Did you find a bat in trouble? Info to help here.

Here is an instructional guide for someone who has found a bat. And here is some info about bats in buildings. If you find a bat in trouble, please call a rehabber for help. Here is a list of rehabbers that help bats all over the world, and here is a portal for rehabbers in the US.

Remember that wildlife should never be handled with bare hands!

Did you recently find a bat on the side of a building? Or a tree?

Or on your window? Or in some other place where you don't normally see bats? This time of year (in the northern hemisphere) bats are migrating. While they're on the move, they have to find temporary places to sleep and often make their selections based on convenience. If you see a bat hanging in a strange spot, it's not necessarily in trouble. It may even stay for a few days while it rests and figures things out. Just give it some space and enjoy being graced by the presence of a sky-kitten (microbats are sky-kittens, megabats are sky-puppers, just trust me).

Same Trail, Same Dusk: Do Bats Recognize a Regular Cyclist, or Am I Just Background Noise?

I ride the same trail most evenings and there's this one spot where bats come out right at dusk. Same tree line, same timing, every time. Started wondering if they recognize me or the bike at all, or if they just react to movement and bugs. They swoop close but never collide, which always impresses me.

I work long hours building a startup so my schedule's pretty rigid. I usually hit that trail at the exact same time. Maybe that consistency makes me a predictable part of their environment. I read recently that some bats have strong site fidelity and return to the same roosts and feeding spots year after year. Makes me curious if they also register individual humans as familiar, or if we're just background noise to them.

I imagine they're focused on insects and obstacles rather than cyclists, but it's hard not to feel like there's some awareness there. Anyone here spend enough time around a consistent bat population to notice if behavior shifts around familiar people? Not talking about taming them or anything. Just curious whether repeated harmless exposure changes anything from their side, or if I'm just another large shape moving through.

I had so much fun. I definitely would love to be a caretaker for these little babies.

I’m definitely going here again next year. I would recommend going if you haven’t already!

Edit: It flew away after staying for a day and half.

Hello!

Location: Maharashtra, India.

We found this little one sitting on our balcony this morning. It was just lying there first. But when sun started rising it hung itself upside down. We gave it some shade by hanging a cloth horizontally above it at some distance.

I've seen bats this size flying sometimes. So i thought this one will go away to get food by evening but it hasn't moved. It's 11:30 PM right now.

So idk is it still too small to go get food on its own? Im not sure if I should try to help. Should I provide some food? What food?

Should I bring it inside home?

Couldn't take a better picture as it's facing the wall. It's around 4 inches measuring from feet to ears as you can see in the image.

Looking for Bat Books/Ref Guides!

Hi all! I’m a sculptor who’s very interested in bats and learning about them before I sculpt! I’m wondering if there’s any guides similar to birding guides (my favorites are Sibley or Peterson) about multiple bat species?! I love detailed pictures and learning small nuanced things about species!

Looking for any reference and learning material suggestions :)

Included a little two headed bat I made a few years back :)
