Other Flair for Union Members
You can use flair to show other users which union you are affiliated with! On this subreddit we have two types of flair: red flair for regular union members, and yellow flair for experienced organizers who can provide advice.
Red flair self-assignment instructions
- You can edit flair to include your local number and your role in the union (steward, local officer, retiree, etc.).
- If your union is not listed, please reply to this thread so that we can add your union!
- If you have any difficulty, you may reply to this post and a mod can help.
Yellow flair for experienced organizers
You do not need to be a professional organizer to get yellow flair, but you should have experience with organizing drives, contract campaigns, bargaining, grievances, and/or local union leadership.
To apply for yellow flair, reply to this post. In your reply please list:
- Your union,
- Your role (rank-and-file, steward, local officer, organizer, business agent, retiree, etc.)
- Briefly summarize your experience in the labor movement. Discuss how many years you've been involved, what roles you've held, and what industry or industries you've organized in.
Please do your best to avoid posting personally identifiable information. We're not going to do real-life background checks, so please be honest.

Question (Legal or Contract/Grievances) My annual review score was lowered for exercising my Weingarten Rights.
Today I had my annual review, in one of the sections it was claimed that I had refused to meet with management one on one multiple times throughout the year. When I asked for dates that these instances had supposedly occurred on they were unable to provide any. I have never refused to speak with management. Throughout the year every time I have been called into the office to speak with management I have read off my Weingarten Rights from a little card that they give us at Union Meetings. We were told to read from that card every time management calls us in for a meeting. Reading from this card does not constitute a refusal to speak with management, only that I was stating my Weingarten Rights. I believe that they lowered my score on my annual review in retaliation for exercising my Weingarten Rights. I have informed my Shop Steward and they said that they will inform the Union Secretary Treasurer.
This whole thing seems very sketchy to me. Is their any possible repercussions for them doing this to me? Their statements were fabrications and gaslighting. This entire thing feels very wrong and is making me extremely nervous and stressed. Is there anything that can be done about this issue? What do I need to be aware of and what do I need to be doing here? Please teach me what to do here, I am extremely nervous and stressed right now. Thank you.
I work for a private company in leisure.

Discussion Suggestions/help on a good future?
I’m planning on going into the union come February. My uncle is retired from the Operators and suggested I start with Labors to get some experience (since I have none). Could you guys/gals possibly give me some advice on what to do/look forward to in terms of moving into a professional, well paid trade once I am an apprentice? I am 26 years old and want to get my future started, better now then never. Thank you

Help me start a union! My employer retaliates
But I'm afraid to give info because they have AI looking for us online.
I've tried raising awareness anonymously but basically every system is built to avoid that. Almost like the ruling class benefits by creating as many barriers to open communication as possible.
It's basically impossible to get any kind of traction with anonymous burners.
Is there any kind of "complaint exchange" were people unaffiliated with said corp can air laundry without fear of reprisal?

Question (Legal or Contract/Grievances) Is this suspect?
Work in a public school where our support staff (custodians, food service, paraprofessionals) are all in the same union. I’m currently in a leadership position but admittedly not the most up to date on procedure. I rely heavily on my representative.
Anyway, got a message from on high in a random weekly newsletter that they’re “clarifying” (see: restricting) the definition of the PTO/sick leave to only the latter to be used for the employee, and UNABLE to be used to for caring for a sick child or spouse. This is a massive change of pace considering our “sick time bank” is 4x the size of our PTO, and one of the few reasons to even have this job is the forgiving attitude towards sick kids.
That’s totally suspect right? I’ve already contacted my rep, but this seems an egregious overstep for a random Monday morning. I can push back on this right?

Discussion A group of us are preparing to vote no on our contract, how do we deal with the staff that wants it?
So in my union they represent a large county organization and different departments. Unfortunately one department is pretty represented on the bargaining committee while our department delegates didn't get elected. Last contract this department got a lot of stuff while we just got 3 years of cola and medical increases. So we're planning on voting against the contract if our department doesn't get the same things as the other department
