NOT WHAT YOU'RE EXPECTING You should join the legion

EDIT: after writing this. I was looking into joining and I learned that membership is free this year. Normally it's like $40 for a year long membership. It's the legions hundredth year so they're running this free membership campaign.

It's that special time of year when everyone pipes up with their opinions and disdain for the legion.

I just want to make a post to remind everyone that the Legion is a democratic institution and you can help to turn it into the thing it's supposed to be by joining it and voting for things that benefit the troops.

Yes, the legion currently sucks ass. Yes you might have to put up with shitty boomer Civis for a while but If we all join the legion, we will easily out number the cosplayers and the legion will once again be run by actual veterans.

We're in a position right now where we can run a chain of clubs across the country with a certain level of influence over public opinion on veterans affairs and a budget that can be used to really help the troops. If all we do is sit and gripe and complain at our computers about boomers pretending their dads valour from WWII is somehow inheritable then when those boomers die, the legion dies with them and we get nothing.

I'm gonna join the legion today. I hope you will too.

TAN prefix ?

Hello friends

Got loaded on a course. Need a TAN. Before they will give me a TAN, I need to obtain a flight itinerary quote from STS. To register with STS, I need a TAN prefix. I emailed course staff and was told to "follow joining instructions".

Can anyone help me understand where I get a TAN prefix? Joining instructions only say that to get a TAN I need a quote, but to get a quote I need a TAN prefix.....no one seems to want to explain what im missing.

Any help would be appreciated.

3B vs. 4A/5A release pension question

This is a simple and dumb question and I just want to make sure I understand it correctly. A 3B release entitles the releasing individual to an immediate pension indexed to inflation.

4A/5A entitles the releasing individual to an immediate non-indexed pension, correct?

Or is it more complex than that?

SUPPORT Short Term Lodging

Hi all,

I'm currently at Gagetown for my course, and I'd like my wife to visit for four days.

Someone told me there's a "hotel" on the base. Could you tell me which building it's in?

I went to D59 to ask how to book a room, and the staff member gave me a paper with this website: http://apps.forces.mil.ca/QQ/. Unfortunately, the link doesn't work.

Could anyone share a working link or another way to book a room?

Thanks!

Reserve- Reg CT/OT without DP1

I have heard rumours that it is very difficult to do CT/OT from reserve to reg force, without the member being OFP /DP1 qualified. This is regarding a student who went through the Co Op program, passed BMQ and SQ ( whatever they’re calling it these days) and now upon high school graduation wants to go reg force and combat engineer. They are currently part of a different combat arms reserve unit.
SO my question is- should they pursue CT/OT through their unit and BPSO *OR\* release entirely and reply for the reg force and trade they want

Personal kit (chest rig) with new CADPAT MT. Go all ranger green or coyote brown on ranger green?

I got a hold of an Agilite Reaper chest rig in ranger green (3 colors available) for a decent price & looking for thoughts on a 1 or 2 color setup for pouches/ placard (coyote or ranger green). This chest rig is personal kit I can also use for work. I’ve started out with a a few pieces as an example in the new common kit color many are using

Let me know what you think if 1 or 2 color works with the new CADPAT MT. The previous CADPAT looked good with brown, ranger green & OD green. This setup meets requirements for extra mags (placard holds 6) & utility pouches that can hold a C9/ SAW box or water.

I haven’t found many pics or content with this combo, but lots of Multicam on RG or coyote & coyote on MultiCam.

*Going with a chest rig instead of a plate carrier avoids some brewing BS over guys/ gals using Gucci plate carriers instead of the issued frag vest. If the CAF went with a modern US style body armour, less guys/ gals would go buy their own!

What's up with the Gagetown mess food?

It seems that most of my course mates and myself have regular diarrhea from eating this food. It's gotten to the point where a few have just stopped eating it all together and switched to cooking for themselves. I think I'll join them, it's inconvenient but so is trying to do PT with the current condition.

What gives? Its the same thing everytime I come here. A month of mess food and guts just quit. Go home for a weekend, everything is good to go.

edit: quick edit because I don't want people to lose morale; the food nails presentation, tastes good (sometimes there's a miss) but uh, it just doesn't come out right.

SUPPORT Can CAF members see a civilian dentist for a second opinion?

Hi,

Question: Can I visit my regular civilian dentist for a second opinion, even if I'm willing to pay out of pocket? Would I need authorization from CO/ULO?

I'm a newly enrolled CAF member looking for advice regarding dental care.

Shortly after enrolling, I had some dental work done through military dental services. Since then, I've been experiencing persistent headaches, jaw pain, and facial discomfort, which I wasn't experiencing before. I've also had a night guard fitted, which unfortunately made the pain significantly worse. Despite returning for adjustments, I haven't experienced any improvement. It's now been two months total.

I'ved had two consecutive appointments for the night guard fitting and adjustments, both lasting about 10 minutes. I appreciate having access to military dental care, but I feel little time has been spent properly examining my concerns. The appointments felt rushed, and I'm hesitant to return.

At this point, I'm experiencing almost daily headaches, pain around my eyes and tenderness across my face. Popping Tylenol daily. Pain used to be on one side now is in both.

I'm still living in the same city as my previous dentist, so accusing their services wouldn't be an issue.

Please any advice would be great! Thank you
