October 2026 Mega-Thread

October is here! Here are this month's questions:

Do you have favorite Halloween themed scent? Do you have a piece of gear that you think fits the season? What is it?

Is there a scent that reminds you of a specific fall memory?

Any favorite fall-time activities you enjoy? Apple picking? Pumpkin carving? Leaf crunching?

Anyone have any good pumpkin-based or pumpkin adjacent recipes?

Do you have a favorite film/game/book you like to revisit this time of year?

Any new items you're looking to pick up now that the Fall season is in full swing?

Do you have any favorite fall-time beverages? Spiced Cider? Pumpkin Spice Lattes? Feel free to share!

New wetshaver? This is the perfect place to ask questions.

First shave with this late model pat.1912 was great, a little tuggy but then I've lost count on the blade usage, I confusingly have 8 marks plus another 2 on a piece of paper in my draw, I'm sure its 2 on this blade but it felt a little bit like 8 😄 so who knows!

Overall the handle was very grippy and the balance was great, the iconic noise was there of course and 3 passes later (WTG/XTGx2) a DFS

Glad to put another old razor back into action after decades of neglect

Good shaves everyone 🍻

SOTD Tabac Tech Tuesday

Razor: 1956 Gillette Ball End Tech

Blade: PermaSharp (6th use)

Brush: Pure Badger

Soap: Tabac

Cologne: Tabac

A lovely Tuesday shave with the Tech/Tabac gear. The Tech and PermaSharp blade are a solid combination, delivering another smooth, comfortable shave.

The Tabac soap produced a lovely lather, and finishing off with the matching Tabac cologne was the perfect way to round things out.

Kicking myself for not trying this soap years ago, especially the old tallow based formulation. I was initially on the fence about the scent, having only ever smelled the cologne, but after using the soap several times now, I’m happy to say I like it very much. Better late than never!

Good shaves 🍻

Finally Trying Out A Safety Razor

Post image
• Upvotes

I'm 55 and finally trying out my first ever old school shave. I have used cartridge razors for 40 years.

First try and I bled a fair bit. Pushed too hard I think. Gave myself pretty good razor burn too. I'm watching videos and learning. Will try new techniques learned, not pushing too hard. I do love the look, feel and weight of my safety razor. Next aquired products will be a badger brush and some good foaming soap/creme. I am enjoying this new journey.

✰ Razor: Lambda Athena Copper
✰ Blade: Wilkinson Sword Classic (1)
✰ Bowl: Captain’s Choice Obsidian
✰ Brush: Oumo Lattice-Labyrinth ST-1
✰ Soap: Montana Natural Unscented
✰ Balm: Nivea Sensitive
✰ Splash: Brut Classic

Oh, the CuThena - what a great razor. Probably the most attractive razor I’ve used, but it is much more than a pretty face.

Despite a small blade gap and neutral blade exposure, the Athena shaves better and closer than many razors with more promising specs. I’m sure this is due to the excellent blade clamping, minimal reveal and a touch of Theo magic.

A fun shave today. Gold tone Gem Junior + PTFE coated GEM blade. Melted a stick of Arko into a vintage Waverley SHAVEMUG, Omega brush, and (new) Lilac Vegetal (in a vintage glass bottle).

Weird thing is I can find nothing about Waverley Lavender, but these Waverley shavemugs are pretty common, so they must've sold a lot of them at one point.

Gillette Super Speed 👍

Post image
24 Upvotes

First time using the Gillette Super speed circa 1950. Pretty much as advertised. On the mild side, easy daily shaver.

It has nice weight to it, heavier than my less preferred aluminum safety razors. The handle is shorter but not travel size short, which I appreciate.

My biggest complaint is the angle of the blade, which is not as angled as much has I’d like. I looked it up (super speeds generally) and they are to be approx. 22 degrees.

Still on the look out for the fatty, but happy with this find too!

not an ad!

i've been playing around with fragrance ingredients and i just noticed this on fraterworks, one of the more reputable sites for perfumery materials.

apparently they've put together the OG-very-poison! banned brut formula, which can be easily made into whatever type of brut product you'd like.

i'm going to order some myself but though i'd post because i'm sure there are fougere aficionados around.

