Experience Frequent Urination. It was caffeine.

A while ago I asked this sub why B1 caused reduced urinary frequency. From 2022-2025 I was running to the bathroom every 30 minutes and drinking 2 liters of water a night. I would get up 7-8 times before going to bed. I'd be drinking water nonstop all day and I still developed dehydration headaches almost every night.

In 2025, I started taking B1 supplements and it went from 30 minutes to 1-2 hours. Still not great, but much better.

I quit caffeine on a bit of a whim about a month ago. Within a week I could go 3-5 hours between bathroom breaks, and even near the end of those few hours, I don't HAVE to go, I just prefer to.

I did NOT drink caffeine every day, and I only had one cup (10-14 oz) when I did drink it, but my symptoms were persistent even on off days. These symptoms showed up over a year and only resolved after a week of absolutely no caffeine intake.

For the record, caffeine can cause B vitamin deficiency, and also magnesium, calcium, iron, vitamin D, and zinc (all of which I had; my doctor had tested me for celiac at one point). Just thought maybe this would help someone.

(Source: The book Caffeine Blues by Stephen Cherniske is thoroughly researched and outlines many of the unknown health risks of caffeine. Most people will experience few noticeable ill effects).

I'm about to quit all supplements

Literally every single time I take a supplement some bs happens

Vitamin D3 = Insomnia

K2 = Crazy heart palpitations

Magnesium glycinate = Insomnia and anxiety

L theanine = A headache that lasted 3 days

The list goes on and on, these are just examples of the commonly mentioned supplements.

Studies are also contradicting. For example some say you need 10k iu D3 while others say 4k is the max for adults. I have seen injections of 250k IU lol

Bad lifestyle and bad diet SO LETS TAKE A PILL TO FIX IT. Shit makes no sense. I'm slowly coming to the conclusions that its all a scam

Untill science UNIVERSALLY agrees on the same dosage and protocol all of this shit is just an experiment

General Question What’s Currently In Your Sup Cabinet????

Figured I’d share my current rotation. I’m currently working on transitioning to more unflavored supplements such as Protein, Creatine, Eaas etc. don’t need the Sucralose. I also keep Magnesium Glycinate and Tongkat Ali in rotation.

Effect of a nutritional supplement (omega 3&6 and antioxidants) on hair loss in women

Thumbnail pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov
• Upvotes

Abstract

Background: Female pattern hair loss is a frequent and distressing condition.

Aim: To evaluate vs. control, the effects on hair loss of a 6-month supplementation with specific omega 3&6 and antioxidants.

Methods: One hundred and twenty healthy female subjects participated in this 6-month, randomized, comparative study. The primary endpoint was the change in hair density evaluated on standardized photographs. Secondary endpoints included changes in telogen hair percentage and diameter distribution of anagen hair (>40 µm vs. ≤40 µm) measured by trichogram. Overall changes in hair density and diameter were also measured by trichometer and by subjects' self-assessment.

Results: After 6 months of treatment, photograph assessment demonstrated a superior improvement in the supplemented group (P < 0.001). The telogen hair percentage was significantly (P < 0.001) reduced in the supplemented group. The proportion of nonvellus anagen hair (>40 µm) increased compared to the control group. The trichometer index increased in the supplemented group, while it decreased in the control group. A large majority of supplemented subjects reported a reduction in hair loss (89.9% of subjects at 6 months), as well as an improvement in hair diameter (86.1%) and hair density (87.3%).

Conclusion: A 6-month supplementation with omega 3&6 and antioxidants acts efficiently against hair loss in improving hair density and reducing the telogen percentage and the proportion of miniaturized anagen hair. Objectively measured improvements were confirmed by the subjects' perception of efficacy.

General Question Is glucosamine really replenishing knees or just another useless supplement claim?

Any time knee pain comes up, someone brings up glucosamine. The selling point is that cartilage is made of it. Eat it and you top up your knees. But others argue digestion breaks everything down into basic nutrients, and worn knee damage can’t actually heal.

