Self-taught Python developer building a personal AI platform—seeking an architecture mentor

Hi everyone, I’m an Australian solo founder building Forge, a personal AI platform focused on persistent knowledge, evidence-based reasoning and keeping the owner in control.

The question behind it is: how can an assistant become more useful over time while keeping its knowledge traceable, its mistakes correctable and consequential changes subject to human approval?

I’m developing it in Python with a modular, service-based architecture. There’s working code covering knowledge storage, retrieval, evidence handling and reasoning, but it’s still under development. My immediate focus is reliability, testing and bringing the pieces into dependable everyday use.

My background is in commercial fishing. I started learning software development through this project, initially working on an Android phone with Termux. I use AI coding assistants extensively, and I’m putting serious effort into understanding and verifying the results.

I’d like to connect with someone experienced in software architecture, AI systems or taking an ambitious prototype towards a maintainable product. An occasional conversation would be valuable—someone who can challenge my assumptions, spot unnecessary complexity and help me judge what deserves attention next.

I’m looking for perspective and honest criticism, rather than someone to build it for me. I can bring focused questions, diagrams and small, sanitised examples without sharing the full private codebase.

If that sounds interesting, I’d be very appreciative of a comment or message. Recommendations for communities where this kind of mentoring happens would also be welcome.

Thanks for reading!

If you want feedback on architecture, bring a diagram of your service interactions and a list of your main modules, people in the r/ExperiencedDevs Slack are much more likely to help if you show your current structure first.

I have a full architecture map I just dont want to give too much away because im afraid someone will try to steal my work and I've devoted the vast majority of my life the past 8 months to it so understandably dont want to take any unnecessary risks.

You may want to work out a different name. There are a few tools that are in the same domain with the same name. Then the idea seems to already be in the works by a previous GitHub CEO under the brand Entire. https://entire.com/blog/the-git-forge-for-agent-human-collaboration

I have already considered it but after 8 months in development I think a name change would make the project feel alien to me.

This sounds like a really interesting project! I'm currently learning Linux, Python, and cybersecurity, and I'm especially interested in how AI systems can maintain reliable knowledge, track evidence, and keep humans in control. I'm still a beginner, but I'd love to learn from your approach and follow your progress. Thanks for sharing your work!

Im still very much a beginner myself honestly I doubt I would be of any help to you and im not ready to share my whole project yet, just looking for someone to bounce my ideas off. Thanks for your comment though!
