Takeover Announcement

Hello and sorry for the wait!!

We know you have some questions. We know things have been hanging in the balance.

As some of you may know, and most of you probably don’t, this sub was recently put up for adoption.

Well as of a week or so ago, me and /u/livinin82 have taken over. Fear not, weary redditors, for we have known each other quite some time, and we have been on Reddit for a while as well. We absolutely recognize /r/DAE as a staple of the beginning of Reddit, as well as a place most of us subscribed to first.

We do not take this lightly, and that’s why we’ve been preparing to make this announcement.

First things first: There are a lot of things in the queue from however long this subreddit has been in a stasis. We are doing our best to work through it and see what is in there worth keeping and what needs to be trashed. Which brings us to our next point.

Second: While sifting through this massive inbox, we witnessed a few, for lack of better terms, concerning post suggestions/topics. I think I speak for everyone here when I say this isn't a place to go out of your way to be edgy. Maybe try other subreddits that are less universally subscribed to. We don’t need more violence or negativity in the world. This will be at our discretion but don’t just post things to shock people, or get a negative reaction. There are many other places for things like that. Maybe try the Instagram comments section.

Third: In the future after we figure out the direction we’re taking this sub, we’d like to entertain the idea of opening up applications for mods. We will be very intentional with screening should we decide to go that far. Keep a lookout here in case we post about it, and if you’re interested, let us know!!

Our main goal here is to appreciate the shared experience. We know this is Reddit and some things will be risqué or a little off color to some extent, and we aren’t prudes ourselves, just make sure to mark NSFW if you are posting something that you know a boss or coworker wouldn’t want to read at work.

With that being said, if you have any suggestions about what we should do with our newly acquired section of the internet, by all means leave it in the comments. We will be a little scattered in the beginning as we have our own personal lives, and other coals in the fire as well. We look forward to upholding the community that many others have worked to build, as well as making sure people feel safe and happy here. Be kind to each other, even if you disagree with someone. And if you have an ancient post you wanna resubmit feel free.

This is a fresh start for this sub so we’re here for it.

DAE not know their direction?

Let me clarify. I know north is up west is right and so forth. BUT I don’t know the direction I’m looking at currently. If someone told me “yeah just head north” I don’t know which direction north is from my current position. Is that something I’m just supposed to know like my left and right?

DAE never say the word "whom?" I only use it starting emails to people I don't know the name of, like to whom it may concern, but other than that I never say it aloud or use it any other way.

I've seen multiple movies and TV shows when one character tells another character, "You should have said whom instead of who." I guess I don't care about that word much at all. Whomever too.

DAE love the taste of but hate food you have to deconstruct to eat?

I hate bones in food. Having to selectively nibble around a chicken breast is stupid. And I hate having to deshell seafood when I'm hungry.

I don't appreciate feeling like a worker at a bench at a job just for a bite.

I'm made fun of for preferring boneless wings. "They're just chicken nuggets!" No, they're at least a step up, leave me alone.

The obnoxious process aside, the food is delicious, but I'll never order/request it.

DAE genuinely hate the taste of coffee, no matter what's mixed in?

Some people can't start their day without coffee, and that's fine. I'll just stay 50 feet away until you've had yours, lmao.

I've tried every combination of sugar, cream, milk, different flavours, you name it.

No matter what I add, I just can't get past the taste of coffee itself.

It's not even that I find it disgustingly bitter. I just genuinely dislike the flavour and have never understood the hype.

Anyone else feel the same way, or am I missing something that everyone else seems to love?

And no, Tim Hortons isn't the only place I've tried it, lol.

DAE help everyone with their pain but your own.

For example I am an 18 year old eldest daughter of five. My mom is an alcoholic and so is my father. I never had a parent to go to as I grew.
For some reason I am just wired to help EVERYONE with their pain but my own. I love to be there for people and I know I am really good at helping people. But when it comes to venting to people myself, I’ve never had someone who has reciprocated the same amount of care. I LOVE my friends and they try to be there for me. But I wish I could have someone who was their for me regardless without having to let them know I need a hug. Someone that just knows. My friends are the type that sit beside me in my pain. But a lot of the time sometimes they aren’t aware I am in pain. Or maybe sometimes they don’t voice it.
The thing with me is I don’t let anyone else see it on instinct.
Sometimes I have so many walls I genuinely don’t know how to break them down to help myself. People ask me how I’m doing, but I feel terrified. I don’t why I do this.
The second someone asks me if I’m okay I tense up and it’s like fight or flight. I’m not really sure how to break past being vulnerable and being able to fully let people know how I’m feeling. I have gotten better at it. But sometimes I’m prioritizing other people so much I’m afraid to tell them how they’ve hurt me or how I’m hurting without burdening them because I don’t want them to feel bad about themselves.