By that logic I could eat hair for hair growth and I wouldn’t go bald. That’s why I can’t tell if people who swear by it are seeing actual cartilage repair or just less pain.

So anyone who lifts heavy or plays sports on hard surfaces. If glucosamine works for you, what have you noticed? What else do you do for your knees?

Collagen v Gelatin(e)

What was your experience with gelatin(e) v collagen like in terms of the observable effect it had on your body?

I am confused.

I had been trying collagen (more than 11lb's or 5kg's) and gave up on the collagen as I feel I did not notice anything at all apart from a lightening of my wallet.

I recently watched a health influencers youtube on gelatine, despite my natural instincts in conducting my own research and checking the quality of the science (which is very poor for either products btw), I thought, why not, ill give it a try as it was already in my cooking ingredients cupboard, and im desperate to relieve pain (tendonitis, muscle and joint).

I am 4 days in, on a 10g to 15g dose per day spread across the day; I have noticed significant pain reduction in muscle and tendons - from a scale of 10 to 1, it would be a 9 to a 3. The effects were noticeable next day on first dose vs being in consistently high 9 pain for weeks/months.

I hope this is not a placebo - has anyone else had similar experiences?

It does not make sense, as gelatine is denatured collagen

F26, What should I add or change?

• Upvotes

Hey guys,

I'm doing hobby bodybuilding and im unsure whether there are supplements that might help me.

I have frequent issues with brain fog and daytime sleepiness.

I like to use products from Amazon and the German store DM.

I take 10 drops of methylen blue in the morning and most of my supps, expect the magnesium before bed.

I use d3 almost year round because I don't see much sunlight and only stop it in like 3 summer months.

I take Iron supplements only in the 2 weeks after my period starts and then stop because I have had good iron levels doing it so.

Recommendations Am I actually good?

Hey all,

Got all my levels done recently. 34 year old male here. I'm constantly tired and lacking energy, and I generally assume it's because I have an 9 month old going through bouts of heavy teething pain and waking us often through the night and so im not sleeping well and havent been for a few months now (just general dad life).

All of my results except liver function (very slightly elevated but apparently no cause for concern) but I was wondering if anything here could do with increasing anyway? I know the average isn't always super helpful but im really new to a lot of this sort of stuff so any advice is welcome. I know sleeping more always helps but it isn't always an option at the moment and may not be for a while 🥲

Experience What does Vitamin B2 powder riboflavin taste like?

If it’s an oral supplement, you can usually mix the measured dose into a little food or a drink, according to its label. Some products also explicitly allow taking the powder directly by mouth; has anyone tried and and what did it taste like? was it hard to swallow? Thank you!

Recommendations Discussion: Universal stack for young men (no budget constraints)

Good day, y'all,

I would like to preface this by saying that nutrition, sleep and behavior are absolutely crucial for health and longevity. However, we can agree that in order to succeed or deal with the current day work obligations, while staying healthy and mentally sharp requires a step further. Hence, I would like to have a discussion about a specific demographic, younger men, 18-40 age group. Which set of supplements would you recommend for this group to take in order to prevent health deterioration, improve focus and sleep, and be physically fit? I understand there are fundamental supplements that target deficiencies, but there are others that seem to provide what food does not. Important to note that there are no budget constraints.

My current stack includes: Creatine Monohydrate, Magnesium L-Threonate, Omega-3, ZMA (Magnesium Citrate, B6 and Zinc), Boron, Glycine, L-Theanine, Cordyceps Militaris (interesting VO2 data), NAC (quitting nicotine pouches) and Kanna (trial), as well as Alpha-GPC on some days. I am further interested in SAMe, Taurine and L-Tyrosine, had a decent experience with it. For the gym I take Protein Whey/Casein (after training/in the evening) and looking for a pre-workout with L-Citrulline and Beta Alanine, avoiding Alpha-GPC here to limit further TMAO build up.

