The Shows She's still cold and unresponsive...

The results on the recent ship-wide poll on how strictly Rule 4 should be enforced are in.
Even adding the "Less Strict" and "No Change" votes together into a 'Not Stricter' joint category, just over a third of the community still want stricter posting rules. And looking at core contributer votes, it's a near 50/50 split between "No Change" and "More Strict".
Flat out banning crossposts, random references, and "Red Dwarf in the Wild" posts (where someone shares something that simply reminded them of Red Dwarf) seems a little harsh considering the split. But doing nothing at all would also mean ignoring a large proportion of the community... so...
The announcement is still going on.
INTRODUCING SMEGPOST SUNDAY!!
All low-effort "look at this random item / person / haircut / foodstuff / news article / post nothing really to do with Red Dwarf but here is a title quoting/referencing the show so ehhhhh nudge nudge ehhhhhhh, you see what I am thinking ehhhhhhhhhhhh?" posts must now be kept to Sunday, and be given the Smegpost Sunday flair.
To start with we're hoping we can keep the rule on relevancy pretty loose on Sundays as a bit of compromise and see how that goes, so some smeg that would have been removed previously may now stay up on Sundays, but lots of smeg that would have stayed up the rest week will now be removed... so pros and cons, highs and lows, demons and angels.... if the community response is still that posts are just a little too smeggy even on Sundays we can see about raising the bar again later down the line.
Anyone posting smeg on non-Sundays or misusing the Smegpost Sunday flair will get one reminder, which if ignored, will mean they aren't able to post again. Seem fair?
Oh and we'll turn off crossposts for a bit and see how that goes.

On behalf of everyone here at the r/RedDwarf subreddit, here is a massive THANK YOU to u/DougNaylorOfficial for his mammoth AMA Event on our little corner of the internet here a few days ago! And also, thank you to every single member of this community for being in this sub and making it the awesome place that it is, and double-thanks if you joined in on the AMA itself! Doug responded to over 160 questions and comments over the course of TWO DAYS, which is absolutely legendary. What a guy!
The AMA, at the time of writing, has nearly 600 comments and over 175,000 views, making it by far the post with the most engagement the sub has ever seen, and the highest rated Text Only post we have ever had (yeah that is a real category. What do you mean that isn't a real category? Look it's not my fault everyone around here likes memes so smegging much is it??)
Anyway, I suspect that the answers in this AMA will be combed over, picked apart, and referred back to for the next four decades of Red Dwarf Fandom. We have already had at least one article written using new info gleaned from the AMA making a full circle back to being posted on this sub-reddit again.
While I highly recommend people read through the whole AMA post to see each and every one of Doug's insightful answers, thoughtful comments, witty jokes, and heartfelt responses, I appreciate that 600 comments is a lot of reading, and I would hate for some things to go overlooked. So, I thought I'd do my own, personal, subjective, really-not-particularly-wanted, key takeaways- in the form of a Top Five Ten Twenty Doug Answers List! These are just the responses specifically relating to Red Dwarf that I personally found to be the most revealing new info on hot topics, the most insightful and interesting, or just the most amusing and funny. Enjoy.

Iāve been recycling the early series on and off for decades. Didnāt even realise they made new ones till a few yrs back when I saw some of season 10 on sbs. Picked these up from jbās over a year ago but couldnāt bring myself to watch them. Idk, it feels like once Iāve watched them itās all over.

Just like Arnold J Rimmer BSc SSc this suffered a drive plate/moderator related death a couple of days ago. Resulting in me getting a stern talking to from the captain/moderators, but hopefully it'll live on today. (I'm blaming the Reddit app not showing the rules like the webpage does/my workmate going into stasis.)

I went to the model railway exhibition at the British Motor Museum today.
The absolute highlight was this Red Dwarf themed display, with so many little details and references.

TIL from Wikipedia - True (Spandau Ballet song) is a song by the English new wave band Spandau Ballet, released in April 1983 as the title track and third single from their third studio album. It was written by the band's lead guitarist and principal songwriter Gary Kemp to express his feelings for Altered Images lead singer Clare Grogan.

Bit of a thought experiment - with Doctor Who in between Doctors at the moment, if they regenerated into a character from Red Dwarf, which would be the best? Most entertaining, most Doctor-like, best repartee with Companions...
This isn't asking for the best actor (make a separate topic by all means), but the characters of Red Dwarf.

