r/GamingLaptops now has its own deals site — RGL.deals launches today BETA

UPDATE — August 13, 2026

rgl.deals has grown a bit since I originally posted, so I wanted to give this post a update while it's still in BETA.

The idea is still simple: instead of showing you hundreds of gaming laptops, RGL keeps a smaller shortlist of deals that are actually worth considering.

Every listing is manually checked, with things like price, specs, cooling, display quality, GPU power limits, memory, storage, and overall value taken into account.

A lot of care has also gone into the smaller details. The site is heavily optimized for phones and smaller screens, not just desktop. Filters, comparisons, laptop pages, navigation, and general usability were all designed to work properly on mobile without feeling like a cut-down version of the site.

What's on the site now:

  • Curated gaming laptop deals with current and previous prices.
  • Filters for price, GPU, CPU, VRAM, RAM, screen size, brand, retailer, and more.
  • Gravity Sort, RGL's default value-based ranking.
  • Sorting by price, discount, savings, and other options.
  • Find a Match for narrowing down laptops based on what actually matters to you.
  • Side-by-side comparison for up to three laptops.
  • Detailed laptop pages with specs, price history, related models, retailer links, and review links.
  • Shareable searches, comparisons, and direct laptop links.
  • Mobile-first layouts and controls designed specifically for smaller screens.
  • No advertising trackers or marketing cookies. Preferences and saved comparisons stay in your browser.

RGL is meant to be a shortlist, not a giant catalog. If a laptop isn't worth recommending, it doesn't need to be there and that means no huge lists its quality over quantity.

The longer-term plan is also bigger than just deals. RGL is being built into a broader gaming laptop specific place with guides, buying information, laptop data, reviews, and other useful resources all in one place.

Full transparency: Some retailer links are affiliate links. That doesn't affect the listed price or determine which laptops make the shortlist.

RGL currently covers U.S. deals only, with more regions planned later.

It's still beta, so there will be bugs and things that need improving. If you find something broken or have feedback, leave it below any suggestions would be much appreciated thanks.

Discussion Anyone who still chose a laptop even if you don't move it around much?

I've got my Legion pro 7i and for those 2 years since I bought it and I pretty much use it plugged in like a desktop replacement. I always wonder what if I got a desktop instead. People always say it's a waste of money because desktops tend to beat laptops with the same configs. But for me the space saving factor is big. I also like that laptops produce less heat in my bedroom in the summer. In case i want to move mine out of my room it'd be much easier (though it hasnt happened much). I could be wrong but in 2026 I can't seem to find a desktop that's much cheaper than a laptop with the same configs.

Discussion 240h w/ 5080vs 275hx w/ 5070ti

From what I see it’s a 20% single core performance bump.

Although I’m not sure which one will make up for the other in this case. I know unoptimized games will eat gpu and esports will favor the cpu.

if both are with 200 dollars of each other, what’s the best bet?

It does seem like at 2k the difference dwindles by a great degree vs 1080p

This has to be a scam-the retail price is easily £2.5k to £3k. I was looking to upgrade my laptop and stumbled upon this, but it's way too cheap, so there's definitely a catch. The seller has terrible reviews, and the description even says "32GB DDR5 Memory | PCIE Solid State Drive (Boot SSD), Original Factory Box will be opened and resealed for Upgrade."What's the deal with that? Am I right in thinking this is a total scam, or is it actually the deal of a lifetime?🫪

Discussion Zephyrus G16 Duo 5070ti vs 5090

• Upvotes

Just curious….trying to look at Zephyrus G16 Duo either on 5070ti vs 5090….all the online reviews and youtube i see are only for 5090. I want to see how much avg FPS difference it’ll make on games if i were to choose 5070ti variant. Because for non-duo g16 i noticed that 5070ti vs 5080 it was only about 3-4fps difference due to thermal, so no point in getting 5080. Lastly, i want to know battery life difference too on duo 5070ti vs 5090, because again, g16 non-duo virtually had no difference.

Or i’m wondering if i should hold off until next year version comes out…if it will come out…as i noticed some constraints happened in this duo…but man dual touchscreen with OLED and 16” was so tempting lol

Recommendation First gaming laptop recommendations

• Upvotes

Budget: $2,500 (can go up to $3k, but would prefer not to)

Country: USA

Use Case: School/work (word, excel, powerpoint, basic Adobe, video conference calls) and gaming (Baldur’s Gate 3, Expedition 33, Resident Evil games, Tiny Glade)

Preferred Specs / Form Factor: strong preference for under 5lbs (physical disability reasons); decent/good cooling; would prefer a quiet fan but not a dealbreaker

Portability Needs: Mostly will be used at home on desk/lap desk, but needs to be able to travel in a backpack for occasional work travel.

