This sub has seriously fallen off

I can't decide if I think it's actually worse now or not - this sub has always been pretty shit if we're being honest.

I've been coming to this sub for years, and the biggest constant from the time I started is complaining that it's gone down hill

There was a brief era when it was just programming related jokes and memes...
I haven't seen anything on this sub but AI bs for months now

Damn. I just got here recently and hadn’t noticed until you said that. Welp

Big layoffs in our field due to AI... It's to be expected but I assumed they would have given up by now

I’m unbothered by these layoffs. You should be too. It doesn’t change anything except what you will do for work. Consider it a change of routine and don’t give up. These people who got laid off merely need to learn something new. If anyone thought the cybersecurity landscape would never change they were disillusioned in the first place.
Edit: crying? Like you really wanted to do the same thing for the rest of your life? Be more flexible and you become more desirable as a job candidate. Not sorry.

We are too busy with the existential dread of being able to empty backlogs faster than PMs can fill them.

u/Bannon9k 2d ago
Then you got bad PMs. I've got tons of changes I haven't even logged because we don't have the time.

You can just have AI listen to your meetings, transcribe them for review and the next meetings minits as well as create new tickets or edit your tickets based on what you discussed. That is actually the type of task it is very good at. You just need to change your meeting style and terminologies a bit

Listen, I have to do 5 features before lunch. This thing is less a relationship and more a walk-up brothel.
So I take all the help I can get. Hauler when you need help with one of the heavy ones.

"Hauler" is some straight /r/BoneAppleTea shit

There are only two sides, either having personality as full AI supporter or AI hater, everybody around AI anyway

I think I was one of the last to adopt “vibe coding” at my company. Every month, the company gives its engineering team a set token allowance. At the beginning, it wasn’t a big deal, since I could still keep up with my coworkers on day-to-day tasks without relying heavily on AI. But now that the company has a set of Agent skills tailored for our stack, MCPs, and knowledge graphs for every division, I have no choice. I have to force myself to use them, or I’ll be left behind. Now all I do every day is type a few prompts and watch it go. It’s so weird that programming has come to this.

Genuinely sad seeing all these programmers lose their jobs thanks to forced AI usage