From a 1977 article on Sci-Fi...
"The majority of the sf writers most popular with radicals are by and large crypto-fascists to a man and woman!"...
"By the early fifties Astounding had turned by almost anyone's standard into a crypto-fascist deeply philistine magazine pretending to intellectualism and offering idealistic kids an 'alternative' that was, of course, no alternative at all."

Recently uploaded to the BBC Archive channel on YouTube is a clip from an old TV show called Techno. Here they're doing a feature on models, one of them being Red Dwarf's cargo bay (at around 5:06)

We're using a scifi D&D supplement called Neon Odyssey, and the story is they were working on a huge mining ship and emerge from stasis after 100 years to find the ship abandoned and infested with xenomorph-like monsters.
I want to include some quirky stuff on the ship. Anything from the show that would be great for a D&D game?

Apologies if asked before or I've missed something but I've picked up that at no point does Cat ever show any interest in Kochanski as a potential *ahem*... love interest, despite him talking about his libido constantly.
The only thing I could note would be Lister and Cat watching her laundry spin in Duct Soup (more of a gimmick that it's a woman's underwear and keeping Lister company) and referring to her as Officer Bud-babe but I thought this would be just Cat not really knowing how to say Kochanski and that he often refers to everyone as 'bud' and the babe bit being to signify she's female.
EDIT:... It might be Officer Butt-babe

It would never happen but I was thinking about the Back In the Red season and how its centered around the crew being back on the remade ship. I thought it was cool that the whole season had its own setting and theme, with each episode felt like it was flowing from one day to the next.
Being inspired by that I drafted up my own Red Dwarf miniseries season: The Boys from the Dwarf Get Trapped on a Giant Space Mall.
The setting: The boys come upon a gigantic self-sustaining space mall. With a parking deck large enough to park Red Dwarf. The mall is filled with everything youād typically see in an 80s-90s mall, in far futuristic fashion of course. It would be run by psychotic AI designed to manage all the shops, recreational spaces, and Security. There would be mutated life forms and crazed robots in the different sections of the mall. With human-like mutants and androids plotting a rebellion against their psychopathic robot overlords.
The plot: Red Dwarf gets parked in one of the many space mall parking decks. The boys venture out, hoping to find much needed supplies and loot. Then suddenly, they get locked in. When trying to break into the parking deck to get back to RD they are cut off and chased deeper into the space station by the Robot Mall Security, controlled by the insane AI mall security chief. Each episode would feature different forms of life that have survived in the different mall departments for millennia. Many whacky androids and mutants help or harm them on their journey. In the arcade section, they find humans that have had their minds trapped in a VR environment and help to free them, only after the cat and Lister get trapped themselves. In the perfume dept they find a giant blob thatās taken over most of the section evolved from the many chemicals found in futuristic makeups and perfumes. They would defeat it when it falls in love with Cat, and Cat falls in love with how good he smells after being embraced by the blob. The mutants theyāve rescued along the way lead them to the Mallās underbelly where many androids and mutants have been surviving hidden away from the Mallās constant surveillance. With new allies they push towards the security center for an ultimate showdown with the demented ancient AI.
It would of course end in a hilarious and action packed final episode that involves them defeating the crazed AI, and freeing the poor evolved mutants that had been under the rule of the Mallās AI for centuries. And of course the final shot is Red Dwarf pulling away last minute before the Mall explodes, much like the Death Star.
Anyway. I know itās unlikely that weād get more seasons of the show, at least anything with a huge production budget. And if I wrote this as a book Iād have to come up with a crew in a scenario much like Red Dwarf without getting sued. But I had a good time imagining it and maybe it can inspire others.

Your retro magazine which covers old hollywood, movies and cult TV. Pages 62 - 63 Red Dwarf and facts. Like Starbug mining ship was inspired by John Carpenters dark star. or Smeg was a way to get around the censorship and was borrowed by porridges naff.

back in 2012 had aspirations of being a recording engineer but couldn't find work (or wasn't good enough) so I did cover songs to have something to work with. I'm on guitar but the rest of the instruments are sound library samples plugins. I triple tracked the singer in unison and this is what I got.
