Miscellaneous The exact same middle-aged man has followed me around three different events at or near the Mississippi Valley Fairgrounds over the past year. Surely, I can't be the only woman he's doing this to? Description in post.

• Upvotes

First, an author's note: I have worked and attended events at the MVF grounds and in the surrounding neighborhood for over a decade. I'm very familiar with the area. I'm also not trying to spark fear or concern or question the safety of events at MVF. The events there are fun and there's always plenty of security.

Now, onto a description of the man: White, average height and weight, middle-aged. Attends events alone, has a thing for fedoras, and has a very distinctive way of following you around that's really obvious once you catch on to it. Like, the best way to describe it is that it feels like he's doing a shitty surveillance job on you... and only you.

He doesn't talk to anyone else. He just hangs out behind you at an angle, drinks a beer, and stares at you. Or, he walks a few people in front of you and looks over his shoulder to see if you're looking at him. He disappears if you walk toward security, only to reappear behind you five minutes later with a fresh beer. If you turn around to look at him, he looks away.

I used to work in behavioral health, so the optimist in me hopes that he's just weird/drunk/lonely/whatever. But I'm also not an idiot.

I'm mainly posting here because I'm hoping to find someone else who has had the same experience as me. Or maybe someone knows this clown and confirm whether he's just a local oddball, or if I need to be more worried. Either way, I can't be the only person he's following around like this. And yes, I do plan on taking it to security if this happens again.

Food Rock Island/Moline Rudy’s Tacos closing?

I know Rudy’s is about a million miles from authentic Mexican food, and it’s an easy place to make fun of. But it always seemed to have a pretty loyal following, especially among older Quad Cities residents.

Now I’m hearing that both the Rock Island and Moline locations are closing. I was under the impression that these were generally considered two of the better Rudy’s locations, so this surprises me.

Does anyone know the story, here?

Food What are your go-to local restaurants?

What local restaurant(s) do you visit or order takeout from most frequently? No national franchises.

I'm familiar with a lot of QC restaurants already but was hoping I might get inspired to try something new. All cuisines encouraged!

Not looking for a local delicacy or a nice sit-down, just someplace with decent, reliable food when you don't feel like cooking. Heck maybe the food isn't even that good but it's a convenient option for you, idc, I'm just curious what everyone is actually eating out there.

New to Town Nursing Jobs in Quad Cities

Hello! I may be moving to Quad Cities soon, and my partner, who is a nurse, may be coming with me. She was unable to find much talk about how nursing in Quad Cities is.

  • So, how is nursing in Quad Cities? Particularly, ICU nursing?
  • Best/worst hospitals to work at?
  • Is there a difference on each side of the river?
  • How are nurse-patient ratios?
  • How is the pay?
  • Anything else?

Any and all insight is appreciated. Thanks for your help!

Recommendations Is the job market for entry level/admin jobs as bad as I'm hearing or am I being taken advantage of?

My mother has been unemployed for a few years, partially due to medical issues and been financially dependent on me, who lives in a different state. She has stabilized a bit and is attempting to find work and claiming that nobody is hiring, or there are tons of applicants for the type of jobs she's applying for and she gets no results (receptionist, teller, admin, etc.).

I see lots of job postings in the area, and the unemployment rate for Scott county is very low, so I'm suspecting she's doing the bare minimum (she sends me indeed job posting application submission confirmations) and not actually trying to get a job.

Curious to get a temperature check from folks in the area. Are entry level or admin type jobs really dried up in the QC? Standards are low. Housekeeping, administrative, retail, whatever employer would accept a 60 year old woman who has been out of the workforce for a few years (2-3).

She lives in Davenport, sorta near St Ambrose. Bonus points if anyone has any recommendations on navigating the QC without a car, as I don't think she can afford to own one for much longer. Thank you in advance for any tips or advice.

We’ll teach you before we haunt you. 😈

🎭 COME DRESSED TO KILL

Costumes are HIGHLY encouraged—and this is not the night to play it safe.

🏆 We’ll be awarding prizes for:

👻 Best Individual Costume
💀 Best Couples Costume

So don’t phone it in with a pair of cat ears you found in your closet five minutes before leaving. We expect commitment. 😂

Moline, IL 61265

💵 ADMISSION

Dance with friends. Dance with strangers. Dance with someone dressed as Beetlejuice.

