Mod Post r/OSU is looking for new moderators

Hey Buckeyes,

As r/OSU continues to grow, the mod team needs additional help. Over the last year, the community has grown by thousands of users, and the amount of posts and comments has gone up as well.

What are we looking for?

We're looking for someone who:

  1. Has a history of positive and helpful interactions in r/OSU
  2. Is a current student at Ohio State
  3. Is regularly active on reddit

Bonus points if you have moderation experience, and/or if you plan on sticking around at OSU for a while (e.g. you're a student who has >1 year to go in their degree).

What do moderators do? What is it like to moderate r/OSU?

Moderators primarily approve/remove content in r/OSU, but there are opportunities to contribute in other ways (e.g. community engagement, subreddit styling, automation, etc).

This subreddit is typically pretty calm but there are occasional bursts of activity that may need more attention (e.g. on bad weather days or during a certain graduation speech). As with any online, anonymous gig there will also be occasional trolling and outright harassment from users. It can sometimes be stressful, so we wanted to provide a heads up. If you have any questions about being a moderator, please send a message to r/OSU.

How can I apply?

This year, we will be using the Reddit Moderator application. Please click this link to be taken directly there.

Please don't post applications in the comments or message us on modmail, they won't be considered.

What if I'm not interested?

If this doesn't sound interesting to you, note that individual users have a lot more power than they think! Continue to use upvotes/downvotes to determine what does/does not belong on this sub, and continue to use the report button for when rules are broken. And a sincere thanks to everyone who already does that, it makes moderating so much easier and our community that much better.

Decisions will be reached within the next two weeks, and new moderators will be reached out to directly. Applications may be closed earlier if we find what we're looking for, though. If you have any questions, please use this link to modmail the moderators. Please don't put applications in the comments, apply via modmail, or reach out to individual moderators via PM (the link provided goes to a shared inbox).

Thanks for being a great community, we appreciate you all!

I will be taking CHEM 1610 at the same time. Is this a manageable semester? If anyone has experience with the class I would love to hear your thoughts or any tips you might have.

I'm looking for the easiest class/prof. I had Badjic for ochem 1 and I really enjoyed his class. I liked how his exams matched up w the practice questions and things we did in class. It's my last semester, and I rlly don't want to tank my gpa before I graduate. These are the options:

Dennis Bong

David Nagib

Jennifer Walters

Psaras McGrier

Mike Chang

Academics Auditing courses and waiving requirements

I really want to take the intro to Darkroom class, but it has a prereq of a GE class and I’m done with all my GEs and don’t particularly have the room for another. I really, desperately want to take the darkroom class tho. Is there like any way this could potentially get waived?

I’m also interested in auditing it, but is that something I just have to email my advisor about?

Question Want to transfer to OSU

I’m currently a freshman at the University of Kentucky, but I’m planning to transfer to Ohio State because I want to switch from nursing to finance and accounting. I’m originally from Ohio, and I can see myself living in Columbus after college. A big reason I’m interested in OSU is Fisher and the opportunities it could provide for internships, networking, and a career in finance. Beyond academics, I also love the idea of going to a big school with a huge alumni network, football games, a fun social scene, and a city with a lot going on.
My current plan is to potentially start at OSU Mansfield in spring 2027 and move to the Columbus campus in fall 2027. I know the regional campuses are different from the main campus, but I’m wondering if it’s worth taking that route to get to Columbus sooner and safer rather than staying at UK and applying directly to Columbus for fall 2027.
For current OSU students, what do you genuinely love about Ohio State? Do you feel like it has lived up to the hype, and do you think the opportunities, social life, alumni network, and overall college experience make it worth attending? I’d especially like to hear from anyone who started at a regional campus. Was it worth it, how was the transition to Columbus, and did you feel like you were truly part of OSU? I’m trying to get a better idea of what makes OSU special and whether starting at Mansfield for a semester is a good way to get there.

Academics Christopher Martin or Andrew Baldwin for Ochem 1?

Those two are the only two options I can choose from.

I've heard Baldwin has really hard exams but provides a lot of practice material to help. I've also heard that Martin's exams are easier, but he is a newer professor who doesn't teach as well and doesn't provide a lot of materials to study.

Basically my options are a hard-af professor that gives a lot of material to study or one with an easier exam that doesn't teach as well. I'm really torn on what's the best pick. Does anyone have any more insight?

Whatever I choose it’ll be with Physio 3200

Parking / Transport Schottenstein Center Early Parking

Hi! I am going to see Olivia Rodrigo on the 29th and was wondering which parking lots near the Schottenstein Center open early enough? I have VIP tickets, so I am definitely planning to get there earlier than 3:30 which is the time where the lot nearest to the center becomes available. Can I still park there anyway? Thanks

Discussion PSA: if you want to do music in college but are not a music major, there are still many options for you!

I just wanted to say this, since I feel like a lot of people think if they aren't pursuing music professionally then they're "locked out" of the music programs at the collegiate level, or will be way behind everyone else.

