Plugin I am the new maintainer for the Homebridge Wyze plugin: 2.0 beta is out
Hi all, I'm identd113 on GitHub. I've taken over the Homebridge Wyze plugin (homebridge-wyze-smart-home) and its wyze-api library. jfarmer08 built them and kept them going for years, and in October he said he couldn't keep up with them (#315), so I offered to take over. The 2.x branch and the 2.0 betas are the first releases under that arrangement. The stable 0.5.x line is unchanged for anyone who stays on it.
What's in 2.0.0-beta.3
Better camera and doorbell handling, including live view and pictures in the Home app
Support for newer devices. The README marks each one as ✅ tested on real hardware, 🟢 carried over from earlier releases, or 🟡 registered but not yet verified
Login and 2FA fixes
Old configs converted on first start, with a backup kept
It's on the beta tag, so a normal install still gives you stable. To try it, pick the beta version in the Homebridge UI, or run npm install homebridge-wyze-smart-home@beta.
Coming from 2.0.0-beta.2? The 2.0 line already lives in jfarmer08's repo as the 2.0.0 branch, and 2.x here continues from it, so moving over should be easy. If you installed beta.2 from npm, nothing in your config needs to change. Update Node.js to 22 or newer, then update to beta.3.
How it's built: I use AI coding assistants, mainly Claude and earlier OpenAI Codex, to get fixes and new devices out quickly. They write a lot of the code, but I decide what goes in, review it, run it and release it. The structure is still jfarmer08's (one class per device type, API work kept in wyze-api), and new code follows his conventions. There are automated tests, and each release has notes on what changed, what was tested on real hardware and what wasn't.
What I can test: two Cam v3 (one with the floodlight), a Cam v2, a Doorbell v2 and a Palm Lock. Wyze's product generations often share a code path (22 camera model codes go through one camera class, for example), so a report from one device can cover its relatives. That's a chance, not a guarantee, and some models take their own route (the newer cameras, battery cams, the doorbell). If you have one of those, a report from you is especially useful.
If something misbehaves or your device isn't listed, the new-device form is the quickest way to ask: https://github.com/identd113/homebridge-wyze-smart-home/issues/new/choose. Feedback on how the project is run is welcome too, in Discussions.
Separately, I also wrote a free, open-source DVR for HDHomeRun tuners (a macOS menu bar app), if that's your kind of thing: https://github.com/identd113/hdhr_VCR_swift
Thanks to jfarmer08, misenhower and everyone in the contributors list. This builds on your work.
