Build Help Is radeon 7900xtx still a good choice?

I need a graphics card that would have up to 24gb of VRAM (and yes I will use all of it). Should I just get the 7900xtx or wait for the 5080 super (assuming it comes) and pay a few pennies for it? The biggest problem is that it's getting harder to find the 7900xtx and it's getting older now and the drivers are probably questionable too. I have a budget of around 2000 bucks and will use it for gaming (located in USA) Thanks for advice!

Build Help 7800x3d or 9800x3d

Hello. im currently building a pc with an rtx 5070 ti and 180hz, 1440p monitor. and I've been stuck between these two ryzen CPUs. the 7800x3d and 9800x3d. my friend is telling me to go for the 9800x3d because its gonna be "overall", better. now i play alot of cyberpunk 2077, teardown, half sword and similar games. So, now im having a slight dilemma, do i pay 400-500 zl (polish currency) more for the 9800x3d or get the 7800x3d for way less? ive heard they're similar in performance but i wanna hear what u guys think.

Build Help I need to move my gaming PC between two apartments twice a week. Is building a portable micro-ATX desktop a terrible idea?

I'm planning a new gaming PC, but my situation is a little unusual and I'm wondering if I'm about to make an expensive mistake.

I split my week between my apartment and my partner's place. Both locations already have a monitor, keyboard, mouse, and desk, so I'd really like to have one desktop that I can take with me instead of buying a gaming laptop or building two separate computers.

It's about a 20-minute drive, and I'd probably move the PC twice a week.

I'm aiming for 1440p gaming, mostly Baldur's Gate 3, Path of Exile 2, Cyberpunk, and some multiplayer games.

My current plan is:

  • CPU: Ryzen 5 7600

  • Motherboard: B650 micro-ATX

  • RAM: 32GB DDR5

  • GPU: Radeon RX 9060 XT 16GB

  • Storage: 1TB NVMe SSD

  • PSU: Quality 650–750W unit

  • Cooling: Air cooler

  • Case: Jonsbo Z20 or something similarly compact

Budget is around $1,400–$1,700 USD, excluding peripherals.

The Jonsbo Z20 caught my attention because it supports micro-ATX boards and has a carrying handle. I like the idea of avoiding the extra cost of mini-ITX components.

But I'm worried about the long-term effects of regularly transporting a desktop.

Specifically:

  1. Is repeatedly moving a PC with a full-size GPU genuinely risky for the PCIe slot, even with a support bracket?

  2. Would an air cooler be safer than an AIO for a computer that gets transported regularly?

  3. Is there a practical reason to spend more on mini-ITX, or would compact micro-ATX accomplish basically the same thing?

  4. Would you trust a case with a tempered glass panel for this kind of use?

I wouldn't be throwing it around or checking it as luggage. It would be carefully transported in my car, ideally in a padded bag.

I'm perfectly happy to sacrifice RGB, aesthetics, or a little performance for something reliable.

Has anyone actually lived with a setup like this for a year or two? I'm particularly interested in whether the constant moving becomes annoying or causes problems that aren't obvious when you're planning the build.

I really want the flexibility of a desktop, but I'm trying to figure out whether I'm forcing the wrong tool to do the job.

Discussion Should I wait for Black Friday sales? (UK)

My gaming pc I bought around 10 years ago has finally given up on me. Looking to build a new one from scratch. Should I look to buy parts now or wait for Black Friday sales (if there are any)? Completely new to this world so unaware of seasonal changes in price etc..

Build Upgrade Advice for CPU Upgrade

• Upvotes

Looking to upgrade my CPU as it’s bottlenecking me. PC specs are as follows: Nvidia 3060Ti GPU, AMD Ryzen 5 3600 CPU, Corsair Vengance RAM 2x16GB, Sabrent 1TB SSD, ASUSTeK PRIME B450-PLUS motherboard AM4, MSI MPG A750GF PSU. Have already ordered a new cooler too. Curious as to if people feel the AMD 5800X3D is worth upgrading to at $490 CAD. My other choices include the AMD 5700X $290 CAD or the AMD 5600 $250 CAD. Are there any other CPUS I should consider or look into? Can’t afford to swap to AM5 either. TIA

Build Upgrade 3070 ti gang, what will you upgrade to? at 2560x1440

I am skipping this gen, i live in a shit 3rd world country in south america and i need my upgrades to last. a 5070 ti is almost 2 grand usd here and 5080 even more. Also amd is out of the question because nvidia has many features i prefer like nvidia inspector, unlimited shader cache size, dlss and more. i am gonna wait for rtx 6000 to see if they have decent specs for the price.

