I’m a Purdue freshman, and my CS professor emailed me saying they have evidence that I copy/pasted code from an external source. I have a meeting with them on the evening, and I’m really anxious about what might happen.

For context, I wrote the code myself before the exam and copied it to my clipboard because I was worried about running out of time. During the exam, I pasted it into one question. I didn’t use someone else’s code or AI, but I understand that this violated the exam instructions, which explicitly prohibited outside websites and software.

I’m planning to be honest about what happened, but I’m worried about the consequences.

Has anyone been through a similar situation at Purdue, especially in CS? What happened during the meeting? Is it possible to get a zero on the exam rather than fail the entire course? Does the professor decide the penalty, or does it go through the Dean of Students?

I’d really appreciate hearing about people’s actual experiences or advice on how to prepare for the meeting. I’m not trying to justify what I did; I just want to understand what to expect.

I am not the type to ask strangers for advice but I’m just so lost right now. I’m a sophomore in ME and recently I’ve just been so stressed and burnt out that it’s really starting to become a downward spiral. I wake up at like 7am every morning and work until like 9pm at the earliest with no breaks and then eat and go to sleep to do the same thing again the next day. I study whenever I can find time to and I’ve all but given up on my hobbies and taking care of myself, I’ve even dropped one of my classes, but it feels like it’s just never enough. I’m still doing poorly on exams and I feel like I’m just not understanding anything in any of my classes. I know this is supposed to be a difficult degree and all but it just feels like I’m living in a waking nightmare every day and I’m starting to wonder if this was the right choice for me. I’m looking for advice— on how to deal with the burnout and stress, or even just what to do next.

I’m currently a First-Year Engineering (FYE) student looking to CODO into Integrated Business and Engineering (IBE). To hit my credit target next semester, I’m planning to take Calculus 2 (MA 162/261 equivalent) and Calculus 3 over the next 2 summers through Ivy Tech. (Or maybe spring and summer)

I’m currently taking MA 161 (performing slightly above average, but nothing crazy). Since I live nowhere near a Purdue or Ivy Tech campus during the summer, I have a few questions about how Ivy Tech handles remote exams:

1. Are Ivy Tech summer and spring calculus courses proctored online?
2. How does their remote proctoring system work (e.g., Zoom/webcam, third-party software, local testing centers)?
3. For anyone who has taken Calc 2 or 3 through Ivy Tech, how was the experience compared to Purdue?