(Apologies if this is the wrong subreddit I was trying to put it on vent and it directed me here.)

DAE feel like breast cancer awareness is a thing of the past?

Throughout this whole month, I don’t think I’ve seen anything regarding breast cancer awareness. I mean it’s October, right? It’s felt this way for a few years now. It’s like I’m hearing less and less about it as the years go by. Maybe it’s just my algorithm or something, I don’t know.

Does anyone else use Reddit for personal growth and self-improvement and find it more helpful than anything else? I’ve learned a lot from hearing about other people’s experiences and perspectives. Thanks to everyone who takes the time to share their advice and help others grow! ❤️

DAE exclusively use Apple Pay for everything you buy?

If it’s ever something on my phone, it’s the easiest way to buy something cuz every online shopping app or whatever has Apple Pay. And all stores take it nowadays and even restaurants and fast food places. Even my windows laptop lets me do Apple Pay for purchases. It’s just way easier than using my actual card. I can’t remember the last time I’ve used a physical card to buy something, it always goes through Apple Pay.

DAE not have an internal monologue?

So, talking about this has become kind of an Internet thing. Basically, I don’t think it’s that big of a deal. But, I do think it fascinates people who do have an internal monologue to see people that don’t have one. For most of the day, I don’t have internal thoughts that are put together in words. When I do have time to myself, or if I’m thinking about a concept, I do have a little bit of an internal monologue that comes and goes. But, most of the day, I’m simply acting on instinct. I don’t really think deeply or get lost in thought unless I’m thinking about something specific. I’m capable of acting very impulsively and not putting a lot of thought behind my actions. When I talk, I generally don’t have the thought of my words before hand, they come to me as I’m saying them. I “feel” the words in a wordless thought before they come out of my mouth. There’s more I could say on this topic if there are any questions.

DAE always hold the run button in Mario games no matter what?

Every time I play any of the Mario platformers, I’m always running no matter what. Whenever I played with friends who were new to the game, I got frustrated that they were just walking without holding B or Y or 1 or whatever console’s respective run button. I even had to unlearn this muscle memory when Mario Odyssey came out in 2017, since that game has no dedicated run button (you just use the joystick, and Y throws Cappy)

I can never not run in Mario games.

DAE value financial gain less as they get older?

I’m in my mid-40s now and I’m noticing that earning more $$ is becoming less and less important, in spite of our nation’s current affordability crisis. I should preface all this by saying that my family is fairly comfortable. My wife is a teacher coming up on 25 years on the job and I own my own business. We have everything we need and a lot of things that we want. I am the father of a 3 year old as well, and she has lots of great clothes and toys, as well as fun experiences like dance and gymnastics. In my 30s I was hustling and building my business up, all with the goal of maximizing my earning potential in the long term. But now I find myself prioritizing free and family time, which causes my bottom line to suffer slightly. Is this common?

DAE feel extremely numb emotionally?

Life's been so hard and at this point I'm so used to all the struggles, with no one allowing me to safely undergo any stress response anytime a problem occurs, that I simply feel nothing when anything bad happens now. If something very very awful does happen, my reaction is only mild, for maybe 3 seconds, and then I become even more numb than before. Anyone else?

Like the other day I could hardly get enough breath, and quickly collapsed flat from weakness in the middle of a parking lot until I got enough energy to crawl to my feet. And then I laughed off the story when I told it to people, almost like it was a funny story about something as innocuous as a papercut. I still feel no genuine concern nor discomfort from the fact that I fell flat in a parking lot and could have gotten run over. Completely numb to all negative feelings

DAE think the front of the toilet bowl is actually dirtier than the seat? At least "SOME" people are inclined to give a quick wipe when they miss the seat.

When have YOU personally given a quick wipe to the front of the bowl? Sure, the seat is far from clean, but I submit the front of the bowl is dirtier and that filth is clinging to the back of your britches
