android root
What can I do with an old rooted phone? I have a Redmi Note 8T stored away and I want to repair it to change the ROM I want to root my device, but I want to know what I can do with root access besides the basics.

To be honest, there is not much gain by having a rooted phone for the average user. Most banking apps does not work, easier to be hacked. I did root my phones about 10 years ago to be able to move files to SD card, control wifi and network - but the storages got bigger and controls more user friendly.
If you do not use it for banking, security, online shopping, social media than it can be a media player, a camera, an audio player - or an e-book reader.

I'm thinking of buying a Google Pixel XL to use as a server, because of the unlimited storage and the ability to upload things to the cloud.

Root allows you to see appdata folders and have more control over the phone hardware e.g. forcing it to act as a router even if the stock ROM doesn't have that functionality. You can search for 'root' on F-Droid to see a bunch of applications that can use root.

Please excuse my bad English; I actually speak Spanish, that's why I'm just trying to communicate with you.