Just. Keep. Dancing.

🕚 11:01 PM — THE SPELL IS BROKEN

And whosoever shall be found
Still on the dance floor getting down
Must leave the hall and end the show…

’Cause even monsters need to go to the after party at Corazon Latino 🧟‍♂️

Creatures crawl in search of not blood, but an amazing cocktail at Corazon Latino - a necessity paired with chips and fresh guac or ceviche.
Haunt the place until 1am!

🔥 FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS FROM THE OTHER SIDE

👯 Do I need a partner?

Nope! El Ritmo is all about community and connection. You’ll have plenty of opportunities to dance with different people throughout the night.

Come alone. Come with friends. Come with your entire coven.

Not even a little.

Our 7 PM lesson is designed specifically to get beginners comfortable before social dancing starts. Experienced dancers are always welcome too!

👗 What should I wear?

It’s Halloween. GO FOR IT.

Spooky. Glamorous. Ridiculous. Terrifying. Sexy. Clever. Completely unhinged.

Just make sure you can still dance in it.

And remember: there are prizes—and Halloween glory—at stake. 🎭

🍹 Will there be drinks?

Of course. We said spirits, didn’t we? 👻🥃

The University Club’s full bar will be open with cocktails, beer, wine, and Halloween concoctions throughout the evening. Cash and card accepted at the bar.

Miscellaneous Loud vehicle owners and operators,

I don’t wish you any real harm. However I do wish that every time you start to doze off you’re awakened by the sound of some obnoxious vehicle not unlike your own. I hope that every time you’re struggling to concentrate on something and you allllmossstttt have it figured out, your walls shake because of some ridiculous motorcycle and you lose focus. I hope that it wakes YOUR kids up just like it wakes other kids up. Now I understand that for motorcycles it’s allegedly a safety thing. But that doesn’t mean you should be loudly cruising through residential areas at all hours. It’s sad, you’re bad neighbors. And you sound fkn stupid

News No ice cream at West Walmart

Hi all! Just a friendly tip that the freezer that had all the ice cream had a surge today, so if you are in need of a late night ice cream run, go to Elmore because all the ice cream was thrown out for going above temp at Kimberly. Sad to say I wanted some and was denied 😩 I hope yall are able to get what yall need ice cream wise. All other freezes look to be fine. I dont know when I'm going back, so I hope someone else can update if they see them refilled or restocked!

Politics Illinois Political Ads

Why are we not seeing any Illinois political ads in the QC TV market except for JB Pritzker? Not that I like political ads mind you but I am sick to death of nothing but Iowa ads. It’s not like there are no contested races happening in Illinois. I’d like to know who some of the candidates are. I wonder what gives?!!

Recommendations Apartment hunting

Hey QA family, I need help apartment hunting. Looking for somewhere that offers at least 2 bed 1 bath (1.5 or 2 bath preferably but not necessary), has central air, and has in unit washers/dryers. I’m hoping to keep the rent 1650 or below depending on utilities included in the rent. Also kind of hoping to stay out of Milan, and not be right next to any schools since I work nights in Davenport. Got any recommendations? Thanks in advance.

Miscellaneous Any couples in the Quad Cities play MTG Commander?

My wife and I both enjoy playing Magic the Gathering (Commander) and are looking for other couples in the area to hang out and play with. Nothing against the local game stores, but we prefer a more laid-back, at-home setting where we can relax, have some laughs, and sling cardboard.

We're pretty casual about it and just looking to meet some chill people who share the hobby. If that sounds like your kind of thing, shoot me a DM!

Miscellaneous Is this the new way to see a physical therapist now?

To make a long story short, I had my doctor make a physical therapy referral to Silvis PT, same building in Silvis.

2 or so weeks later, I get a call to make an apt for 2 weeks or so later.

The day after my apt, I get call from a rather rude lady who told me their practice is out of my insurance network, and treated me like I was an idiot for not checking this with my own insurance.

I've carried insurance as an adult for over 15 years and have lived in multiple cities in IA and IL.

Not once, not ever, have I had to check with my insurance company if a facility is covered or not, that has ALWAYS been the job of the billing or front desk staff. I called my own insurance co and they even told me it's BS they never bothered checking.
