As the title suggest I’ve planted 2 honey berry plants about 2 months ago and they have barley grown and all the leaves died. They are still alive. Any advice would be appreciated.

Purple Flowering Raspberry & Blackberry Seedlings | Looking for some Advice

Thumbnail

WARNING: This post is a jumbled mess. Plants 1-3 are Purple Flowering Raspberries, Plants 4-5 are Blackberries

The PFRs are approaching (if not already) 3 months, and the blackberries are basically 5 months old or so now. I’ve gotten to a point where they’re doing better than every seedling I’ve had in the past, and now I’m a teensy bit stuck. Also don’t mind the soil, they’re getting watered today.

So, I was a little impulsive when I germinated these seeds, and by the time they were big enough to be potentially introduced to the outdoors, I think it’s getting to be a bit too cold (I’m in zone 7b, nights are dipping into the 50s and 40s) for them. I’m sure they COULD hypothetically go out, but I don’t want to get them used to the outdoors, just to bring them in when the cold REALLY hits, especially since my forgetful behind will let them get killed somehow. I want to wait until after the final frost to start acclimating them.

However, while they’re inside for the winter, I’m wondering if there’s anything else I should be doing. I haven’t really fertilized them all too often, especially recently since it’s only been 20ish days since the last repot. When I do, I use the Neptune’s Harvest Fish & Seaweed stuff, diluted. I feel like I could/should be doing some pruning? All of the seedlings, save for one, only has their one upward stem, I haven’t seen any for real branching off. I’m hesitant to head any of them, though, lest I just kill them.

I have noticed that 3 of the Purple Flowering Raspberries, and 1 of the Blackberries, have teeny little buds closer to the base of their stems. I’m not sure if I should do anything with them, or just let them do their things.

Also, has there been any intel on what species/kind of blackberries are sold commercially? The blackberries both came from the same package/brand (The exact brand I don’t remember), yet plant 4 is more compact/generally upright (it’s also the one with the buds), and plant 5 almost looks like it’s trying to trail? Or arch? It’s odd. They’re all under the same grow light, in fact, plants 4 and 5 are directly next to each other. Plant 5 is arching almost away from the light. Just a little odd. Also there’s a volunteer Woodsorrel growing with plant 4, which is neat

Tl;Dr: What’s the best course of action from here? I never expected to get to this point lol. What would be the best time to fertilize and/or prune? I aim to have these plants in some kind of garden bed in our yard. Some have buds, one has a sprout at the base, one’s trying to trail from the looks of it

Mostly just want opinions from people who have them if they’re really worth growing as something to eat.

From a tree nearby. It's loaded with sweet mulberries. I'll check in next week for more and leave the rest for other people who pick some on their way to work.

Interlocking dust on plants

I'm getting my driveway and backyard done with interlocking stones and there is a layer of dust on my raspberry leaves when the workers cut the bricks.

Is the brick dust harmful? Anything I should do to get rid of it or leave it for the rain? There's currently a layer of mulch in the garden bed right now.

1st Year Prime Ark Freedom - Winter Treatment? (9A)

I bought one of these as a lil guy a few months ago, put it in a 7 gal fabric bag under full sun and it has exploded.

My question is that with it being in a fabric grow-bag, should I move it in over the winter, put it in the ground NOW & leave it outside over winter, or? I do plan to move it in the ground next spring, but this was a funky year with garden plot lay-out so it didn’t happen.

I do have an indoor grow tent for other veggie starts but I usually don’t crank it up until Jan 1.

If I missed any pertinent info, my apologies.

Cranberries: a secret stash :)

They are still quite pale, but I don't see how they can get proper colour while buried deep under such a dense foliage.

You wouldn't guess there were any berries here at all if you were just passing by :)

What’s this thorny berry vine in my yard? Zone 7A SW, Missouri

Hi all! Had a mystery plant pop up in the spring that now has dark purple berry clusters all over.
Hard to discern one plant from another so there may be multiple growing together here. Berries are roughly pea-sized with a variety of thorns on a super flexible vine with teardrop/heart shaped leaves with deep vertical veins.
Thanks in advance for your help!

Just noticed these berries growing in my yard and wondering what they are and if they are edible. I live in CT if that helps with identification. Thanks!

The Strawberry I Love: Its French Roots and Brilliant Red Color

The modern garden strawberry is a hybrid and its scientific name is Fragaria × ananassa. The multiplication sign in its name indicates that it is a hybrid, meaning it originated from a cross between two different species.

Two important wild strawberry species contributed to its development:

  • Fragaria virginiana — commonly called the Virginia strawberry, native to North America.
  • Fragaria chiloensis — commonly called the Chilean strawberry, native to the Americas, including Chile.

A French botanist Antoine Nicolas Duchesne has carefully studied strawberries and documented their characteristics. In 1766, he published Histoire naturelle des fraisiers, a major work on strawberry plants. He identified the hybrid origin of the modern garden strawberry, helping explain the relationship between its two American ancestors. A modern scientific review describes the early plants as “spontaneous hybrids.” In simple words, this means the plants crossed naturally in cultivation rather than necessarily being created by a deliberate experiment.
