Friends, Sinfield, How I met your Mother, growing up watching early 2000s sitcoms really misrepresented what friendships as an adult would be like. During college, I worked full-time and during grad school, I added assistantships to also working and there never was time to develop friendships. I moved states multiple times in my early career to chase advancements. By the time I had reached a comfortable place in my career, COVID happened. Now I’m established, comfortable, married with a child, but am really missing the social and friendship component in life. Not to sound like a kid, but I’d really like a best friend or a few.

I’m 40, male. I like going to baseball games, camping, hiking, playing board games and Lorcana. When I was in my early 20s I hung out with the LGBTQ crowd and am really comfortable there. I’d like to workout, but currently don’t. I’m pretty laid back and like to text throughout the day, so I’m also good for passing time that way. I’m just throwing myself out there and looking for anyone else who may be seeking the same thing.

Probably one of the hardest questions during interviews. It’s easy to say, “I’m blah blah, 26, from somewhere in the world,” then list your achievements, skills, and experiences. Funny how that generic answer is already programmed in my head.

But if I ask myself who I really am, the answer gets a little harder. I’m a mess, but I’m a good daughter. Or at least, I’m trying to be. Am I a good person? I’d like to think so. Do I get angry? I do. Am I reasonable? Most of the time, probably not. I’m just one person among billions, trying to survive one day at a time.

Sometimes I wonder how everyone else is doing too. Did someone celebrate something today? Get a promotion? Or maybe simply enjoy their favorite food after a long day. Some people are at the top of the world, while others are barely holding on. We rarely know which is which. So, I guess, let’s be kind. Be the person we’d want to meet on a difficult day.

Anyway, that’s me. A 26 year old still figuring things out.

Pretty much title! I've just got back from a short trip to Budapest last night, ate a lot, had a looooot of pretty views and had a nice time, now I have two days before I go back to real life. I've got a load of laundry and chores to do, meeting a friend for a probably quite windy walk tonight and then appointments tomorrow, but for a lot of the time I'd like to just chill. I'd love to speak to people, near or far, both in the next few days as I do chores and so on, then ongoing for hopefully quite a long time, I've got some internet friends I adore, in some cases I've travelled with and am really close to, that I've known for years and I'd like more of that vibe, not really fussed in short or one off convos honestly.

As for myself, I work from home doing a travel insurance job, its mostly mid, but its full WFH and that saves it. My big interest is travel, my wallet hates me so much for it. I've been to Philippines/Singapore/Malaysia over two Asia trips, a lot of Europe as well as Jamaica and Canada. Last year I did Istanbul, Portugal and a Norway cruise, plus a Asia trip. Visited Serbia, Madrid and Poland this year then returned from Budapest. I have a cruise with family next year to Greece/Turkey/Malta and a friends wedding in Greece and I'm hoping maybe Asia or Africa next year, funds permitting, I'm always down for trip buddies so if we vibe I'm in! Beyond that, I'm a pretty keen reader, plus the usual smattering of videogames/sports watching/tv shows/gym (but mostly to offset meals out and a problematic keenness for chocolate). I live at the edge of a town and some of the walks are lovely here too. I've dabbled with painting, taken up and dropped the piano a few times (I used to play when I was younger and was decent and sometimes get the urge to play again).

I always prefer a bit of closure, if we've spoke for a while and your situation changes and you won't be chatting anymore, I hate the ghostly exit, if its early on then fair can't vibe with everyone, but if we've spoke for a while I always feel disappearing is a bit of poor form, but its the internet so it happens.

In terms of where to talk, I do prefer to move to apps, I use most of the usual ones but staying here is fine too if necessary. Include your basic details in your message, the usual about me stuff is fine, don't feel the need to match the rambling essay above! :)
