New Rule: No Photos or Personal Details Without Consent

Hi everyone,

We recently added a new rule: No photos or personal details without consent.

Please do not post photos, videos, names, addresses, workplaces, license plates, or other identifying details of private individuals without their consent. If someone is already part of a public news story, their publicly reported name or image may be allowed, but private or sensitive identifying information still cannot be shared.

We know posts like this are usually well-intentioned and meant as warnings, PSAs, or attempts to help the community. The issue is that we generally cannot verify consent, intent, or accuracy. Even well-intentioned posts can lead, and have led, to harassment, doxxing, retaliation, mistaken identification, or other real-world harm, including to people completely unrelated to the post.

We are open to discussion and feedback, but we are putting this rule in place based on past and very recent incidents that could have been prevented had this rule been in place and enforced.

If you see a post breaking this rule, please report it.

[Request] Need a huge favor from UWS / Mayfair Towers residents! (3D artists recreating The Dakota)

Hi everyone,

My wife and I are 3D artists from Ukraine, and we're currently working on a highly detailed 3D recreation of The Dakota building for an architectural project. We try to be as structurally accurate as possible, but we've hit a wall.

We are trying to model the West elevation (the rear facade) with these specific multi-story gables and dormer windows. I’ve attached an old historical photo to show exactly which part I mean.

The problem is that since Mayfair Towers was built right next to it, it’s basically impossible to find any modern, high-resolution reference photos of this exact angle on the internet.

If anyone here lives in Mayfair Towers (or a neighboring building with a clear vantage point) and could snap a few photos of this roof section, we would be incredibly grateful! We don't need anything artistic or beautifully framed — just raw, clear, slightly zoomed-in shots of the gables, slate roof, and window geometry so we can nail the topology and materials.

Thanks so much in advance for your time and help!

Calling all animal lovers and people who care

Hi guys, I know some of you may think this is silly, but I went to cozy nails on 100th St. the other day and noticed that at the front of the shop they have a very small fish bowl that's crowded with too many fish and a giant pump
in the middle. It was genuinely sad to see, and just so clearly a lack of care. I threw out the idea that they should consider getting a bigger tank but I don't think they care. it just made me sad to see, especially if they're gonna have fish as pets. I'm wondering if any fellow animal lovers might be willing to go in there and try to get the fish from them or encourage them to do something? I can't have fish in my apartment and don't really know what to do. The address is 17 W 100th St

UWS Halloween Block Party

I heard that there are two Halloween block parties in UWS, 69th St between Broadway and CPW & 87th Street between Amsterdam and CPW.

Has anyone been to either of these and is the vibe more family friendly or bar crawl/party oriented. Me and my 30ish group of friends are looking to avoid the West Village/Stone street plague this year and looking for another party like atmosphere.

72nd Street 1/2/3 station - barrier rail destroyed??

I was passing through the southern island of the 72nd 1/2/3 at street level today and noticed that on the east side of the island, several sections of the safety railing look like they were taken out by a vehicle. (And that vehicle would have had to go straight through the unprotected bike lane right there.)

Any news on what happened? More good argument in support of protecting all bike lanes, I reckon.

Sauna Recommendations on the UWS?

Hi everyone! Does anyone know of any spots on the Upper West Side that offer sauna access? I’m familiar with a few places down in Chelsea, but was hoping to find something more local.

Ideally looking for somewhere that offers drop-in sessions or pay-per-visit access without requiring a gym membership. Would appreciate any recommendations. Thanks!

Loud dirt biker revving late night/early morning W80s-W90s ..3-4x/week ..advice

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Anyone else notice a dirt biker (red dirt bike) riding up and down through side streets, Broadway and Amsterdam Avenue? He goes opposite traffic.

I do have actual video, but I only want to share it with police as showing the video will show where I live, so I made a graphic but you can hear the audio. I’ve called 311 who punts me to 911 multiple times over the last few months to no avail. If you listen to the audio in this video, you can understand how loud the revving is, and this is at 2 AM in the MORNING on Amsterdam Avenue and 94th Street. 😩

This usually starts at 1 AM and goes until 4 AM.

