having a channel is cool, but if you're just starting out or haven't really uploaded much, dont let that stop you from reaching out AT ALL.
  • you dont need to be good at games. i'd much rather play with someone who's hilarious to be around than someone who takes every game like it depends on their life. if you're absolutely terrible at a game but make the experience ten times funnier, you're doing PERFECT.
  • im hoping to find people who actually enjoy the creative process. you DO NOT need to have every recording session turn into a video, and not every idea is gonna be a masterpiece, but it'd be nice to have people who are excited to experiment, try dumb ideas and occasionally put some effort into making something cool.
  • communication is important. if you cant make a recording session, need a break or just arent feeling it that day, thats completely cool! i'd just rather people communicate than leave everyone guessing. nobody should feel obligated to sacrifice their entire social life for a youtube channel.
  • this is a HOBBY, not a business transaction. im here to make friends along the way, not hire coworkers and have EVERY SINGLE interaction turn into some wack strategy meeting. obviously i want the videos to be GOOD and i'd be okay for the channel to grow, but that doesnt mean we need to suck every last drop of fun out of it.

im also not expecting everyone to instantaneously become best friends or for us to magically have perfect chemistry on day one. getting a group together takes time, and sometimes you just dont click with certain people, which is completely normal. the idea is to meet people, play some games, see how everyone gets along and go from there. no pressure to force anything that isnt working.

i'd rather start small with a few people who genuinely get along than throw twenty random people into a discord server and hope for the best. quality over quantity and ALL THAT JAZZ

SO, WHO AM I ACTUALLY LOOKING FOR?

if you're someone who enjoys making people laugh, likes the idea of being part of a recurring group, has a bunch of stupid video ideas floating around in your head, or just wants some people to play games and possibly make content with, feel free to reach out! you dont have to fit some super specific archetype or have it all planned out. if the idea sounds fun to you, thats reason enough to give it a shot.

a few things that'd be nice to know about you:

  • how old are you? im 16, so preferably people around my age.
  • what games do you play, and what would you be interested in recording?
  • do you already make content? if so, feel free to link your channel!
  • what kind of content do you enjoy making or watching? any particular creators who inspire you?
  • what's your sense of humour like? (this is probably the most important question dude)
  • what's your availability like? no need for a strict schedule, just an idea of when you're usually around.

if this sounds like your kinda thing, hit me up on discord: [i56juhytbgf]

tell me a bit about yourself, what games you play and what kinda content you enjoy making/watching. dont just send me "yo" and expect me to magically figure out your entire personality

im happy to chat, play a few games and see how things go before committing to anything. no auditions, no weird tryouts, no application forms that look like you're applying for anything. just people meeting people and seeing if they get along.

P.S this doesnt have a deadline :) SO IF YOURE SEEING THIS LIKE 2 MONTHS LATER ITS STILL ON THE TABLE.

anyway thats about it. thanks for reading my unnecessarily long reddit post and i hope to meet some cool people

P.P.S i cannot believe i genuinely wrote something this long on fucking reddit

Discussion How to make YouTube videos???

I want to start making youtube videos just to see how far I could go with it however I soon discovered I’m really not that good at making commentary, now I don’t know if it’s me personally or it’s the game but trying to say stuff to make the video not boring is actually pretty hard. I know what I want to base the channel around I’ve got a solid name that no one else is using I have a good range of high quality niche ish games but I just don’t know how to make good commentary and it probably doesn’t help being a single person with no one else to throw banter with and have these comedic moment with.

I really don’t know how to do it so if someone who has experienced the same as what I am now please help me out thank you

Discussion How to Get Back Channel That Got Falsely Banned for Impersonating my Main Channel?

I’m so confused right now

I have a main channel and I make 100% original content and it’s monetized and in good terms

I even made the logos and brands myself. My main channel has way more subscribers

I also had a 2nd channel that was for vlogs with a few thousand subscribers

I decided to just change my 2nd channel to a shorts channel and just repost my main channel videos as shorts on it. Used similar name and branding as my main with the word shorts added

A few minutes later my 2nd channel got terminated for impersonation

I appealed and that was rejected automatically and my 2nd channel is banned for impersonating my main channel

And the rejection email says this Please be aware that you are prohibited from accessing, possessing or creating any other YouTube accounts.

So seems I will eventually lose my main channel as well

Collab Looking for someone to form a Minecraft content duo with!

I'm looking for someone who wants to make Minecraft content together consistently and hopefully build something big over time.

The idea is to make entertaining videos together, whether that's Minecraft challenges, funny moments, survival worlds, or other ideas we come up with.

What I'm looking for:

Someone who's genuinely interested in making content, not just playing casually.

Someone who's active and willing to record regularly.

Someone who's comfortable joking around and being themselves on camera/mic.

Someone who wants to improve, grow, and take content creation seriously.

Ideally, someone around my age (19m) with a similar sense of humour.

You don't need to be a big creator or have loads of subscribers. I'd rather find someone who's a good fit and is genuinely committed.

If you're interested, comment or DM me on discord with your age, timezone, what kind of content you want to make, and a little bit about yourself!

