Studying

• Upvotes

Since I want to go USAFA I think it makes sense to come on here and just ask for some advice on studying. I have a lot of AP classes and recently been feeling super overwhelmed studying especially physics (I will also be posting a post there), with this increased stress I feel like I am studying wrong and with this increased course load.

I currently use AI a lot to give him review questions to produce more questions like ones that my teacher gives me and then try and learn if I get something wrong.

Does anyone have any tips on studying?

How likely am I to get into summer siminar

• Upvotes

I am a junior with a 4.0 weighted gpa. 29 math 27 science 21 English 26 English act. I am taking ap physics, ap Lang and comp, ap Gov, ap phychology, ap pre-calc, pre ap chemistry and Spanish 2. I did wrestling my freshman and sophomore year possibly this year. Football freshman year. That is what I have right now but was possibly going to do the rotary exchange program for a year so would be apart of that and be able to say I took my senior year in another country like Japan or Taiwan or something.

Prep School Question...

Aprox 250 people each year who don't get admitted to the USAFA get asked to come to their one year prep school.

The prep school has about a 85% rate of their grads getting admitted into the USAFA directly afterwards. Same with USNA.

I know a new congressional nomination is required to reapply to the Academies, but the 85% success rate seems kind of.... high. Is there an almost guaranteed congressional nomination given to prep school grads?

Requirement percentages

I just have a random question on how much each requirement matters in regards to getting accepted. (For example, would academics be around 40% of the deciding factor while physical fitness might be around 10% of what matters). Idrk how much this makes sense but any info would be appreciated.

How much does leaving a sport hurt

I would say that I have a decently strong application:
4.7 GPA (3.8 unweighted)
2 year var wrestling
1500 sat
CySA+ ceritfgied, A+ certified, network+ certified
3 year student government at a high profile trinity league school
national commendation for PSAT
built my own B2B SaaS application (doughtally.app)

started my own website development firm
certified lifeguard
bjj blue belt/bjj coach
Veterans club leadership

However my worry is the fact that i left wrestling due to an injury (I dislocated my shoudler and I believed the risk was too high) im aware of the medical process as well, I just want to know if that hurts my profile for admissions *just because i quit. (all of the technical stuff i did was right after i quit wrestling to focus, also thats when i became a bjj coach as well). How would my chances of getting into USAFA summer seminar and USAFA itself look like? Is there anything I have to work on that would make or break my chances?

LEAD Acceptance Tips as Prior E and Chances

Hello,

I've been at my current duty station for 16 months. I did not consider the Air Force Academy until this year, otherwise I would've applied last year. I am 21 (June 2005), so I only have one shot for direct entry. Anyways here is a background. Please tell me how I can improve and what I can expect with what I have.

Academics:

High School - 2.879 GPA (Weighted) 41%

CLEPS - Principles of Management & College Comp

SAT - 1320 (Taking again in Nov)

*Note that I was not a great high school student due to my lack of discipline or drive for my career. Since joining the Air Force, however, I've been mentored into someone with discipline and determination. Not to sound like a cornball or anything but I am definitely a different person now than I was. I am trying to center my application around the fact that I am capable to take on an academic challenge. Please lmk what I can do to drive this point home.

CFA results:

Basketball Throw: 79 feet

Pullups: 18

Shuttle Run: 8.7 seconds

Modified Crunches: 87

Pushups: 67

Mile Run: 7:23

Extracurriculars and Achievements:

Highschool:

4 years JROTC (last two years held leadership positions)

Private Pilots License

Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Cert

Adobe Premiere Professional Cert

2 years wrestling

2 years golf

4 years of school broadcast club (the leadership aspect is that I was a set director many times)

Enlisted:

Airman of the Month of May

Physical Fitness Leader for my Squadron

39 Volunteers Hours

Miscellaneous:

Currently trying for congressional Nomination (Submitted package, waiting to hear back)

Three pretty good letters of recommendation (Everyone I've talked to says they're pretty good anyways)

I've secured commander approval.

My package is almost complete. It will be submitted by December 1st.

If Academy doesn't work out, I plan on applying to the SOAR program next year after getting my CCAF. Nothing can really stop my motivation to commission... XD If you have any tips for that too I'd be very grateful.

Thanks!

Looking to become pilot, question about color test

So I'm looking to join the USAFA through the LEAD program through active duty Air Force. I want to become a pilot but I did fail the Isihara plate test. I believe my color vision deficiency is extremely mild and could pass the secondary test for the rabin cct.

Does anyone who know for a fact how this process work, can tell me if you pass the rabin cct test it will let you in through the pilot program, considering you failed the initial medical screening for the isihara plates? Thanks.

How qualified of a candidate am I?

I am a 17 y/o male with a 4.00 weighted GPA and a 1470 SAT. My class rank isn't anything amazing (top 20%), but I go to one of the top high schools in my city and state. I have my private pilots license, I'm a Boys State alum, I'm a 3-year Young Men's Service League member, I am also the varsity golf captain at my school. I volunteer at my local EAA chapter where I received my flight scholarship. My CFA stats are as follows: 74 ft bball throw, 9 pull ups, 9.2 sec shuttle run, 68 sit ups, 44 push ups, and a 6:28 min mile. I have 20/20 vision, no allergies, and am on no meds. How good of a candidate am I?

CFA Help

So I am a 17 y/o male and didnt start my USAFA application until early September, and now I am getting to the point where I am nearing the point where I have to take my CFA.

