safety Mass Surveillance AI Camera Scandal Hits DFW Metroplex
Howdy fellow Friscoans.
We're a Dallas, Texas based nonprofit organization (HINAC) focused on the security, privacy, censorship, and surveillance implications of modern day technology being surreptitiously woven into the fabric of American society.
We're submitting this post to inform you of a recent scandal involving approximately 80,000 AI cameras being used by over 5,000 law enforcement departments across the United States of America resulting in stalking, false imprisonment, and protests.
An investigative journalist and privacy/security researcher named Benn Jordan recently discovered numerous Flock Safety Automatic License Plate Reader (ALPR) cameras whose video feeds were publicly accessible online using a default administrative account, no login required.
It gets worse.
His proof-of-concept video demonstration showed how easy it was for him to use the camera's pan-tilt-zoom (PTZ) capabilities and identify individuals, disclose sensitive information displayed on phone screens, and track routes of individual cars, over extended time intervals.
It gets even worse.
An anonymous person requested video footage of their own city's cameras, which the city subsequently denied. That person took their city to court and the judge ruled that since the cameras are taxpayer funded, the videos and information on them is also considered publicly accessible.
It is going to get even worse.
Amazon Ring just announced a partnership with Flock Safety and rumor has it, they are interested in acquiring Flock Safety.
Meaning, the broad adoption of AI-powered consumer technologies like Ring, coupled with city governments adopting Flock's AI-powered object recognition and large scale database integration, a first-of-its-kind Orwellian surveillance system could become a reality in the very near future.
See where and when you're being surveilled by visiting this Flock Camera Map tool provided by the 501c(3) nonprofit organization Banish Big Brother (see map image). And if you're scared afterwards, let that fear turn to anger.
Contact your city leaders and express your concerns ASAP. Make it known that we will not tolerate involuntary mass surveillance in our city, nor will we tolerate the lack of transparency and accountability from our leaders who allowed this to happen.
The sooner we stop this, the better. Let's stand up to mass surveillance together.

politics Keith Self Says ‘It's My Seat.’ Why Won't He Debate Evan Hunt?
With Election Day approaching, TX-03 still hasn't had a debate between incumbent Keith Self and Democratic challenger Evan Hunt.
Both recently participated in separate interviews with Context Corner, discussing Sharia, religious freedom, the Constitution and congressional priorities.
Their answers differed considerably, but neither had the opportunity to challenge the other's statements.
The editorial explores what a direct exchange could reveal and why voters should have the opportunity to hear both candidates on the same stage.

politics CBS identifies permit holder in mystery Texas mailers; company owner contributed to Trump’s political operation
CBS News Texas reports USPS identified Three Z Printing in Illinois as the company whose bulk-mail permit was used for the mystery transgender-related pamphlets reaching Texas households.
Owner Bill Zerrusen contributed to Trump’s political operation, according to federal records. His son Matt helps lead the company and co-founded the Catholic organization Newman Ministry.
Questions remain about who ordered and paid for the mailers—and how a company with those ties became connected to pamphlets presented as transgender student resources during early voting.

food Little Moose Creamery has their grand opening tomorrow!
Their toasted marshmallow soft serve is the best. The owners are very kind too. I thought I would post about it because they are a small, family-owned business, and maybe this would help them out a bit!

business (Academic Survey) How do you choose your hotels when traveling? (Quick 2-min student survey)
Hi everyone!
I am a high school business student here in Frisco, and I am currently working on my DECA Hospitality and Tourism Operations Research (HTOR) project.
My paper focuses on a market analysis of the hotel industry (specifically looking at Hyatt Hotels and how they comapre against rival hotels). I am trying to gather data on what factors people care about when booking a hotel room and what drives your choice of hotel when traveling.
If you have a quick 2–3 minutes to spare while on reddit, your feedback would be a massive help to my research!

safety Frisco pd unmarked cars
I didn’t know Frisco PD used unmarked cars. I saw this silver Chevy truck near Panther Creek today, to be fair, it might’ve been an officer working off duty. I know they have an event going on around PGA, but it was interesting to see.

community Rehoming Cat to good home
Hello, my family is unable to continue to care for our cat Brownie. Due to work schedules and elderly parents we are unable to give our cat the attention he needs. He is a good boy, sits outside and inside, has all vaccinations up to date however needs to be fed or likes someone to sit with him when he eats. Very calm and chill nature, enjoys laying around in the sun, can convert him to a just indoor cat if that’s what you prefer. I can provide litter box food and supplies. He is self sufficient just needs to be fed and enjoys company when he eats (just sit with him, usually my mother does but she is full time caretaker of disabled family member and it is getting hard for her). He is a very good boy, loves to look at the birds outside, be brushed, and nap. perhaps a student or a family who would like to adopt him. Thank you.

politics Texas GOP chairman condemns transgender mailers, but who actually paid for them?
Someone organized and financed the controversial transgender mailers arriving at Texas homes. Their identity still hasn't been publicly established.
Collin County GOP Chairman Byron Henry says he doesn't know who's responsible and condemns the materials. He also argues that candidates' positions on the contents deserve greater attention.
Rep. Jeff Leach has taken a broader approach, asking the attorney general to investigate whoever is responsible, regardless of political affiliation.
Now SnailWorks has confirmed being hired to track the pamphlets but won't identify its customer.
Henry's complete responses and the latest findings:

Does anyone know of a local place that does this? TIA

jobs Anyone have anything on entry level jobs? If you get money for referrals i’ll take a referral. I dont have a college degree and my work experience is manager at raising canes, a couple of personal training jobs, and a year of serving/bartender experience.
I’ve tried several jobs since my unemployment benefits with no luck so I need to stand out more and the only thing left that could help is referrals.

Tuesday belonged to Mikko Rantanen. Thursday, Roope Hintz scored with two minutes left in regulation and again in overtime to beat Winnipeg 3–2.
Rantanen supplied two assists, Johnston scored his first of the season, and Dallas killed all four Winnipeg power plays. A busy night behind a familiar final score.

community People using Wing delivery - please identify your use cases
I’m interested in why I’m being subjected to overhead drone noise and I’m trying to understand the use cases. Beautiful evening out between the drones zipping overhead.
I don’t get it - who lives so far away or is inconvenienced by their own circumstances that getting to the nearest store is too much for them?
If you use Wing delivery from Walmart then please help me understand your use case(s) for using that service.

rant Weird Voting Interaction
I went to Fire Station #10 to perform my civic duty today. When it was my turn to get checked in, I walked up to the volunteer, I guess expecting to be greeted, but instead was met with silence. Nbd, I know the drill; no need for niceties I suppose. As I'm unzipping my wallet to get my ID out, the volunteer says "The legal one, please". Huh? Lmao like.. did I lowkey just get racially profiled? I'm pretty racially ambiguous, sure, but like what a weird thing to say. I just looked at her a bit stunned and handed her my ID without responding and then she said something along the lines of I'm not playing around. I guess it was a joke but genuinely what was funny about that especially in this political climate? Even stranger that she was a POC herself. Anyway, to my fellow young folk, show up and vote regardless of weird comments and vibes.

inquiries Psychologist?
My husband has been in a depressive episode for a week or so now, but not suicidal or expressing thoughts of self harm. He’s had them before but this time he is not handling it as well as before.
I’m worried. Who do I call? He went to his old therapist but didn’t find it helpful. Foes anyone have a recommendation for a good psychologist who will help him and not just parrot back the things he says? This is all new territory for me.
