Please use this thread to ask any random questions you have that may not warrant their own posts, or if you want opinions on something non-ASU related (as long as its SFW).

All Sun Devil Rewards answers and key words will need to be kept within this weekly discussions post as to not overwhelm the sub.

Please feel free to use this thread for any housing needs/inquires/concerns as well!

Since this thread is likely to fill up quickly, consider sorting the comments by "new" (instead of "best" or "top") to see the newest activity.

AI grading

Does anyone know if professors have to tell us if they’re using AI to grade? I’ve gotten some very ChatGPT sounding feedback but it doesn’t state in the syllabus that the professor is using AI…

Can leaving at the end of class get me in trouble?

My professor always goes over time in one of my classes and in his syllabus it says if we walk out in the middle of class our attendance won’t count, but he goes over the set time of class. So if I walked out while he was still lecturing but the end time has passed, can I get in trouble?

ASU shuttle driver just floored when a guy was putting his bike on the rack??

Just saw something wild at the light rail stop. A guy put his bike on the rack at the back of the shuttle, and as the driver was about to start to pull away he knocked on the door to get on. Instead of stopping, the driver floored it and laid on the horn loudly the whole way out.

Is it just me or are the ASU shuttle drivers super aggressive lately? This isn’t the first time I’ve seen one be rude to riders, but this was next level.

Anyone down to hit the Downtown Phoenix campus gym together?
I’ve been wanting to start going regularly, but honestly I’d rather have some company than work out alone 😂. Nothing super serious just looking for someone to work out with, stay consistent, and make the gym less boring.
If you’re at the Downtown campus and interested, hmu!

Any Advice?

I’m starting ASU Online next year, any advice for things I should know or have? I’m not sure what to expect, and I won’t be on campus, I’m in another state.

Edit: My major is in Forensic Science - Death Investigations, yes I already have all the advice I need for the labs I have to do but thanks :)

Supply chain management majors

Hey SCM people at asu! I was thinking of switching over to SCM. I just had a question, how much are you making now? How easy was it for you to find a job? Were internships easy to get into? How did asu leverage your success in the job market for SCM? I’m trying to work a Fortune 500 company with enough hard work, so your insight would really help

Has anyone else's loan been on "loan processing" since a couple weeks ago? The tuition deadline is today, and I haven't received my loan to pay it off. I also haven't gotten the online opportunity scholarship that I was promised so idk what to do.

I cannot stand Harmonize!!!!

Does anyone else have problems with it?? I swear more than once I have typed up a post or comment and as soon as I click publish it gets deleted. Or reloads back to its “last auto save” where I maybe typed 5 words. I normally use Firefox but have also tried Chrome and it does the same thing.

I started typing my posts/comments in word then just copy paste over to Harmonize. But my dumbass went a few minutes without remembering how shitty Harmonize is and I just lost a well thought out post because of the stupid auto-save, delete-everything-you-just-typed shit that Harmonize keeps doing to me.

Best cultural clubs to join at ASU?

I want to get out of my comfort zone and explore different cultures at ASU and meet some new people! Does anyone have any recommendations on which cultural clubs are fun, welcoming, and wholesome to join based on your experiences, and ones to avoid (like the overly cliquey ones)?

ASU Global Career Accelerator

Hello, I was doing some light research and looking around in the subreddits and I was curious to know if any engineering majors have done this Global Career Accelerator class.

Was it at all helpful, and if it was in what ways was it helpful?

Did taking this class make it easier for anyone to get internships/engineering jobs?

I’ve seen people saying that if you’re already full time it won’t cost anything. Is this true? If you had to pay for this class how much did it cost?

For anyone who took it, could you put this on your resume and talk about it as if it were a true internship (like how it’s being advertised) or is it more like skills you acquired?

I haven’t spoken to an advisor yet. Apologies if a lot of these questions were already answered, however I am really curious to know the experiences of engineering majors specifically with this Global Career Accelerator class.

Has anyone successfully gotten special admission into ASU’s Computer Science BS program with a low transfer GPA?

