Politics So is Jim Risch saying he supports Oligarchy?
Sure feels like it from this series of pictures. Does Jim take Idaho voters to be a bunch of fools?

Just stopped in for a delicious lunch courtesy of Chan. Figured I would share since it's been mentioned here a few times recently. Homemade noodles is the way to go.

I heard from someone today that a smaller IKEA concept store will be moving into the empty Kohls anchor at the mall. Has anyone else heard this?
Also heard that Pottery Barn and Williams Sonoma are leaving for the village.

Looking to get a concrete patio poured in my backyard in Meridian. The total area is about 11' x 17' at most, and a small section already has concrete, so the new pour will be a bit less than that. The rest is currently just dirt, so it'll need excavation and base prep.
I was quoted around $4,500. Does that sound normal for this area right now, or is it on the high side?
For those who've done something similar: is it better to tie new concrete into an existing slab, or tear it out and pour the whole thing fresh? I'm trying to figure out which approach makes more sense in the long run before I commit.
Also, does anyone have recommendations for local concrete companies they've had a good experience with? Ideally someone who could get it done before it gets too cold, but I'm open to spring if that's the smarter move.
Thanks in advance!

I voted yes on proposition 1.
Last night when I was scrolling, the letter popped up from local doctors in Idaho that are urging people to vote NO on Proposition 1. Most of the doctors are not even related to OB care but there are still a few who signed onto that letter. Mine was one of them - Monika Fealko at women’s health associates.
Check your OBGYN’s. You deserve healthcare from someone who makes you feel safe. Thankfully there are far more doctors out there who signed the letter urging people to vote YES on Prop 1.
I'm in the Meridian/Boise area and looking for the best Chinese food around, whether that's a hole-in-the-wall or a sit-down place. I'd much rather try local spots than chains. What are your go-to places, and what dishes should I order? Thanks!

This lady and a few others are heckling students at BSU today. It really fucks with me how groups like this target students specifically.
Went to check it out today before it started raining. It's huge. 😀
To get there you head N on Glenwood (off of Chinden) and take a right on Backstretch. Parking lot is on the left at the end of the road.
Increasing police funds is the opposite of Defund, Disarm, and Reform. If they really need money that bad how about they sell their useless fucking APC and chill out on covering piggies in miltech cosplay.
This proposal would create a permanent tax increase for all homeowners to the tune of $30/$100k per year aiming for $5 million a year.
You want to raise our taxes? Put it to schools and social services.
My apologies for posting in the Boise sub, we all know the valley just uses this one.

I’m looking for recommendations for an Idaho-licensed family law attorney in the Boise area.
I need someone specifically experienced with contested child custody cases.
What I am hoping to find:
Strategic and thorough, not just reactive.
Organized and communicative.
Someone who returns calls and emails, and keeps deadlines and paperwork straight.
Trustworthy and straightforward about options and realistic outcomes.
Open to remote consultations.
I am not looking for a lawyer to be a therapist.
This is my first time dealing with the court system.
What I value most is someone who will be direct and honest with me. Even when the answer is not what I want to hear. And someone who will explain the process clearly at each step.
Including what to expect, what could go wrong, and what decisions are actually mine to make.
If you have worked with someone who fits that description, I would really appreciate the name and what made them stand out for you. Especially around communication and preparation, not just the result.
Feel free to DM me if you would rather not post publicly.
Thank you.

Following up on the earlier discussion in r/Boise about the alleged rape near the Boise River Greenbelt.
On October 10, Boise State University issued a campus safety alert about an alleged rape near the Boise River Greenbelt. According to the initial warning, a woman had been attacked outdoors by an unknown white man in his 30s, with long blond hair and tattoos on his arms. She reportedly fought him off before he fled. The university circulated the suspect description, warning students about the alleged attack.
But the story took an unexpected turn. Boise Police subsequently announced that the original information was inaccurate. Investigators said the reported incident actually took place inside student housing, not outdoors near the Greenbelt, and that they were not searching for an unknown attacker. The original suspect description was also deemed inaccurate.
Now, Boise State’s official crime log lists the investigation (case #615142) as INACTIVE, with no publicly reported arrests or charges. Police have not publicly established that a rape occurred, but they also have not declared the allegation false. That leaves some unanswered questions: Where did the detailed description of the mysterious blond stranger come from? Why did the location change so dramatically? And what caused the investigation to become inactive?

