We have been to you’re usual farmhouse inns, tobys and such but I know that some cafes & restraunts will do a roast specifically on a Sunday… anyone here have any suggestions/hidden gems or you’re favourite places to get a “good” roast on a Sunday

Just looking for some nice suggestions as we went to Tobys recently and honestly it was one of the worst I’d ever had and don’t want a repeat she deserves a cracker of a roast 🤌🏼😮‍💨

Wife and I ate at The Cottage last night for our anniversary.

Was amazing, so romantic and unique.

Food was fantastic, felt very thought out and local. The waiter was mentioning the bread, coffee and beers came from about a mile away.

Cool place and can’t wait to go back.

Hello! Myself and my daughter (f,36 and f,7) are coming to stay in Edinburgh for a couple of days this week. We will be staying by Murrayfield. Last time we came we absolutely loved Cosmos however we this time round my daughter can't eat dairy or egg (not just for the craic, it really plays havoc with her stomach). I know that Cosmos say they have allergen labels but im none the wiser if there would be things my daughter could eat. She loves sweet and sour chicken, prawn crackers, chips, she loved the chocolate fountain aswell but im assuming theres only an actual chocolate fountain? Is there any vegan brownies or such like?

Specific i know, just would hate to take my child there all excited and it to be a disaster.

Also, any other tips on places to get lunch and dinner around princes street/murrayfield area?

I am a Canadian on Holiday in Scotland and I am looking to see if anyone knows where I can find a couple bottles of Crabbie's Raspberry Ginger Beer.

My wife absolutely loves them and they don't sell them in Canada anymore.

I have seen the original Crabbie's ginger beer in Tesco's and Sainsbury's but non of the flavoured ones. If anyone know where I might be able to find some I would be so grateful.

Hi, my girlfriend and I are visiting Edinburgh for the first time mid November, to enjoy the beginning of Christmas! I am looking for a place to eat typical Scottish food and I found the Amber restaurant, which is part of The Scotch Whisky Experience. They offer a menu with 3 samples for starters, 3 for main course an a dessert matched with a whisky, for £55 pp. I was able to find only one 7/10 review from 2021 on this sub so I'd like to know if:

1) The price matches the quality of the menu ?

2) Would there be a better restaurant offering a similar experience : a menu featuring local food and eventually a whisky pairing. Same price or below, and quality preferred over quantity. We are not fond of whisky but it is probably caused by lack of knowledge and would be glad to learn more.

I saw the recommendations in the last month post (Restaurant recommendations for a first trip) but they were not looking for quite the same thing.

I had my birthday dinner on 9/14/2026 at The Witchery locals say it is a tourist trap located on the mile but I didn't feel it was. A tourist place would be packed and the way it aas doesn't seem casual for a tourist. The ambience is very gothic and dark with only candle light on the tables. Price range is pricey I joked to myself being a solo traveler the bread basket was the inexpensive item on the menu being 2 pounds for a 2 rolls and butter. The food is interesting given I have not eaten much game and the menu changes each month. For starter I had rabbit amd the main was a scouse finishing with a summer berry meringue dessert. I thought the food was good and wouldn't mind coming back for a nice meal maybe I would afford to spend a night or two at the actual hotel. I would say the tattie place on Jeffery st was really fulfilling and would love to go back there.

Any good but semi cheap restaurants near the Corn Exchange ? We are going to the Big Swally so probably not something too expensive as we will have quite a few beers by the evening.

And good places for a Full Scottish in the mornings?

But I wanted to ask, since we’ll be arriving on Saturday with the 19:39 train at Waverley Station, and our hotel is in Haymarket, where can we find something to eat that night?

I remember from a previous trip that restaurants tend to close early, but it was a long time ago, so maybe it isn’t the case anymore?
I guess we could still buy a sandwich at the train station, but I imagine that after our trip, we’d rather sit somewhere and have a warm meal, and most of all, a PINT hahaha

Still, I feel like they either aren't exactly what I am looking for, or Google Images doesn't show off the feeling that I am describing unless you've been there and can attest to that vibe. I am looking for the quite small, hole-in-the-wall, nice, dimly-lit, neighborhood-ie type of place? I hope this description makes sense. Looking for some recommendations for a restaurant for a 40th Birthday dinner; it's just me and my friend (their birthday). We've both been to The Witchery before, so probably somewhere else, it'll be end of October, so those kind of vibes, would still be nice.

He likes just about anything under the sun, but it must be good food and not pretentious small dishes and overly complicated.

I want to show my boyfriend how delicious Scottish food is. Unfortunately, he is allergic to dairy (not just lactose-intolerant), eggs, and tree nuts (peanuts and coconut are okay). I’ve seen some vegan pie, pasty, and haggis options. But I would love to find options that have meat as well since he can eat meat and so many Scottish dishes are meat-based.