It’s actually going on right now as I type. I’ve already called 311- connecting me to 911. This is probably the 5th time I’ve called. I’ve called and three hours later he’s still biking around, so I don’t know if they have spoken with him or not, since he’s been doing this for months, I think he’s not been spoken to. It’s a red dirt bike, by the way. 🤷🏽

Interestingly, someone walked past the biker and said something to him, and he revved his engine even louder. I’m assuming the passerby was not happy (you can see his motions in the video). The biker obviously knows what it’s doing to people. I can tolerate the noise during the daytime- but this early morning is getting ridiculous.

Certainly I cannot be the only one hearing the nonstop loud revving!

Any other suggestions appreciated. Thank you!

Looking for a good massage or recovery place near Upper West Side

Been dealing with tight shoulders and lower back from sitting at a desk all day and trying to keep running. A couple people mentioned Mudras in Chelsea as a place that does more customized work instead of the usual hour routine, but I have not been yet.

Anyone around here used them or have another spot closer to the Upper West Side that is good for sports recovery or just chronic desk tightness? Also curious if the good places up here usually need a membership or if you can just book single sessions. Thanks.

Looks like the light is facing the roof of an apartment building for a scene! It’s Universal Studios trucks.

Living at the border with Hell’s Kitchen

Hi, we’re looking at an apartment in the upper 50s on the west side. We wanted to be in that sweet spot of Amsterdam and 70s but prices for 2/2 are up. would love to hear from residence how they like it here and whether they mostly stay local or travel up to Trader Joe’s and other 70s go to spots. Seems like the park is still pretty close and of course Columbus Circle. Thanks.

Anyone seen this guy?

This past Saturday, I was on the SE corner of Columbus and 73rd Street.

The most sinister looking man was walking South on Columbus Ave. He had long hair, a blacked-out face tattoo over the bottom half of his face, he was carrying a thick industrial chain in his right hand. As he passed, a little death rattle emanated from his mouth.

I haven't been able to get the image from my mind. Unsure if it was Halloween related or whether demons really do walk among us.

Guy with a machete running down 69th?

Does anyone know about the guy with a machete, pursued by the cops, running down 69th street around 11:45am today? I was very surprised not to see any posts about it here and I'm wondering what the story was. (I didn't actually see him, but it freaked my parishioners out, for good reason!)

Does anyone know why everything is closing on this block?

Post image
57 Upvotes

There’s now a closed grocery store on the south corner (Broadway Farms), a closed Blank Street, and a larger closed cafe (Safta’s) on the north corner all sitting vacant. Then immediately across 86th street there is also a vacant closed Gristedes. Not to mention that pizza place that sat vacant for a while and then turned into another mediocre pizza place.

Is this block cursed? Or did all of these businesses just suck?

trick or treating in UWS buildings, how does it work?

first halloween in our building in the west 80s (management building, not a co-op) and i'm honestly a bit confused about how it works here. someone mentioned there's usually a sign up sheet for apartments that want trick or treaters but i haven't seen anything in our lobby yet. is it always on the 31st or do some buildings do their own day? and do you sign up through the doorman or management or is it more of a word of mouth thing? also would love to know if there are any good blocks nearby people go to. thanks!

Navigating lower face and neck lift consultations in the city, how do you cut through the Park Ave marketing hype?

Living in New York means having access to some of the top facial plastic surgeons in the world, but it also means dealing with an overwhelming amount on luxury marketing. Almost every practice between the Upper East Side and Midtown claims to be the premier deep plane specialist, and sorting through the glossy social media presence versus actual surgical skill is exhausting.

I am in my early fifties and starting the consultation process specifically for structural lower face and neck restoration. My main goal is finding someone who specializes in deep structural neck work rather than just basic skin tightening.

For new yorkers who have actually gone through the consultation circuit across Manhattan, what specific questions helped you separate truly skilled surgeons from those who just have high budget marketing teams? Any local consultation green flags or warning signs you noticed while meeting with city practices?
