The community is moderated by alumni and members of the broader HBCU community, bringing perspectives from multiple HBCUs and different generations of college experience.

Speak Freely. Engage Responsibly.
This is your space to vent, question, discuss, celebrate, criticize, remember, debate, and share.
You do not have to love every decision Howard makes. And you certainly don't have to pretend everything is perfect. But freedom to speak does not remove responsibility for what we say.

About Information & Rumors
Not everything posted here is verified.
Someone saying something happened does not automatically make it fact.
A screenshot can lack context.
A rumor can travel faster than a correction.
And sometimes the person answering the phone doesn't have the complete answer either.
When discussing important matters involving financial aid, enrollment, housing, admissions, academic standing, disciplinary matters, deadlines, or University policy, verify information through appropriate official sources whenever possible.

You can criticize Howard without treating every Bison, employee, professor, administrator, or alumnus as the enemy.
Respect does not mean silence.
Sometimes respect means being willing to have the difficult conversation.

Is resume required for Howard Undergrad?
It was shown as optional in common app, so I skipped it. Now it gives an awaiting status in my applicant portal. Is it actually mandatory?
It it is not mandatory, how big of a disadvantage will it be if I don't submit it.
Also, it's not related to topic but, the applicant portal does not say anything about my Fee waiver or English proficiency test. Does this mean I don't have to worry about them anymore?

Why is Howard architecture program ranked near the bottom?
Anybody in or close to the program can explain these bottom tier scores and what the university is doing to fix this? Howard is often celebrated as the best historically black university but FAMU is ranked above them in these rankings. What's up with that?

Open house tomorrow at Vie Towers (Sat 10/24, 11β2) β free shuttle from Stokes Library + $300 to the org that brings the most people
Hey y'all β disclosure up front: I work with the Vie Towers team in Hyattsville, so yes, this is a promo post, but I'll answer questions straight in the comments.
We're hosting an open house tomorrow, Saturday Oct 24 from 11amβ2pm, and we're running a free shuttle from Stokes Library so nobody has to sort out a ride:
- 10:30am β pickup at Howard (Stokes Library)
- 11:00am β arrive at Vie Towers / open house begins
- 11:45am β shuttle heads back with the first group
- 12:15pm β back at Howard + second group pickup
- 12:45pm β second group arrives at Vie
- 1:45pm β shuttle leaves Vie with the second group
- 2:15pm β final drop-off at Howard
Two waves, so you can come early or midday.
The incentive part: the student org/group with the most attendees gets a $300 donation, and there are two $100 individual raffle drawings. Bring your org if you want the donation to land with you.
Quick facts, since these are always the first questions: every bedroom is private with its own bathroom, units are fully furnished, leases are individual (you're only responsible for your own rent), there's roommate matching if you don't have people lined up, in-unit laundry, a rooftop pool and a 2-story social lounge. New rates start at $1,199/person. Immediate move-ins through January 31, 2027 get one month free, and there's an extra 3% off for student org members, healthcare students, and working professionals/interns.
Even if you're just casually looking for spring or next fall, come tour, grab something from the cider/caramel apple bar, and enter the raffle. Happy to answer "what's the catch" questions below too.

Question about Regular Decision, ACT scores, and scholarships
Hey everyone! Howard is my top-choice school, and Iβm trying to figure out the best application plan for me.
I was originally hoping to apply Early Action, but Iβm planning to retake the ACT in December because Iβm not satisfied with my current score, and it's not great, so Iβm leaning toward Regular Decision.
For anyone who applied to Howard through Regular Decision, were you still offered a decent amount of merit-based scholarships or institutional financial aid? Iβm trying to understand whether applying Regular Decision significantly limits scholarship opportunities compared to Early Action.
Iβm especially interested in hearing from people who applied test-optional or submitted improved ACT scores later.
Iβd really appreciate hearing about your experiences. Howard is my dream school, but affordability is a major factor in my decision. Thank you!

Early Action vs Regular Decision
Hi, Iβve asked all my friends and I really donβt like their answers so Iβm here.
I didnβt get as high of a score as I wanted to apply early action for Howard and receive their presidential scholarship (fullride) according to charts they posted last year. I got 29π, 27 on both english and math and a 34 on reading.
They wonβt accept any other scores after early action deadline for scholarship consideration, so do I apply RD and hope they donβt run out of money if and when I get atleast a 34, or should I just apply now?
For more context my unweight gpa: is above a 3.9, with my weighted sitting at around a 6.1/7. I also have numerous awards
Also all my friends said just apply, but I wonβt be allowed to go anywhere not local without a fullride so..π«©
please helpππ½

Divinity School enrollment
I ask this as a genuine question, so I appreciate genuine answers.
I am a 47 year old white woman who lives in DC. I am looking at local schools for a Masters of Divinity. I am very interested in HUSD, but I need input from students and alumni about how my enrollment/presence/not sure what word to use will be seen at an HBCU. If the overall perception is that "we really would rather not have you in our space," then I respect that. But I don't know unless I ask. I acknowledge it feels like an awkward question. Thank you.

Recommendations
Convening with friends from out of town looking for recommendations in the area near Howard for restaurants, bars, and clubs.
I'm from the Midwest so looking for hole-in-wall/dives or cocktail bars.
In terms of restaurants whatever's good.
Any nearby clubs or should we plan on going downtown?
Thanks.

having trouble applying for flagship MSW
hi guys! iβm trying to apply to HUβs in person program for a Masterβs of Social Work to start in the spring of 2027! the only issue is i genuinely have no idea how to open up the application LOL (before you crucify me i still have been working on the essay and all but i canβt get the actual application open?)
does anyone know where i should be looking, am i crazy? i see other HU programs on GradCAS, but nothing for social work. The enrollment team for the online MSW have been super helpful and responsive, but i havenβt had as much luck with the in-person/flagship team (which is fine iβm not complaining, i just want some help!)
thanks everyone!!!! :-)

How long does it take for Howard to receive SAT scores usually?
I just got my Oct 3 SAT result. So, if I send it today, will I make the EA deadline? How long does it usually take for Howard to get to the scores?

Radiation therapy
Hi everyone!
Iβve been looking into radiation therapy programs in my area, and I recently discovered that Howard offers one.
Iβm currently attending a community college and have completed around 40 credits so far. Iβm hoping to transfer into Howardβs upper-division Radiation Therapy program, but Iβm a little nervous because Iβve heard itβs extremely competitive and only accepts a handful of students each year.
I currently have a 3.54 GPA. I also failed two courses in the past but retook them, so Iβm worried about how that might affect my chances of admission.
Has anyone here applied to the program and been accepted? If so, would you mind sharing your GPA, academic background, and experience with the application process? Iβd also love to know whether there was an interview.
Any advice or insight would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!
