News First Australian charged under deepfake pornography laws avoids jail

In short:

The first Australian charged under federal laws designed to combat deepfake pornography has been sentenced.

A judge said William Yeates created non-consensual AI-generated sexual material of a teenage girl and shared it online "to humiliate, degrade and harass the victim".

What's next?

He was sentenced to two years and three months behind bars, but has been released on a recognisance release order with the condition he be of good behaviour.

Honestly he should be serving his time in prison to set a precedent that would deter this disgusting behaviour.

Discussion Introducing V1 of Adelaide SK8, A Skate 3 PC Browser/Phone project with Rundle Mall and Adelaide Airport as maps

Hey folks of r/Adelaide! I’ve been inspired lately by seeing different map projects for the recent decomp of Skate 3 as well as ports of the game mechanics to other engines such as Rust 2. So! I decided to start work on a new project, using the Rust 2 Skate 3 port, which will be playable independently on your PC, through your browser, or on your iOS/Android device. So I wanted to try and recreate both Rundle Mall and the Adelaide Airport as the project’s initial two maps. Both maps have two modes so far, the closer to life version of each, and then the optimised skate park versions, which add rails and ramps across the map for you to play with.

This is just a WIP atm, and I stress that it’s still a V1 at this stage in terms of full accuracy to both of the locations and their distinct landmarks, as well as the different brand parodies. ATM the landmarks are placed mostly in the right place and are looking pretty decent, APART from the pig on the bin I know he’s missing but trust he will be included upon release. Same goes for the brands and their locations atm. I have most of the brands and logos but currently not ALL of the shopfronts are all placed in the right locations. What I will say, is it’s currently fully playable across the diff platforms and it’s running pretty darn smoothly. It has all of Skate 3’s features including scoring, waypoint setting and spawning, and a map of teleport options, including spawns on roofs and high up locations for some fun. I plan to build on the accuracy of the shops and the design of both Rundle and the Airport, my end goal is to have the arcades fully included and like the Myer Center and other interiors throughout to make it a bit more varied.

Please let me know what you think! And if you’d be interested in a potential release! If people are keen, I’ll be looking into launching these maps and the system on GitHub in the coming weeks! Plz keep in mind that like some of the initial setup will involve some mod fandangling, in terms of like you’ll need to provide your own Skate 3 ISO that has been procured legitimately, and once that setup is done you’ll be able to play normally/without a setup process each launch. Please tell me if you have any ideas of what to add, or if you have any resources that would be of help for this project ie like up-to-date 3D maps n stuff like that. I do have an additional map that I’m still working on, which is a full recreation both outside and in of Z Ward/Glenside/The Adelaide Lunatic Asylum!

If you want to see the project in action, check out the V1 gameplay trailer here! It shows off both maps, the skating mechanics, tricks and some fun currently in build 1!

News Fines of up to $120k for dumping pet fish in Adelaide river

Thumbnail

Adelaide residents are being urged not to release noxious koi carp or their unwanted goldfish into the River Torrens, following sightings of more than a dozen suspected koi at Hackney, and a smaller number upstream at Dernancourt.

The group of bright orange, black and muti-coloured fish at Hackney appeared last week between the St Peters Weir and Hackney Bridge.

It's illegal to keep koi in South Australia, and those dumping them — or even their pet goldfish — in rivers could be fined up to $120,000.

Nets are being used to try to catch the brightly coloured koi.

Discussion Oliver's Nuts Store James Place

I’ve shopped at this place for years (apparently they've been open for 10 years, according to the sign in the window). There’s a lovely man and woman who run it, so I was really sad to walk past yesterday and see them clearing the place out. I read the notice, and it said they were closing after 10 years due to a disagreement with the landlord. I was rushing for the bus, but I doubled back to quickly tell them how sorry I was to see them go and to wish them all the best.Does anyone know if they plan to reopen somewhere else? I didn’t have time to ask, and I suspect they’ll be gone by the next time I’m in the city. Such a shame!