Whether it's choir, pop bands, jazz big band, jazz combo, wind band, or orchestra, there are at least three hierarchical tiers of groups for each ensemble. Campus strings, university band, and jazz workshop for instance, are all three practically designed and intended specifically for non-majors.

There are classes available for private lessons for non-majors, meaning if you took piano lessons in highschool and really liked them, that is still open to you at the collegiate level without needing to be extremely good at piano. If you're able to pay out of pocket, there are also plenty of music students and grad students who will be excited to give you lessons themselves, often for much cheaper than a professor.

There are over 100 practice rooms within the music building, and while they are prioritized for music majors, you are still fully able to book a room or even just stroll into the music building and find an open room.

It's a very common story that someone did band or took piano/violin/whatever lessons or did youth orchestra in highschool, loved it, but didn't love it enough to pursue it as a career and thus totally stopped playing after highschool. I've heard this from students, and I hear it very frequently from adults who miss it and wish they had continued playing after highschool. I want to say this: if you miss it, then you can still do it!! I'm a music education major so I am biased, but I think music is one of the most important things for our quality of life in this world. It enriches our souls and unites us across languages and across countries and across continents. If you want to do music, then do music. If you love it then keep loving it, if you miss it then find a way to bring it back into your life. There are so many opportunities for you no matter what your skill level is, and life is too short to discard something you love because it "isn't useful" to you.

Academics ACCTMIS 2200- Intro to Acct 1

I didn’t do great on the first accounting exam and realized my study methods for the class aren’t cutting it.

for people who are currently in the class or previously took it and succeeded, what study methods helped the most? doing the practice problems, studying quiz questions, in class problems, lecture videos, etc.

Parking / Transport Any alternatives to CampusParc?

Hey y’all,

I was planning on getting a parking permit next semester and was talking to my parents about it, and my dad suggested trying to see if there were any alternatives to paying for a permit. Does anyone know of places near campus that someone could park a car (paying or free)? My dad said I should just park it on the street somewhere but I think that’s a stupid fucking idea. If anyone has tried anything like this please lmk!

Help Any affordable mechanics? On or off campus!

I feel embarrassed to post this since i genuinely don’t know anyone around campus nor Columbus OH in general. My car Driving “D” signal isn’t blinking nor working so I can’t drive the car anywhere it’s risky. I’m assuming it has to do with the transmission but I’d rather have someone with experience to check the car hook out.
I want to know if anyone here knows a mechanic that can come over since I live off campus (super close to Union) please let me know

Help Looking for professional photographer in OSU area.

As said in title I am looking for a photographer who is a professional. Sorry not interested in hobbyist. Last time I did pictures I did a hobbyist they did not turn out well. Any rate will do no limit.

Although I may do some photos shoots at OSU I prefer to be more outside and various places in Columbus. If you don’t have transportation. I can provide. The photos I desire are ones that be used professional head shots like for LinkedIn. Also some for holiday photos and for dating profiles. So if your good in that range that would be best.

Direct message me if you can help. In comments linking to a service would do.

Thanks I wish I could put this in more professional terms but I am unfamiliar with photography.

Question Brutus Statue Updates

Hey everyone! I’m in Columbus spending some time at OSU this weekend. My girlfriend and I were wanting to see some of the Brutus statues around campus. I know about the one at College Traditions, the hippie Brutus at some of the offices further down on High Street, the one in the Blackwell lobby and the one at the ROTC building, but I wanted to know where some other ones are. I saw this thread from two years ago: https://www.reddit.com/r/OSU/s/LHBqPs6CfU - But are there any updates or changes to where some of the Brutuses are? Thanks to all in advance!

Mods: If this post isn’t allowed for some reason, please let me know and I’ll be happy to take it down. Thank you!

Admissions What are my realistic odds of gaining admission for fall semester?

I am a current high school senior applying out of state to OSU due to it being one of my dream schools. I currently have a 3.9 weighted gpa (3.7 unweighted). I have taken 2 college classes throughout my high school career with one APUSH that was a 4. All of my years have been pretty equal in terms of class difficulty. (not one year being too particularly easier over the other) I have some solid extracirriculars (band/marching band, theater tech, volunteer, etc.) My current ACT composite score is a 28. Do I have any realistic odds of gaining admission for Fall 2027?

Lost and Found Lost AirPod case

So I dropped my AirPod case outside near the union(it’s empty) and someone picked it up and put it inside the union, where it has been for the last 2 days. Yes I already went to the lost and found desk but they said they didn’t have it and while I was there it showed my AirPod case was in the opposite direction anyway. On findmy, it shows that it is near the entrance of the union near the doors or by woodys/union market pickup, and I have walked through there several times. It is in a clear case with pink on the front. If anyone finds it, please let me know 🙏🙏🙏

Athletics Is it possible to get friends that are not students into the reserved student section?

I am currently a student at OSU and I bought 2 extra student tickets through the student ticket market place in the reserved section for the Oregon game. I was wondering how strict they are about non students being in student section if they have a ticket. Do they even check?