Notes: Hi! Apologies if my ask isn’t specific with specs. I’ve never bought a gaming laptop before and am very new to all the terminology. I’ve been trying to do my own research but am feeling overwhelmed by my own lack of understanding of all the different terms, so thought I’d come here for recommendations. My current laptop is not a gaming laptop, so while I was able to play something like Gris on it, it absolutely cannot handle something like BG3 or even Tiny Glade. I think the issue may have been the GPU, but I’m not 100% certain. My current laptop is on its last legs anyway, though, so I figured I’d look at finally getting a laptop that can handle the games I’m interested in while still being good for my everyday work needs/going to grad school. I would also prefer a laptop that is more on the intuitive/user-friendly side and has good longevity.

Showcase How I got my gaming laptop 🥹 ✌

Post image
11 Upvotes

So... I got an ASUS TUF Gaming A15!

My story is I used to have a Lenovo G580 THAT was passed down to me by my dad (back around 2017). The laptop on the left was that Lenovo G580—it was upgraded to 6GB RAM, a 480GB SSD, an Intel i3-3110M, and a GeForce 610M. Recently, it was struggling a lot with my Godot game development.

My big bro had a PC too (no GPU, Intel i5-6500, 16GB RAM, 512GB SSD), but he only gave me limited time on it... I remember he used to take it back from me forcefully. Also, my cousin had a laptop better than mine and I was really jealous about it, but then he got a PC with an Intel 6500, a GeForce GT 730, and 16GB RAM.

Initially, my budget was around 10k Indian Rupees, but my dad straight up told me that he should buy me a futureproof PC instead. Before getting this laptop, we were actually planning to build a desktop. We researched a lot to find out what is good and what's bad.

When we went to a shop, the PC guy there tried to sell us an RX 550 system for 55K INR. I said nah, because I had watched ZTT (Zach's Tech Turf) and Meta PCs for like a year, so I knew the RX 550 was bad value!

Then we saw a random laptop in the shop. My dad told me to use my point of view, so I checked it out, selected this laptop, and my dad bought it for me... 🥹✌️

Just for fun, I put Linux on the old Lenovo G580 and did a quick boot test against the new ASUS TUF A15:

• ASUS TUF A15 (Modern NVMe SSD): (AROUND) 14 seconds

• Lenovo G580 (Linux + Older SSD): (AROUND) 25 seconds

Linux completely saved the old machine from becoming absolute e-waste, but man, it feels good to finally have a modern gaming rig of my own. No more strict time limits or hand-me-downs! Anyways, thanks for listening :D --GlintedRover

Discussion Fix stutter and lag

• Upvotes

I see a ton of posts on here complaining about micro-stutters, lag spikes, and choppy gameplay on modern gaming laptops, even with high-end specs. After dozens of hours of testing, tweaking settings, and tuning my Legion Slim 5 (Ryzen 7 7735HS, RTX 4070) using MSI Afterburner and UXTU I finally completely eliminated stuttering and achieved a perfectly flat frame time graph.

Here is the truth: Uncapped frame rates are killing your 1% lows and causing your stutters. Lowering your FPS ceiling will actually raise your performance floor.

Running my 165Hz G-Sync screen completely uncapped in heavy titles, I was averaging 110–120 FPS, but during intense combat and losing new areas that would drop to 70-75FPS. That 50 FPS difference created a massive judder that felt like lag.

• Uncapped: 110–120 FPS Avg | 70 FPS 1% Lows (Spiky frame time graph, noticeable stutter)

• Capped at 90 FPS: 90 FPS Avg | 80 FPS 1% Lows (Perfect flat-line frame times, completely fluid)

By lowering my max frame rate to 90, I freed up roughly 15–20% hardware headroom. When the game suddenly had to load a new zone or intense combat, the system had the immediate spare resources to handle the spike without choking.

I also setup a profile in Afterburner to undervolt to 950mv@2625mhz. This gave my GPU thermal headroom to maintain maximum clock speeds without generating extra heat. Coupled with a slight -15 offset on all cores in Universal X86 Tuning Utility (UTXU) and setting pl1 at 35 watts and pl2 at 45 watts keeps my temps in the mid 70s for the GPU and around 80 max on the CPU.

TLDR;

If you are fighting stutters, stop chasing peak FPS. Find your average, cap your frame rate roughly 10–15% below it (or right around your baseline heavy dips), drop a minor undervolt on your hardware to stabilize thermals, and enjoy smooth gameplay.