Flying into Boise/Meridian December 7th for a work event. Leaving Friday afternoon.
I have been to Boise a few times now and have been blown away with some of the spots around the area. Barbacoa, The Wylder to name a few. Holes in the wall like Fiesta Chicken that i found here on reddit that i put locals onto because its so good.
I will drink Fry sauce by the bottle (FYI)
What i need from y'all is places like that, doesn't have to be high end, just needs to be somethin only you find in Boise area. Places that blow your doors off and make you crave it and its only available at that spot. Not picky just want something awesome.
My taste buds thank you.

Had a pretty strange experience fishing the north fork Payette today and figured I'd see if anyone familiar with the area could offer some insight or a reality check.
I was fishing above Smiths Ferry, near where Highway 55 splits away from the river and the old railroad tracks continue upstream. Parked at a small pullout with no other cars around and headed down to the river.
There was a guy fishing near where I wanted to start, so I asked if he was working upstream or downstream. We had a brief, seemingly normal conversation, and I fished a little ways below him. After about 10 minutes I decided to move on. As I was walking back toward my car, I noticed the guy watching me in a way that felt a little off. He eventually struck up another conversation and suggested I follow the railroad tracks about a mile upstream for better fly fishing.
So I grabbed some more gear from my car and started hiking up the tracks. Passed the guy again, who was now sitting beside the tracks with a large backpack and another fishing rod. I thought it was a little odd since I hadn't seen another vehicle anywhere around, but whatever.
About a quarter mile farther up, I encountered a woman walking toward me with a large backpack. I said hey as we passed, and something about the interaction just felt strange. Hard to explain, but her demeanor was unusual enough that I turned around to look back a few seconds later. There was maybe 100 feet between us, and I actually watched her turn around and start walking back in my direction, following me up the tracks.
That really got my attention.
I continued to a railroad bridge and climbed down to fish the river, keeping the tracks in view. The woman eventually reached the bridge and sat down on the opposite side of the tracks, facing away from me. She stayed there the entire time I was fishing that section. Eventually I moved farther upstream along the river, and at one point looked back and saw her talking to another person who had appeared near the bridge. Later, I could hear people talking somewhere along the tracks, although I couldn't see them.
By that point I was pretty uncomfortable, so I decided not to stay out until dark. Hiked back along the tracks around 5:30, didn't encounter anyone else, and made it back to my car without incident.
Here's what I found particularly strange: I couldn't figure out where any of these people had come from. I didn't see any other vehicles, campgrounds, trailheads, or obvious access points. Looking at a map afterward, there doesn't seem to be much of anything along that stretch for miles. Both the fisherman and the woman had large backpacks, and both interactions felt oddly unnatural. Then there was the woman reversing direction immediately after passing me.
For context, I spend a lot of time alone in pretty remote places, fishing, hiking, and camping. I'm comfortable in the woods and generally pretty good at reading people and picking up on social cues. I've encountered plenty of unusual characters out there, but I've never had a situation set off my alarm bells quite like this.
I'm also fully aware that I could be connecting unrelated events in my head. Maybe these were just people camping somewhere along the railroad, and I misread the whole situation. I'm not trying to suggest anyone was necessarily up to something nefarious.
But the whole experience was fucking weird, and I couldn't shake the feeling that something wasn't quite right.
Anyone familiar with that stretch of the Payette or the old railroad corridor? Is there dispersed camping or some other access I'm overlooking? Anyone ever encountered anything unusual out there? Mostly just looking for some local insight and a sanity check.
