Hi yall! Wanted to share this widget I made that displays live train arrival info for a station and line on your home screen.

The new MARTA app UI is so slow and clunky and it was making me so frustrated. I wanted to make something with minimal interaction, especially since I only cared about the same two stations every day for commute.

If you wanna try it out, you can go to a landing page I made with some more info and instructions. You can pick your own station, line, and direction and copy the script! Everything is free and open-source! I tried to make the process as simple as possible since I was sharing this with other friends who ride MARTA.

I welcome thoughts, feedback, criticisms! Also got mod approval to post this :p

I texted MARTA police last Wednesday about a man RUBBING ONE OUT on the train. Even managed to send them a photo. They didn’t show up until the last stop (north springs), 4 stops after I sent the message. Saw the police vehicle pull up as we were getting out the fare gates. Guy was long gone.

This morning another homeless guy was taking pictures of women including me on his phone. Not illegal but definitely not ok.

A couple months ago I ignored a man talking to me. He proceeded to cuss me out and follow me out towards the fare gates. I managed to get away from him in the crowd.

Marta please - this is unacceptable. All of these men were homeless or at least very rough looking. The guy who followed me was drunk.

Both of these incidents were at usual commuter times. I am a petite woman. I’m afraid to speak up and have someone pull out a gun or threaten me. I carry pepper spray. I sit in the very first car every time. I don’t want to ride anymore.

Seems like these trains are really done for. Was on the train today and noticed some strange sounds coming from the last car. Then by the time we left Lindbergh Center it was struggling go above 5 MPH. Had to turn the train around and board another train. The Red/Gold line has nothing but 4 car trains everywhere. Not a single 6 car train. The only time I've seen at least one 6 car train was on the Blue line but they are now mostly running 4 cars. These new trains seriously can't come soon enough.

If you have multiple trips on your Better Breeze card and a stored value balance what gets used first? Thanks in advance.

So the other day I tapped to get in the station walked across to where the buses are and was tryna tap to get out when it kept saying: “Already tapped.”Uh no I didn’t I tapped to get in. That’s entirely different from tapping to get out. I was literally trapped until a worker tapped me out and on top of that all the breeze card machines were down and the employees were yelling at the card users that buy with cash for using the emergency exit but how can they get a card if everything is broken? So does that mean I need 2 cards to get in and out of the same station within a 5-10 timeframe or is this new technology so bogus it cant tell when Im tapping in or tapping out? Let me know. Thanks

If you are going to the game via the green and blue lines, you should leave early. MARTA is dealing with a trespasser between King Memorial and Inman Park.

I’m headed to the game tomorrow driving in from Savannah. What’s the best station to park at to get to the stadium?

Does anyone know if they have the “Better Breeze” fare gates at the East Lake station? I saw online somewhere that they didn’t have any at all and wondering how I’m supposed to “tap out”. Thanks.

Does anyone know how/where to get a MARTA lanyard for my Breeze card? I know they have things called “Ride Stores” but I don’t know where they are or if they have any available. Thanks!

Was at the Lindbergh station when one came through on its way to the airport

When MARTA started to relaunch work to improve functionality and aesthetics at its centralized transit hub nearly two years ago, the Five Points station redevelopment project was expected to cost $230 million. 

Now it could cost in the ballpark of $100 million more, as the agency’s newly appointed leader has relayed to city government officials. 

Jonathan Hunt, MARTA general manager and CEO, recently told the Atlanta City Council’s Transportation Committee the forecast calls for a “large budget jump” at the Five Points station, due in part to unforeseen delays. 

I was heading home and got to Five Points around 11:20, and we didn’t pull off until 12. A CQ400 pulled up and sat there for around 5-10 minutes, and then a Gold Line train pulled up, boarded, and we sat there for 20+ minutes. We single tracked at Garnett and when we were approaching West End I could see the flashing lights of emergency vehicles in the distance. Anybody know whats up? Within this time frame FOUR northbound trains arrived and departed (with the first one dwelling for a few minutes as well for some reason).

Happened to me the other day on the 11. MARTA app shows the next two or three buses, the soonest arriving one shows a live icon. Bus never shows up, bus isn't on the map.

How does this happen, does the live icon mean nothing? It showed a timer until arrival along with a live icon. I don't understand how it was calculating an eta when there wasn't a bus to track.

So you can't even trust the live icon? This sort of bullshit makes the system unusable. Seriously, you cannot rely on anything. The only way you can use a system that operates like this is to pad your schedule with extra hours of waiting time.

Thank you to the people who actually explained what a transfer counts as, the website was very unclear which is why I went here. It was a very successful day 2 after learning, thanks again for the help y’all !!

I haven’t ridden Marta much in my life, so I’m still struggling a bit with understanding what some things mean. Is a transfer just me getting off one bus and getting on another? I didn’t add money to my card at all today, so I know that isn’t it. Am I only allowed to get on/off two buses for every three hours?? Very confused about this

How am I supposed to get to work? The situation was the same yesterday, with only one bus operating the entire route. I usually take the 194 northbound at either 8:00 a.m. or 8:44 a.m., but neither of those buses is available today. SMH

One just pulled into Midtown going east bound and turned where the 12 and 14 park. Judging by the reactions of the other people waiting (I just got here 20 minutes ago), this is not the first one to be cancelled, but not noted as cancelled.

I would ask on the app, but clearly the people at MARTA rarely have a clue.

Ever since the CQ400’s have started their intensive testing back before the WC I made it a mission to get as much footage of them as possible and get them at all stations possible (which I finally accomplished a few nights ago) and always wanted to get these work cars out but with these things being out so little I didn’t think much about them. Especially as they had sat in the same place in Avondale without moving for about 5 months. Just as a question is there any clue or idea when they might make another sweep?

Shout-out to the driver's for talking amongst themselves to figure out who's leaving first and telling us. But the first bus is only going to King Memorial and turning around 😩

Accidentally updated the app and the new app is so glitchy and has too many things going on. I just wanna track the buses 😭

I'm wearing out the Report button on the MARTA app. I have gotten some stellar service and I have gotten the most rude ass, gaslighting mediocre service (I'm looking at you Operator 209.)

I'm emailing the actual MARTA customer service email, but who should I CC on it to actually effect change?

There are lots of recurring complaints on this thread (defective real-time tracking, passing up passengers, ghost buses, failure to list cancellations on the app, etc.)

I don't want to go full on Karen and tag an investigative reporter from the news, but there has to be a point where there is measureable progress and accountability for known issues.

I care about public transport and understand how important it is to the economy so I really want MARTA to meet the consistent standards of public transport of other cities I have regularly used, like Milwaukee and Chicago.