Recommendation Laptop recommendations for mechanical engineering student

Thumbnail

Budget: Around $1,500 USD
Country: USA
Use Case: School, multitasking, and engineering software (CAD, simulations, etc.).
Preferred Specs:
GPU: NVIDIA RTX 5060 or better
CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 9955HX or equivalent
RAM: Preferably 24GB–32GB
Storage: 1TB SSD minimum
Display: 16-inch, 165Hz or better

Notes:
I’m currently considering the ASUS ROG Strix G16 Gaming Laptop with the following specs:
AMD Ryzen 9 9955HX
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5060
16GB RAM
1TB SSD
16” WUXGA 165Hz display
Windows 11

I’m looking for a powerful laptop that can handle gaming, schoolwork, and demanding software while still having a relatively sleek design. I would prefer at least 24GB of RAM, but I’m open to upgrading the RAM myself.

Is the ASUS ROG Strix G16 worth buying, or are there better alternatives around $1,500? I’m also interested in recommendations from brands like ASUS, Lenovo, and Dell.

Accessories My 3070 laptop still runs fine, but the IPS screen is washed out. Anyone using a portable OLED?

My Lenovo Legion lasted for a couple of years. It handles everything fine The GPU works adequately for the games I play, but the built-in IPS panel bothers me a whole lot. The backlight bleed is noticeable, especially in dark games, and after seeing my friends OLED laptop, I find it hard to go back to my old laptop.

I just don’t have the budget at the moment to drop 2k+ on a new gaming laptop. My laptop runs just fine. I have nowhere to set up a monitor that’s anywhere bigger than 27-inch. I am ok with just setting something temporary.

I looked around on Amazon but most of the standard budget portable screens seem to be capped at 60Hz. Saw this Uperfect GR16HQ model that supposedly has a 16-inch 3K OLED panel, running at 120Hz. One thing though, it relies on one of those magnetic smart covers to stand up instead of a built-in kickstand, so I’m a bit worried it’ll slip or wobble on my desk during intense gaming.

Has anyone here actually tried gaming on a portable OLED display via Type-C? Does pushing the display through the USB-C port, does it lag? Is this set up viable or am I wasting my time? So any input would be great.

Recommendation How good is this model?

Budget: $3.5k

Country: US

Use case: gaming and gamedev

Planning on getting this one. Anybody that's used this model before?

The main purpose will be gaming and unity gamedev. Will be a desktop replacement with some light travel, so battery life and weight won't be a problem. Usually spends hours (6+) at a time, so need some good thermal stability.

Will also be doing some artwork, hence going for the 4k screen. Heard there's some blooming issue, but is the color accuracy good?

Will wait till Black Friday to see if any offers come up. My Max budget is $3.5k including taxes, are there any other laptop recommendations for that spec in this budget?

Recommendation Best “cheapish” gaming laptop?

• Upvotes

Budget: $300-$700
Country: US
Uses: gaming and editing
Preferred specs: ram? I believe that’s storage and
Notes: down below

Now I’d typically just search this question up on google and pick one from there, but awhile back I did that and picked like 3 desktops and asked Reddit which one is good, and found out all 3 of them were horrible.

So my reason for asking is there and now my explanation, since Christmas is around the corner I’ve been thinking about upgrading my hp laptop. I’m looking at something cost effective between the range of 300-700 or something like that, has a lot of storage a good chunk for editing stuff, and a laptop that can play a decent amount of games. So what brand and type of laptop should I go for?

I’m not the most “techy” in terms of laptops and such, always been a console gamer so yea what should I be looking at? Thank you in advance.

Just additional info, I’m not looking for a laptop that can like run the highest of high quality games at top speed, but I am looking for something that run like Batman Arkham games with a mod, Minecraft with mods, and random games. But mainly I’m looking for a storage effective system that can hold a lot of files without me needing to delete something every other day.

PC specs are 24gb ram ddr4, ryzen 7 5800xt, rx6600 xt. what laptop should i buy to equal the performance of my pc. i looked on the internet and i had a heart attack because people say its impossible to get stable 260 fps on a laptop in cs2 as an example. Now i think of giving up because im scared that i wont be able to run the games i play. BTW im from europe so laptops are so much more expensive here. Any chance i can find one?

Discussion Sudden FPS stutters / micro-stutters every few seconds despite good temperatures and large shader cache

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hey everyone,

I'm dealing with a really frustrating performance issue and could use some help. Out of nowhere, my games started stuttering constantly. They'll run smoothly for a few seconds, drop frames, work fine again, and then repeat the cycle.

I've already tried looking for a solution everywhere with no luck. To get ahead of the usual suggestions:

  • It isn't a temperature issue, as my thermals are completely fine.
  • It isn't because of the shader cache size, since I already increased it to 100 GB.

For context, I recently played Detroit: Become Human, and it ran smoothly because it pre-generates its shaders. That makes me think it's still shader-related somehow, but I'm completely stuck on what else to check.

If anyone has experienced this or knows a fix, please let me know.