LOOKING FOR A CREATIVE PARTNER — YOUTUBE AI VIDEO SERIES
I’m looking for an experienced AI video producer who wants to build an original YouTube series with me on a revenue-sharing basis.
I have original concepts, episode ideas and scripts ready to develop. My first project is Before You Say I Do, a relationship and marriage advice series designed to deliver powerful, emotional, practical messages through realistic AI characters and storytelling.
I’m looking for a partner who can handle the complete production process, including character creation, AI-generated scenes, voices, editing, music, subtitles and finished videos ready for YouTube.
I cannot offer an upfront production fee, so I’m looking for someone who is willing to share the financial risk in return for an agreed percentage of the revenue generated by the videos.
I’m open to discussing a fair revenue split, including a substantial share for the production partner who handles the work.
I want to start with a small pilot, assess the quality and audience response, and build a long-term partnership if the project shows promise.
I can contribute the ideas, scripts, creative direction and ongoing episode concepts. I’m looking for someone who brings professional production skills, experience and a genuine interest in building something together.
Please contact me with examples of your work, your proposed revenue-sharing arrangement and how you would approach the first episode.
No upfront payment is available. The partnership must be based on an agreed share of actual revenue, with clear terms in writing.

Discussion Vidiq/SEO tools

Have any of you tried using VIDIQ for your YouTube and tiktok videos? I've been trying to use it for a while but I've started to realize that they're more geared towards face cam streamers and people who produce regular long form content. As I'm a vtuber who cuts and edits my own streams into long form and short form content, a lot of their tools don't seem geared towards me.

On a recent video it scored my thumbnail super low because it didn't have a "Clear and recognizable human face" in it. Meaning it was telling me that it was a poor thumbnail because I used my vtuber model in it instead of some random dude's face.

It also constantly tries to generate horrendous AI thumbnails, titles, and descriptions. Nine times out of ten they're not even related to the content I make or my niche.

Discussion This might not be a huge deal to everyone but it is to me

Ok, about 9 days ago I posted about making the best decision ever starting a gaming channel with my kids. Three generations (GenX , GenZ, and GenAlpha) playing games we love together and just having a blast being our nerdy goofy selves. We didn’t get into this to be the next big thing and I don’t think we will any time soon, but something big happened and it affected my Gen Alpha daughter in a pretty big way.
We started back in March, with a slight hiccup in April. Then back on track in May. Been consistent since with short posting and even live streaming. I’ve never been happier getting this time with them and them wanting me on the journey.
Today one of our shorts starting performing pretty well. We normally sit at about 1-1.5k views before our shorts kinda die off. Well our short we posted Thursday suddenly out of nowhere started to take off a little. It plateaued at 1.5k by Friday morning. The highest view count we have ever gotten was 2.6k. By Friday evening it hit 2k. I know to many of you that may seem like small potatoes but to us it was huge. That was 2000 people getting to share in our ridiculous shenanigans spreading a little joy instead of misery. The short from Thursday is now sitting at 5.3k views with pretty good AVP (98%) and Stayed to watch (60%). It’s still climbing. I showed the kids just so they could see and to make sure I wasn’t going crazy. This is where my daughter lost it..in a good way.
She cried. Not just a light omg that’s amazing cry but a legit cry of pure happiness and excitement and laughter that wouldn’t stop lol. Not for the reason you think. When I calmed her down she explained, “I’m happy because that’s 5000 people who have seen our content and a huge chunk felt we were worth it to stop and watch in a sea of creators”. Let that sink in. She wasn’t thinking we are gonna be famous. She wasn’t thinking omg we are the next Mr beast. She went right to realizing people legitimately enjoyed the content enough that they clicked and watched. She then said “it’s more people that get to see something happy instead of sad”. My heart nearly exploded in that moment. This has been an amazing journey so far and worth it beyond words. But to see my daughter care more about making complete strangers forget the ugly of the world even just 30 seconds at a time made me the happiest and proudest parent in the world. Best decision ever x10000000!!!

Collab Looking for some youtubers or streamers!

Hello r/SmallYTChannel!

Hope you're all doing well and that your channels are growing.

I'm currently looking for a few small YouTubers and streamers who enjoy playing indie horror games and would be interested in covering a psychological horror title. If you enjoy atmospheric, story-driven horror and are looking for something new to feature on your channel, I'd love to hear from you.

If you're interested, feel free to send me a DM, and I'll share the details.

Thanks, and have a great day!

Discussion YouTube Destroyed my channel

The algorithm is extremely flawed. It ruined up my channel and now I can't get any views whatsoever even after they supposedly stop letting reuploaded videos get views. They still get far more views than mine. Even the copyrighted videos get more. There must be something wrong with the algorithm they need to fix bruh

Discussion Will using free stock footage get my documentary channel rejected for "Reused Content"? Any tips?

Hello Friends,

I run a documentary channel (not monetized yet). To avoid "Reused Content," I've been using animations as B-roll, but lately, they feel boring and look like AI slop. I want to switch to free stock footage (Pexels, Pixabay) to improve quality, but I’m terrified of the reused content filter. I can't afford paid subscriptions right now.

Any tips for documentary channels using free stock?