Would love to hear what you lot have to add, I have read from a ton of brilliant theorists and practitioners in this sub, and gained immensely valuable knowledge.

I miss how easy talking to people felt on L-theanine

I overthink a lot, and some days I really dread facing the day. When I tried 300 mg of L-theanine in the evening, the first night felt unusually good. I felt warm and calm and actually laughed because I was happy.

I kept taking the same amount each evening. That first-night feeling never came back, but for the next few days I still had more energy. I was less shy, talking came more easily, and I didn’t hate the thought of facing the day. Around day five, I was feeling more negative and less energetic again, almost back where I started.

The easier conversations are what I keep thinking about. I actually like pressure at work. It’s the anxiety and getting stuck in my own head that wear me down. Those few days felt like a bit of relief from that.

For anyone who had that social benefit from theanine, did it stay with you beyond the first few days?

General Question I want to start taking iron but don’t know which brand to go with or if it matters

So I’m looking at adding an iron supplement to the vitamins I take because I think (I’m not certain) I have an iron deficiency, only because I get dizzy quite often nearing/ on my time of the month (also for the people who understand I have pcos so I lose a bit more “iron” than the next person)

I got some labs done awhile back and it was suggested I take the following vitamins (I have been and have noticed a huge improvement across the board)

- Bronson Milk Thistle Silymarin Marianum & Dandelion Extract

- Integrative Therapeutics Cortisol Manager (Ashwagandha)

- Ancient Nutrition Women's Hormones Capsules (Organic Reishi Mycelium, Organic Fermented Chaste Tree (Vitex agnus-castus,) Berry, Organic Ashwagandha Root and Leaf Extract, Organic Fermented Black Cohosh Root, Organic Fermented Schizandra Berry)

- Source Naturals DIM (Diindolylmethane), 100 mg

- Bronson Boron 3 mg as Albion Boroganic Glycine

- adrenal restore

- mMagbicarb (magnesium)

- vitamin D3

My real question is if there would be any issue that anyone knows of from taking an iron supplement and or if anyone knows of a good one to take that I can actually absorb 😅

Experience Cranberry pill side effects?

I (26f) took 2 cranberry pills with water tonight. Last bit of food was 2 hours prior, just a small portion of leftover Mac and cheese. It had been a while since I took my last cranberry pills too.

Anyways I had sudden onset of strong nausea, cramping, and then a rather urgent and painful watery #2, all within 40 minutes of taking them. I'd already had a bowel movement earlier today too, which is all I usually need. I feel absolutely empty in a bit of a sick way rn.

Anyone else relate? What did I do wrong? The dosing says to take 2 omg and I have taken 2 once before!

Edit : I took 2 soft gels of the Spring Valley Cranberry and Vitamin C kind. But I also remembered I'd had an orange vitamin c gummy earlier too!

Phosphatidylserine solved my sleep issues

I didn't have major sleep issues, but I'd often have trouble falling asleep, staying asleep, or would wake up very early wide awake. About 6 months ago I started taking 200mg of Phosphatidylserine 30mins before bed and have slept great ever since. Benadryl and Melatonin would both knock me out but the quality of my sleep subjectively felt poorer. With Phosphatidylserine I feel like I'm actually getting good sleep.

I've tried a lot of random supplements for various purposes and this is one of the few not-prescription/illegal ones that has actually been effective for me. I'm not sure what the mode of action is. Apparently it lowers cortisol. My cortisol has been in the normal range on my blood tests, but it can vary throughout the day so who knows what it's doing at night time.

Recommendations Supplements for seasonal depression/luteal phase?

Hi all, today I woke up feeling incredibly depressed, with absolutely no motivation or zest for life. It wasn't because I was tired or wanted to sleep longer; I just felt this overwhelming sense of emptiness. I'm wondering whether it could be the start of seasonal depression (I live in the Netherlands) or whether it's related to being in my luteal phase. Either way, do you have any recommendations for supplements that might help? Thank you in advance!
