Welcome to r/knives! If you’re new to this subreddit (or new to Reddit as a whole) you may be wondering how things work around here. If that’s the case: don’t worry, we’ve made this post in order to clear some doubts you may have regarding the way this subreddit works.

  • Be sure to check our Wiki and our FAQ section. Our Wiki acts as a repository for general knowledge regarding knives (blade steels, how to use knives, how to identify knives, etc…) while our FAQ serves as a place where we answer specific questions that tend to be asked regularly in this subreddit. Some of the questions already answered in our FAQ are these: questions regarding the topic of knives and self-defence, the meaning of the “NKD” and “SOTC” acronyms, what are some popular knives with a blade length of 6.5cm/2” or less, etc…
  • Our rules can be found in our sidebar and you can read a further explanation of them by clicking/tapping on the “rules” button located in the subreddit’s menu. We kindly ask you familiarize yourself with our rules before submitting a post.
  • In our sidebar you’ll also find a list of related subreddits. These are communities who share the same passion we’ve got about knives and edge tools of all sorts. Make sure to pay them a visit, they’re very friendly and it would be a shame if you missed out on the knowledge they have to offer.

Thanks a lot for stopping by our subreddit, we’re always glad to share our passion and knowledge about knives with newcomers and veterans alike. Please take your time to explore the subreddit, you can also write any comment or question you may have on the comment section of this post. Showcase Found this on the side of the road while taking a walk. No sheath unfortunately and a little chip on the tip but still a nice find ::) Been sharpening it and considering making a sheath for it.

My boss got this from a friend, he really likes it but says his friend paid $40 for it online. Just curious, he thinks it’s fake but says it holds an edge really well even if fake.

Question I can't put this one down. Any similar recs?

Post image

Was lucky enough to pick up a Caliber off the Swap not long ago and it immediately worked its way into my favs list. It's light, has amazing steel (and a long blade) and just feels so damn sophisticated and gentlemanly. Don't even get me started on it's fidgetbility, so damn fun to play around with. Any recommendations on similar knives? Something with at least a 3.5" blade and good steel would be top priorities. Would also like multiple opening options, with front flippers going to the front of the line. Got a ton of good recs for similar specs from here awhile back, but trying to narrow those down now to something in line with this bad boy.

I'm getting married Saturday and we obviously have a theme. The bride and bridal party will have Scream masks and plastic Bucks, but my boys know I wouldn't give them a fake blade. I went with the Tramontina 18" bush machete, I know at least a few of them will see real use.

Only my second automatic and like it way better than my other. Nice weight to it and very springy (very unexpectedly springy on first flip out).

Question Bit of help, have this knife and don't know what is wrong with it

Bought this knife from Cutboy in Bangkok (https://maps.app.goo.gl/upKfgbu8YENKtffU9?g_st=ac). Paid $150-200 USD for it in March 2025. I have used it maybe a dozen times and every time it has that bit of rust colour on it.

I took it in to get an opinion when I was having my parents kitchen knives sharpened and was told it was in bad condition because it is pitting. The little pits have been there since I bought it so not sure if I have been sold a duff.

Just looking for any help / advice on what to do. I bought it as an indulgent self treat to mark a milestone so would like to keep it.

Discussion Midgards Messer Dvalin Tanto

Having just got a second hand MM Viking V3, I've seen this for sale for £180 and am quite tempted. The site has this and a MM Thunrar for £260. The custom aspect of the Dvalin is appealing, but the super chonkyness of the Thunrar is as well. Of course I'd like them both, but I need to choose. And opinion? Thanks 😊

Got my first CRK on the secondary market. Like most collectors and enthusiasts in this hobby ive drooled over them as unobtanium masterpieces for years but to actually hold and own one has that "I've finally made it" feeling of relief. Thanks to the seller for listing this knife for a really good price and for actually knowing how to sharpen a tanto (and for putting a damn sharp edge on it) if you see this. Purchased on bladebinge Oct 22nd
