General Dont trust the mail with your ballots!

• Upvotes

I dont care who you are voting for, well, I do, but thats not the point here/ Please hand walk in your ballots, or use a dropbox. I have a piece of mail I mailed on 10/20, certified letter to a business, non election related. According to tracking, it's been sitting in a distribution center for a week. I called to follow up, and all I can be told is "we are experiencing processing delays due to work being done on production centers"

This is an in state piece of mail, and it's now "officially" just been sitting 2 hours away from Lansing, due to "work being done on processing centers"

I’ve seen some crazy driving in the Lansing area

But a couple hours ago I saw the most insane driver of all time that nearly caused 5 or 6 head on collisions on Holt Rd heading toward Waverly Rd

I was driving down Holt Rd just past the high school, I was stuck behind a gravel truck going about 5-10mph below the speed limit. There were 4-5 cars behind me, one guy a few cars back could not be bothered so decided to pass everyone including the gravel truck.

Well you see the problem with this is that there was lots of oncoming traffic in the opposite lane. The guy didn’t seem to comprehend this and caused several cars to swerve off the road to avoid getting into a head on collision. I will give the guy props, when the guy got to the light at Holt and Waverly he did use his blinker to turn right.

Fox 47 issues, Bounce instead.

Is anyone else getting Bounce instead of Fox 47 in antenna? We first noticed it when we wanted to watch the Senate debate and it's still showing Bounce today.

Infant Car Seat Inspection

Where are new parents in the Lansing area getting car seat inspections done? I called the Fire Department and Health Department and they both gave me the impression they hadn't been asked in a long time and told me they'd call me back. I figured there must be a place that does most of the inspections for the area that I don't know about.

Berm Construction Recommendations

Looking for a company that can construct a berm for sound reduction along a busy road. Would a regular landscaping company be able to do this? Would this require an engineering firm? Not exactly sure who to contact.

Michigan's domestic violence laws are way too lenient—and survivors pay the price

Sparkle Young is a survivor of domestic violence, and her experience exposed something infuriating: Michigan treats domestic violence like a minor crime. A slap on the wrist. Meanwhile, perpetrators face minimal consequences, and victims are left picking up the pieces.

I started a petition to push Michigan to reclassify domestic violence as a felony, establish mandatory sentencing, and fund real victim support. Research shows states with tougher laws see recidence drop by up to 11%. We have the evidence. We know what works.

The goal is simple: make abusers face real accountability, domestic violence prevention classes, counseling and give survivors the protection the law should have provided from the start. If this resonates with you—if you've seen how broken this system is—consider signing and sharing. What would you want someone to do if this was your family?

Don’t shop at Gardner White

UPDATE: I retract my previous statement on not recommending Gardner White in Lansing. I was contacted by a manager named Amanda who was incredibly helpful in resolving our frustrating experience. We will be having the furniture we ordered delivered and assembled today. I do recommend going into the Lansing store and working with Amanda or her employees. I stand by my review of their corporate call center employees, Liz and Deanna. They remain to be absolutely awful to work with, completely unhelpful and generally incompetent. If you choose to buy from Gardner White, do everything you can to only work with the physical store and avoid their corporate call center at all costs.

Thank you again, Amanda, for making things right with our purchase!

*****

If you’re in the market to purchase furniture, I do NOT recommend Gardner-White in Lansing. Quick to greet you at the door and swoop in to sell you things but they are TERRIBLE with their execution in the purchasing process, their delivery process and their corporate call center employee, Liz, (AND their call center supervisor; Deanna) has absolutely AWFUL communication skills. They give misleading information and direction, try to shift the blame for their poor communication on the consumer and when they are challenged on the fact that THEY dropped the ball MULTIPLE TIMES in this process and have only offered a meaningless “I’m sorry, all I can do is reschedule you”, SUDDENLY they’re able to offer a gift card? That gift card can’t be used towards your initial purchase that they screwed up from start to finish; it can only be used on new purchases… What kind of resolution is that?!

After a terrible experience from purchase to failed delivery to poor communication from incompetent employees at their CORPORATE call center, why in the world would we EVER want to buy more furniture from this company? They can’t even deliver quality results on the FIRST attempted purchase; they think we want to CONTINUE doing business with them by using their piddly gift card?! Literal insanity. Terrible customer service in multiple departments. Terrible behavior from a business.

Do yourself a favor; go shop literally ANYWHERE else for furniture. Do not buy from Gardner-White. Not in Lansing, not anywhere. You’d be better off with milk crates, cardboard and duct tape than trying to work with this company to purchase furniture.

Hello beautiful people, my girlfriend and I are new to the Dungeons & Dragons world and would love to learn more on how to play it and even try to find some people to play with as well! I was wondering if there were any recommendations regarding some local shops where we can play and meet people and also just some tips on starting the game in general!

Lansing LockDown Mason School Board Candidate

Hello everyone. I don't personally live in the Mason school district but if you do I would strongly advise against voting for Delinda "Dee" Benson for school board. She is a big time Trump supporter and should not be in a position of power like that. Idk about other candidates but just wanted to give a heads up.

Where best to get info on local elections?

I somehow lost my absentee ballot (if I don't find it soon I'll go in-person to a clerk's office) and am looking at the sample ballot on ballotpedia. For the major stuff this is adequate, but there's a dearth of info on local candidates. Where can I learn more about them?

Personal To the person who told me they have cancer at QD

This is a bit of a personal story, but I think that it may help others as well.

On Friday, October 23rd around 6pm at a QD on E Michigan Ave. I bumped into someone, a person in their 20's. They made small talk with me asking how my day was. I responded with the normal "I'm doing good, what about you?"

They responded with a nervous laugh and just blurted out "Well I actually found out I have cancer today."

I immediately responded with a "Jesus Christ! I am sorry to hear that." I don't really remember much because I felt so beyond my abilities to know how to properly respond. At the time I felt like I had to get out of there as soon as possible. I'm sorry to you for not giving you more.

Two things have been stuck in my head since then:

  1. I hope that that person is doing okay as they process this and I deeply regret not doing or saying more in that situation. It blindsided me but I also felt like I didn't give them the grace and time I should have.

  2. To those reading this post, try to give the strangers you talk to a little more time and grace. You truly have no idea what they might be going through.

To the person I am talking about, my DMs are open and you are welcome to message me. I still don't know what to really say but I can listen/read what you have to say and go from there.

General Just got back from Chicago. An observation with Lansing…

I know the sizes of the cities is a large disparity, but yet I still noticed something fascinating.

The Lansing area (including EL) has way more homeless people, at least visibly, per capita as compared to the larger Chicago area.
And yes I was everywhere - downtown, Wicker, West Loop, Logan, Bucktown.

What the hell is going on in Lansing where our homeless population is booming/growing/taking over?

Also embarrassing: a college student was talking to someone not from the area how college kids are hesitant to go out at night, even on campus, for fear of being accosted by a homeless person.