Hi everyone, I’m currently a Computer Science BA student at ASU, but I’ve been trying to switch to the BS program.
My biggest issue is the GPA requirement. My ASU GPA is above the minimum, but my combined GPA is below 2.75 because ASU includes all my previous community college attempts, even classes I eventually retook and passed.
I’ve improved a lot academically since transferring, so it’s frustrating knowing that my older grades are still affecting my chances.
I’m also working on completing Calculus II, which is another requirement for switching.
I’ve heard there may be a special admission or petition process, but I’m not sure how realistic my chances are.
Has anyone been accepted into the CS BS program through special admission despite not meeting the combined GPA requirement? Did ASU consider your academic improvement or current ASU GPA?
I’m honestly pretty worried about my situation and would appreciate any advice or experiences. Thanks!

How is ASU Life in 2026?

I'm currently planning to attend Arizona State University (ASU) in the spring of 2028, or possibly sooner. I intend to pursue a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering while participating in Army ROTC, with the goal of commissioning into the Arizona Army National Guard.

I have a few questions for current ASU students and Army ROTC cadets.

For Mechanical Engineering Students:

  1. What is life like as a mechanical engineering student at ASU? What are the classes and overall workload like? How are the professors, and how supportive are they of their students?
  2. How transferable is a mechanical engineering degree from ASU to the aerospace and aviation industries? For someone interested in working at companies such as Northrop Grumman, Lockheed Martin, Boeing, or Honeywell Aerospace, does ASU's mechanical engineering program provide a strong foundation for entering these fields? Are there specific electives, research opportunities, internships, or engineering projects you would recommend to better prepare for a career in aerospace?

For Current Army ROTC Cadets:

  1. What is the Army ROTC experience like at ASU? How are the military science professors and cadre? Are there any prior-service cadets in the program, and if so, how has their experience been?
  2. For prior-service cadets, how does your previous military experience affect your ROTC experience? Does the cadre take your prior service into consideration when assigning leadership responsibilities, and how well does the program accommodate students pursuing demanding STEM degrees?

I'd appreciate any insight or advice from current students, ROTC cadets, or alumni. Thank you!

Linux with Honorlock: Yes, it does.

So I've been going back and forth and struggling with Linux and Honorlock and various professors in the administration and the disability accommodations office and pretty much everybody else under the Sun regarding the fact that Windows required me to turn off my accessibility settings in order to be able to use Honorlock, since the QR code wouldn't scan with reversed colors which I need because of a visual disability. Also I hate windows and don't think that restructuring my entire operating system or even dual booting should be a requirement for me to be able to take a fucking quiz.

So I figured it out. It actually does not seem to run under Chrome and Linux. I use Vivaldi and that's what I got to work with. I recommend switching anyway. Basically and go to the web page, do all the things you're supposed to do (Canvas lms via browser). The problem comes when it's asking about the microphone and the camera which it cannot detect in Linux for some reason unless you grant the web page permission in advance to always use the camera and the microphone.

So you go in to your Vivaldi settings and the part where permissions for websites are and you type in not just canvas.asu.edu but also app.honorlock.whatever it is. Make sure to always allow. This probably also works on Chrome but I hate Chrome so I use Vivaldi. neither of which is supposed to be possible according to honorlock themselves but this just proves what an absolute piece of trash software it is and what an absolute piece of trash company it is that created it because they don't even know how to get their own shit running on a perfectly normal operating system.

Go and do your verification and your webcam setup if required for the side view and all is well.

I built a free tool that DMs you when a seat opens in a full class

Thumbnail

Hi all, I’m a CSE student, and refreshing for open seats every registration season got old, so I built Seatseer (mods approved this post).

How it works:

  1. Sign in with your ASU email (link or code, no password).
  2. Add up to 5 class sections by course or class number.
  3. Connect Discord. When a seat opens, you get a DM with the class number and a Register button.

Things to know:

  • It’s free, with no ads.
  • It doesn’t register you; you still enroll yourself, so act fast.
  • It only stores your ASU email, Discord username, and the sections you pick. You can delete your account anytime.
  • It isn’t affiliated with ASU.
  • I had help from Claude on the trickier parts of the code, but the idea, design, and testing are mine, and I run it myself.

Link: https://seatseer.iammanmeet.com

Feedback and bug reports are welcome: comment here or email [hello@seatseer.iammanmeet.com](mailto:hello@seatseer.iammanmeet.com).

I need more friends. I usually just hang with my partner but he’s outta town next weekend. I’m gay and want to go to like Charlie’s and wherever else. I’m also 26 so not typical senior age.