Question Newbie

Hi all,

First time poster. I'm 38 and have always struggled with wet shaving. I have sensitive skin and always end up with rashes and spots. That said, I have only ever used cartridge razors. For years now I have been using a braun electric razor which is pretty good for what it is. However, as you can imagine I never really get a good close shave and if I want one I end up applying a lot of pressure and going back and forth over the same area which can lead to irritation. I also find shaving a bit of a chore!

I have fully gone down the rabbit hole with wet shaving using a safety razor. I have read countless posts/comments on here. Read in to brushes synthetic/badger/hog. Watched YouTube videos etc etc

So I have a shopping list and just wanted to get people's thoughts

Henson Al13 mild

Astra blades

Wilkinson sword blades

Omega 49 brush and bowl

Proraso white sensitive shaving soap

Alum block

Nivea aftershave (use this currently)

Im pretty happy with my list based on my research, the only thing is the actual razor! Looking through posts on here it gets a lot of praise but also a lot of backlash about its marketing and something like a merkur 34c would be better at a fraction of the cost etc

I just think given my history with sensitive skin and absolutely no experience in using a blade this would be the best option for me?

Anyway sorry for the long post just interested to get thoughts from people as there seems to be a lot of experience and enthusiasm in here. People actually enjoy shaving and treating it as some sort of ritual/hobby and that's where I'd like to get to rather than seeing it as a chore and worrying my face is going to look like a pepperoni pizza!

Decided to take the plunge on the Fatip il Grosso after I heard so much about it...crooked head and all, I'm hoping mine isn't too bad. The packaging looks like it had been opened already. Not a good start but hoping it's worth it.🤞

Mail Call Double mail call!

Double deliveries today! All of the samples smell exactly as I imagined - the descriptions were perfect. I can see myself using, if not buying full tubs, of all of them except 1988; the powder comes off pretty strong in that one, and while it does really fit the decade, it's not a scent I envision myself using frequently, but I'll definitely give it a shot! I'm most excited for the 1944: the bay rum actually takes a back seat to the cinnamon, but it smells fantastic regardless. I also found what smells like tobacco, but none is listed, which is interesting...maybe it's a result of a combination of some of the oils? Who knows! The aftershave is much the same, but isn't as forward on the cinnamon, letting the leather shine a bit more, in addition to the bay rum base.

I'm also looking forward to this brush. It's relatively comfortable to hold, with a slight awkwardness, but I'm sure that'll get sorted out relatively quickly with use. It's a beautiful brush and the tribble synthetic looks an awful lot like real hair.

I can't wait to try the 1944 combo and the brush. I'll try for tonight, but it'll be a late night after sports practice, so it may be tomorrow. I have a handful of new blades on the way from Maggard that might be here tomorrow, anyway.

Until then: happy shaving!

Theme :Time warp Monday, A mostly German shave the blade being the only exception for today's theme shave with a soap which has been around before you were born and Tabac fits the bill there .

Here is a wee bit of history about Tabac from there website.

Say what you like about the scent but for me it provides a damn good shave .

I spotted this poster in one of the pubs we visited last night.

Daily challenge, this was just silly .

Question Does anyone know the Goodfellas’ Smile Impero razor closed comb?

Hi everyone, I’ve read quite a few reviews of the Goodfellas’ Smile Impero razor. There are two versions available: closed comb and open comb.

It’s made in Italy. The closed-comb head is made of die-cast zinc alloy with a satin finish, while the handle is made of AISI 303 stainless steel with a hard chrome coating. It has a 0.70 mm blade gap and weighs 110 g. From what I’ve read, it’s quite a heavy razor, which should help prevent you from applying too much pressure to the skin.

The closed-comb version is said to provide a more aggressive shave than a Merkur 34C or a Mühle R89. I imagine the open-comb version is even more aggressive.

If you’ve used one, what do you think of it? And which razor would you compare it to?

thanks