Build Upgrade 4070 to 5070ti - massive performance gain, but this card is HUGE. Maybe time for a new case?

I thought a 4070 was a good match for the 5700x3d, but it turns out I was leaving a lot of performance on the table. It seemed like I was more CPU limited, but clearly I was wrong.

Unfortunately, my case clearance is down to the millimeter and I just barely managed to squeeze this card in - I had to remove the fans and slide them in from the front of the case. On the bright side, at least I won't have to worry about the card sagging.

(I've been watching temps closely and so far the rad has not seen a performance hit from the middle section being a little blocked.)

Also had to buy a separate 12pin cable to clean up the mess from the pigtail - why is that not just a standard inclusion?

Full Build Req Brand new build! (Budget $1500)

Hello! My girlfriend is in the market for a computer and together we have saved up $1500 to make it happen.

The PC would be for gaming, all the standard games you can think of. I’d like it to be fairly future proof so future AAA titles won’t turn it into a hole in the ground. The major game I’d like it to run is Monster Hunter Wilds.

We’re not looking for amazing performance, just stable 60f at 1080p at high graphics.

16gb of ram is fine for now, specifically one stick of 16gb, it can be upgraded in the future.

I set the budget $500 higher than I paid for my computer over a year ago, because of the current state of things, but if the budget is overkill we can go under it or invest into 32gb.

We live in the United States, and do not need to factor in any peripherals.

Discussion Moving to Windows: Shut Down or Sleep

Hi, I recently switched from a Mac to a PC to play some great games. I have a question: when I’m running errands or going for a walk, which is better - shutting it down or putting it into sleep mode? I’m mainly concerned about whether it will hurt the machine.

I know it’s different, but on my Mac, I just put it in sleep mode.

What’s your best practice? Thanks so much !

Build Upgrade 5800x3d or i7 14700k for use with 4400 ddr 4

• Upvotes

So looking to upgrade my pc without breaking the bank. Currently have a 3070ti with a crappy i5 10600k and 32gb of 4400 ddr4 ram. Not really looking to jump into the new pc market because prices right now are just ridiculous. So i figure i could stretch my current build out by replacing the motherboard and cpu to the best cpu for ddr4. I only use my pc for gaming so im just wondering which one people think is better for gaming?

Build Help ARGB Controller Help

I will have a total of 11 fans in my Lian Li O11 Vision Compact case, 3 below the gpu 3 on the side holding the motherboard 3 on top in the AIO and 2 on the back IO panel. What't the best (and cheapest without getting something that doesn't work well) controller than has enough ports on it to individually control the argb fans led lights.

Troubleshooting New AM5 build randomly shuts off, then sometimes won't POST PSU, motherboard or BIOS issue?

Just finished my first PC build and I’m experiencing some strange intermittent issues.
Specs:
Ryzen 5 9600X (integrated graphics, no GPU yet)
MSI PRO B850-S WIFI6E
16GB Patriot DDR5-6000 (running at stock 4800 MT/s)
Corsair RM850e 850W PSU
Windows 11
The problem:
The PC initially POSTed immediately, installed Windows without issues, and ran normally for about an hour.
Today, it suddenly shut off completely, almost like someone pulled the power cord. When I tried turning it back on, the fans spun and RGB lit up, but there was no display or keyboard power. I had to disconnect the PSU from power before it would boot successfully.
Later, I entered BIOS without issues, but after exiting, I got another black screen with no keyboard power. Strangely, it eventually POSTed and booted into Windows on its own.
CPU temps are normal (42–46°C in BIOS), both RAM sticks are detected, and BIOS voltages look fine. BIOS version is E7E80AMS.2A40.
I haven’t installed the AMD chipset or iGPU drivers yet. I also have some worn/loose wall outlets, which could potentially explain the sudden shutdown, although I’m not sure they explain the POST issues.
Has anyone experienced similar behaviour on AM5? Does this sound like memory training, BIOS instability, a PSU protection issue, or potentially a faulty motherboard? What would you troubleshoot first?

Miscellaneous Case recommendations please

I am looking for case recommendations. Looking for an ATX Mid Tower that will also fit my 280mm AIO.

Preferably some fans included, but not a deal breaker if not.

On the topic of the AIO, its a Corsair H115i Platinum that is nearing 10 years old. Should I keep using it till it burns up, or would you recommend I just get a new cooler while I'm swapping cases?