I feel pretty unprepared. I am going through training rn but it feels like I need to take it sooner rather than later ya know? I don’t want to wait too long where a retake isn’t possible

1 Mile run: IDK, my guess is 7 mins
Shuttle Run: 11.88 sec
Basketball throw: 60 feet
Pull-ups: 4
Pushups: 30
Sit-ups: 40

Should I just take it asap so I have time for a retake?

And honestly I don’t know who to contact to be my exam proctor because I stopped playing sports sophomore year (I regret it tremendously) so I don’t have tons of contacts with coaches. My school also doesn’t have a PE coach let alone a class.

Thank you guys

Whats the most heartbreaking loss you’ve witnessed as a Air Force football fan?

I’m doing a series where I ask all 136 FBS subreddits on what their most heartbreaking loss they witnessed. This loss could’ve been witnessed from the TV or while attending the game doesn’t matter.

If I guess for Air Force, 1985 vs BYU.Air Force could’ve actually been in the national championship conversation that year had they beat the Cougars, 2023 vs Army coming in ranked 17th in the nation and lost by 20 to a 2-6 Army team, and 2015 MWC championship vs SDSU.

How Bad is it Looking for Acceptance

I am a High School Junior Right now with a 2.63 Cumulative HS GPA Weighted. I am class president, in the Yearbook club, and am an FBLA state champion. I am in Civil Air Patrol working on my Mitchell Milestone and am starting to take dual enrollment (semester GPA is 3.95). Currently I’m volunteering heavily giving 15 hours a week to my local food banks and am in a karate school where I am a black belt. I have not taken the SAT yet and got a 1500 on the PSAT in 10th grade.

Are my grades too low to get in or even be considered and is there anything at this point I can do about it?

What's My Rank Again video (2000)

Class of 2004 did an epic cover of "Whats my age again" titled "Whats my rank again" in 2000 or maybe 2001. It was such a good rendition that we even had an official performance during the noon meal at Mitches one time before Recognition. I want to say the cadet who wrote and recorded it was named Tom something. I can still remember parts of the music video

"....and that's about the time he started breaking meeeee..."

I would love to re-visit that experience but I can't find the video anywhere! Any grads got a link?

Mid LoR vs. no LoR

I’ve only used one of the optional letters of recommendation. I could use the other by getting someone from my CAP squadron to do it, but I honestly don’t feel like I have a great relationship with anyone there, and I haven’t really done much notable in CAP outside of getting my Mitchell. My question is: should I get another mediocre/generic letter, or is it okay to just leave it blank.

For frame of reference, I have 1420 SAT, 4.0 GPA, multiple varsity letters, etc. so I’m a solid candidate but I’m definitely not a lock.

Failing CFA (female)

I’m taking my CFA w/ my JROTC instructor in a few days. I know that I should aim for my best, but does anyone know like the baseline numbers I can get as a female in order to pass my CFA? I’m aware that USAFA does not publish baselines and only gives max and averages, but even some scores from other ladies who have taken the CFA that were maybe lower/who expected to fail but passed would be greatly appreciated!

Also is the CFA scored passed/failed based on the cumulative results or is it based on individual results (if I’m low scoring in every category but just barely passing, would that be accepted?)

I know I’m probably not looking at this the right way, but time is running thin for my application to be submitted and I’m not confident 🤷‍♀️

Am I dq'ed from usafa

Basically my resume is cracked; near perfect cfa, course rigor so high im taking mainly senior in uni level courses with a few graduate level ones for physics and comp sci between now and next semester, 1600 sat, eagle scout + other relevant leadership/athletic ecs blah blah u get the idea.

The caveat is i have adhd and take adderall, now with that said is there even the slightest chance in hell i get a waiver or dont get flunk on the medical exam for this years applications. From what im seeing online its a pretty hard either washout for a minimum of 15 months or go fuck yourself. Is that about accurate?

Can I still get an LOA?

I received an LOA from West Point, but after thinking more about my long-term goals, I feel like the Naval Academy or Air Force Academy might be a better fit for me, since I want to become a fixed-wing pilot. I still need to get my interview for USAFA done, but the interviewer is not responding.

The problem is that my congressional nomination applications are due October 29, and I can only select one academy for my representative's nomination application. I submitted my Naval Academy application about four days ago, and the only thing missing is an LOA.

Is there still a realistic chance I could receive a Naval Academy or USAFA LOA before the nomination deadline? I also applied to USAFA and recently received a letter of interest from them.

I'm trying to figure out the best strategy. Should I select West Point for my representative's nomination since I already have an LOA, then try to get nominations for USNA and USAFA through my two senators? Or should I take the risk and prioritize USNA or USAFA for my representative's nomination, even though I don't have an LOA from either yet?

My main goal is to attend a service academy, but I also want to choose the one that best fits my career goals. Any advice from people familiar with the nomination and admissions process would be appreciated.

What do you guys even do?

For context, I am a Soldier that was stationed at Fort Carson for about three years. I would always drive by the academy going to Denver on the weekend. I remember driving by it again when I PCSd. I’ve always been curious what was going on there. Is it like basic training for four years?

Hey everyone! Does anyone know if international applicants are allowed to retake USAFA’s Candidate Fitness Assessment (CFA) if they don’t perform well on their first attempt? Would really appreciate any insight. Thanks!

General Ed changes?

Can anyone help with information about changes to the gen ed requirements that would affect C31? I know C30 isn't allowed to declare majors, and they are saying there will be huge changes coming. Maybe fewer or different majors?
