Coupa is what happens when leadership outsources judgment

I’ve used SAP. I’ve used Ariba. Coupa is the only tool that made SAP GUI feel premium.

Every release smells like follow-the-sun handoffs and a ticket mill: half-built features, 2012 UI, support closing tickets with “working as designed,” and integration docs written by someone who’s never seen an ERP. Leadership gutted the engineering culture, chased the cheapest offshore model, and failed upward. The product reflects incompetence from top to bottom.

I hate Coupa. Do not use it. If your CFO suggests it, update your resume. If a consultant recommends it, fire the consultant. If someone in r/sap says “Coupa integration,” run - don’t walk.

Has anyone used a single custom Material Type ("MAT") for all materials in SAP S/4HANA Public Cloud? What were the upgrade and scope item impacts?

In S/4HANA Public Cloud, maintaining a Clean Core and staying aligned with SAP Best Practice scope items is critical. However, during Fit-to-Standard workshops, teams sometimes debate whether to introduce a single custom material type ZMAT (or a broad "MAT" umbrella) to represent all material categories—raws, finished goods, trading goods, and services—rather than using standard types (ROH, FERT, HAWA, SERV, etc.).

For those who have evaluated or implemented this approach in S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition:

  1. Scope Item Breakage: How did consolidating into a single material type affect standard Best Practice scope items (e.g., BD9, J45, Sell from Stock) that depend on standard material types for Account Determination, MRP behavior, and Item Category determination?
  2. Upgrade & Extensibility Friction: Did using a custom "MAT" type create issues during mandatory release upgrades, Fiori app validations, or Clean Core checks?
  3. Valuation & Logistics Limits: How did you handle opposing requirements for quantity/value-based inventory tracking across raw materials versus services or non-stock items?
  4. Real-World Experience: Did this model prove sustainable long-term, or did it generate technical debt that eventually forced a return to standard SAP material types?

Looking forward to hearing your insights and lessons learned!

Before a UAT cycle, who actually gets the QA system ready: Basis, the project, or whoever gets blocked first?

• Upvotes

We’re preparing order-to-cash UAT on an ECC system, and most of the blockers so far aren’t the process: closed posting periods (OB52), number range intervals that stop years ago, no test users with the right roles, interfaces and output still pointing somewhere real after the last refresh.

My guess is that Basis does the refresh and post-copy steps, finance opens periods when someone complains, and the rest lands on the test manager.

How does it work where you are? And is there a checklist someone owns, or is it rebuilt every cycle?

What’s next after SAP MM Academy?

Hello all,

I was wondering what you would recommend as the next steps in my learning journey. I recently completed an SAP MM academy and am looking to transition into a consultant role.

How can I keep practicing and build my hands on experience? Are there any platforms with practical exercises that you recommend?

Incorrect vendor invoice already paid

Incorrect pricing in PO lead to an incorrect MIRO data entries and I'm consequence an incorrect payment. Let's say incorrect item unit price in inforecord lead to 5000€ total PO amount, then, the vendor sends invoice for 6000€, and the user instead of check with procurement how to solve this missmatch, used 1000€ from another PO against same vendor to complete the first PO total amount invoiceable...this invoice is paid now, and now we have 2 POs stuck with incorrect payments. Hows the correct procedure in this cases? IR is updated with correct pricing, PO pricing is updated too...Now how can we "revert" this already paid invoice in order to create now 2 separate correct invoices? One for each PO?