Troubleshooting multiple pc issues, ram corruption and SSD instability, and boot issues

hey all, ive been banging my head against the wall for a while now so i thought id get some opinions before spending (even more) money ill just recap my issues ive had

b450-f motherboard, 3070 gpu, ryzen 9 5900x, 2 NVME SSDs 1TB brand new C: drive and a 2TB few year old D: drive

- PC originally didnt boot because bad ram corrupted my windows and was just showing a black screen after the bios screen and would stay stuck there, that ram kit has now been rma'd and im waiting for a return. had to get a fresh windows install on a new SSD i bought after that and its working (when its on) now.

- PC has i would say a 50% chance of booting when i start it, it just shows a solid green/amber "boot" light and stays on a black screen like it was doing before but sometimes it just turns on. ive done a mem86test on my remaining ram and it gave no errors.

i thought i was out of the woods after that but now ive got another error

- tried launching the pc port of uncharted franchise port through non-steam game on steam and it wouldnt start, tried downloading it again and realised i couldnt "access" one of the folders in my d: drive, tried scanning with CMD and got told my SSD was "raw", i then restarted my pc and it went back to normal. tried opening the game again and got the exact same result

after that i moved the game to my c drive to test and was able to get it open then and it had a update, i moved it back after that update and its working fine now which is weird, i checked event viewer and it spat out 2 stornvme errors 1 reading "Reset to device, \Device\RaidPort1, was issued." and the other reading "The driver detected a controller error on \Device\RaidPort1." before spitting out hundreds of "An error was detected on device \Device\Harddisk0\DR0 during a paging operation." errors until i restarted my pc. ive done a few tests on the SSD on crystaldisk and diskgenius and none of them say its unhealthy or even got any bad sectors.

i dont know much about computers except how to build them but im thinking its my motherboard now since its the only part that is quite old. i have ordered a new power supply since i was going to get a new one anyway so i will be putting that into my pc today when it arrives.

i also replaced my CMOS battery since its as old as the motherboard (2019~ same as the power supply)

any thoughts / follow up questions are greatly appreciated as i have certainly left details out since this has been going on for almost 2 weeks now. i just want it to be over and done with

Build Ready? First ever PC build for Warcraft Forever -1440p

This is my first ever PC build. The last time I owned a PC for gaming was about 2009, which was some Dell PC with a graphics card I bought for a few hundred dollars from Best Buy. I am building this primarily to play WoW - Forever on a 1440p 240hz monitor I have. Looking at pricing I know I can get better specs for a similar price for a pre-built, but I want to try and build a PC myself. I used a cpu bottleneck site to find a CPU/GPU pairing that would be great for WoW and settled on the 7800x3d and 9070. I went with the 9070 vs. 9070xt because WoW isn't as demanding as some modern titles, and it looks like the 9070 was more efficient / less heat. Everything else I picked with was seemed to have high ratings and fit in the selected Lian Li case.

Outside the CPU/GPU/Case selection, is there anything standing out that looks wrong? I am trying to keep this in the $2k ballpark.

Thanks for any advice anyone is willing to provide!

Troubleshooting "I can't overclock my RAM"

• Upvotes

Got a new PC, everything works great, excellent FPS, no overheating issues at all, but there’s one annoying problem. I simply cannot overclock my RAM no matter what I try. RAM: DDR4 8GB x2 Kingston Fury Motherboard: MSI Pro H610M-E CPU (just in case): Intel i5-13400F I'm not trying to push the memory to some crazy numbers; the real issue is that I can't even get it to run at its advertised baseline 3200 MHz frequency. At first, I enabled XMP—it didn't work. The motherboard would reboot 2-3 times, then throw an error and boot me back into the BIOS. Then I decided to do it manually in the BIOS: set the RAM voltage to 1.350V and manually entered the memory timings. That didn't work either. Of course, the FPS boost from 2666 MHz to 3200 MHz isn't massive and will only give a couple of percent, but I'm more worried about whether something is wrong with my RAM. Theoretically, the XMP profile at 3200 MHz should have just worked out of the box, but instead, I'm getting a ton of instability/errors. If anyone knows about this stuff, please help."

Troubleshooting Aorus B650 Elite AX WiFi Issues

• Upvotes

As described in the title, this is the motherboard I have. I got it last year when I upgraded my CPU and moved to DDR5. Straight to the point, every time I am done gaming I shut down fully. When I come back and power on my WiFi only works half the time. One half the time theres not even an option anywhere for WiFi settings, the other half the time it boots up and works just fine. It is getting a bit frustrating because when it doesnt work I to sometimes reboot my PC 2 or 3 times before the little WiFi symbol shows up on the sign in screen and works. I have attempted to update drivers many times and everything is up to date. Could this just be an unfortunate hardware issue with the board itself? Any help is appreciated, thanks!
