I’ve spoken with several Verizon supervisors, and the answer is consistent: they have zero visibility into warehouse stock. The dates in Service Central — including the ones that flipped back to 10/23 — are placeholders. Front-line staff do not know when these phones will arrive or ship.
The “shipping delay” message is automatic. It appears after a delivery date is missed. It does not mean the phone is with a carrier.
If your date is 10/23 or 10/30: you are unlikely to get the phone in October. Verizon has no inventory in its warehouses and is waiting on Apple to ship units into the U.S. That could be another week or another month. No one on the front lines has a real answer — only senior leadership might.
December dates are probably safer. Early Duo issues (screen cracking, hinge defects, a weak IP68 rating) will likely produce returns and cancellations over the next few weeks, which could free up stock.
If you want the phone before next year, keep the pre-order and plan to wait. I’m watching how Apple handles the durability complaints. Depending on that, I may cancel and keep my current phone. It is not worth the stress.
Being told this is “normal for a hot phone,” or that the iPhone 18 Pro launch went fine, is a script. The reps are the front line. They have no information and no tools to fix it. Treat them with respect — this comes from the top.
If Verizon valued transparency, they would have marked every unfulfilled launch-day pre-order as backordered from the start instead of cycling fake dates.
Hope you get yours sooner rather than later. Good luck.