News Northern suburbs man arrested and cautioned after allegedly stalking two South Australian MPs

A 44-year-old man has been arrested for stalking two members of South Australia’s parliament. The suspect from Adelaide’s northern suburbs has also been charged with a breach of bail for unrelated offending. Police say the stalking incidents happened at separate locations and are not connected. They also say that an individual issued with a stalking caution can be formally charged with stalking under Section 19AA of the Criminal Law Consolidation Act 1935 (SA) if they breach the conditions of the stalking caution. The man has been bailed to appear in the Elizabeth Magistrates Court on November 27 for the breach of bail charge.

Question When will SAPOL return my phones?

Asking for a friend. (Of course!)

SAPOL grabbed her phones, tablet & PC after an incident where no-one was charged and there didn't seem to be interest in them for external crimes. Although that seems strange, what's the normal process to get them back? Also how long will it take before SAPOL returns them?

Life without a phone or PC is miserable. Does SAPOL take this into account?

Discussion Earthquake?

I’m a bit south of Marion. 7:48 or 7:49am. Gentle Side to side shaking for about 3-5 seconds.

Edit: 5.1 mag, 172km from the CBD. So a big one by Aussie standards.

Edit2: they removed the details now. Must be an error.

Assistance Can my baby see a paediatrician while waiting for Medicare enrolment? (Adelaide)

• Upvotes

Hi everyone! 😊
We recently arrived in Adelaide with my daughter, who is an Australian citizen and has an Australian passport. I’ve emailed her Medicare enrolment form and supporting documents, and I’m currently waiting for it to be processed.
I’d like to book her a routine paediatric check-up, but I’m unsure whether clinics will see her before her Medicare enrolment is approved.
For parents who have been through the same situation:
Were you able to book a GP or paediatrician while waiting for your baby’s Medicare card?
Did you have to pay privately, and roughly how much did it cost?
Is there a child and family health service in Adelaide that can see babies while their Medicare enrolment is pending?
I’d really appreciate hearing about your experiences and any advice. Thank you! ❤️

News Earthquake details

Our seismograph network recorded this morning's earthquake. You can see the details here.

Click the Victor Harbor entry in the list, you can click Phase to see which stations were used to locate it and Magnitude to see what magnitudes the different stations recorded

We got a location 105km south of Victor Harbor, maybe 5-10km SW of Geoscience Australia's automatic location.

Question What’s the clock that chimes in Rundle Mall?

Does anyone know 1) which clock chimes every 15(?) minutes in the mall, and 2) the name of the song it plays at midday? I remember the 12pm song being longer than the regular chimes and a different melody. It’s really cute and I’ve always wondered where it came from.

Here’s the chiming I’m thinking of. Can’t find a recording of the 12pm melody, unfortunately.

I’ve heard people say it’s the GW Cox clock or further away at the GPO or Town Hall, but I can’t find a clear answer.

Question Anyone keen to teach me how to surf? 🏄‍♀️

Hey guys! I (F31) moved to Adelaide from Germany last year and live around Christies Beach with my partner. I’d love to learn how to surf but I have no idea where to start.
I’m a bit worried about getting in people’s way or being that person who has no clue what they’re doing 🥲

I’d also love to meet some new people to get outdoors and do stuff with - whether that’s surfing, hiking or just exploring new places.
If anyone’s up for helping a total beginner out, or is in the same boat and wants to learn together, hit me up!

Do you know of any food places that pay it forward? The idea is customers can leave some money which goes towards a free meal / drink for someone that cant afford to pay. Cheers

Question Can anyone recommend some fencing companies?

All 3 sides of my block need new fences.

Haven’t approached the neighbours yet, but thought it would be best to approach with a quote or two.

Can anyone recommend some good companies with good workmanship, not necessarily the cheapest, but work that you can look at years down the line and think, yeah, they were good.

(In Adelaide’s north)
