Subreddit / Meta Subreddit 2026-2027 Mod Team Hiring

Hello, lovely community!

Another year, another Eurovision season, and now with Eurovision Song Contest Asia in the mix!

With the continuing global expansion of the contest, we would like our community's mod team to better reflect the variety of nations taking part. To that end, we are opening our 2026-2027 Eurovision season hiring process today.

While we are especially looking for candidates based in timezones in Asia, the Americas, and Oceania, all are still welcome to apply!

What does it entail?

Moderating is a volunteer, part-time position in which you'll help manage the day-to-day operations of this community. No experience is required, and most of the work is not too different from your regular experience of browsing Reddit. Unless you decide to help out with larger, optional behind-the-scenes projects, anyway. ;)

How much time do I need to commit?

We get it, life is busy. We do expect you to check in every once in a while to help out, but you'll set your own "hours". As we're fond of saying, real life always comes first! That being said, it would probably only be slightly more time than you already spend on Reddit as is.

How do I know if I'm selected?

We will go through applications on a rolling basis and will reach out to you if selected! Many people do not handle rejection well, so we do not generally send out notices that you were not selected. If you were not selected in a previous year's hiring round, you are still welcome to try applying again this year!

Please do note that all mods we "hire" start out on a temporary trainee basis to test if they're a good fit and learn the ropes first before they become a full mod.

Where do I apply?

Right here! It should only take about 10-15 minutes to do so.

What if I have a question?

You can ask in the comments below or write to us via modmail, and we'll get back to you as soon as possible.

Thank you all, but especially to those who apply! 😄

📰 News 🇳🇱 Netherlands will not participate in Eurovision 2027

Translated with Google Translate:

Today, after consultation with the College of Broadcasters, the NPO has decided to press the pause button in the preparations for the Eurovision Song Contest. This means that participation in the next edition will be cancelled. After discussions with broadcasters, there currently appears to be insufficient support to participate in 2027. The Eurovision Song Contest will continue to be shown via the public broadcaster NOS, including Dutch commentary and preview.

Jet de Ranitz, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the NPO: "We understand that this is a disappointment for everyone who is looking forward to a Dutch entry in the Eurovision Song Contest. As NPO, we believe it is important that we serve all Dutch people, including the group of people who care about the Eurovision Song Contest and would like to see the Netherlands participate again. We are convinced that the Eurovision Song Contest belongs to the public broadcaster, as one of the largest international cultural events around music, connection and diversity."

De Ranitz continues: "In our coordinating role, we have had discussions with the broadcasters to investigate whether there are any broadcasters that would like to enable the participation of a Dutch artist. In those discussions, we initially experienced sufficient support to return. Unfortunately, we were unable to find a good form for this. As a result, we have to conclude that it is currently too early to participate in the Eurovision Song Contest in 2027. Due to the sensitivities surrounding the themes that are currently playing, we have decided to pass at this time to put it in its place.”

Jurre Bosman, Media Director at the NPO: "The Eurovision Song Contest is part of the public broadcaster. We have known for some time that Israel's participation evokes different reactions in society and causes discussion and division. This is also the case among broadcasters and employees and we understand that sensitivity. We only want to send an artist or artists and employees to the festival if they can count on full support from one or more broadcasters. Only in this way can they properly promote the importance of music, culture, diversity and connection. We have that responsibility. support each other, which is why the NPO has decided, after consultation with the College of Broadcasters, to refrain from participation in 2027.”

Bosman continues: "We continue to discuss the future of the Eurovision Song Contest with the EBU. Because we are convinced that the event can once again become a place of music and connection, where there is room to discuss social themes. We see that the EBU is willing to take those important steps. We as NPO will continue to contribute to this."

NTR's statutory task

Under the current media law, NTR has the legal task of covering gaps in programming. The NPO therefore has the option to appoint NTR to take care of the participation in the Eurovision Song Contest. “We did not do that,” says De Ranitz. “If we conclude that the subject is so sensitive that it causes such divided reactions, I think it is irresponsible to oblige a broadcaster to organize the 2027 event.”

Eurovision Song Contest on public broadcaster

The Eurovision Song Contest will continue to be shown on the public broadcaster for all Eurovision fans in the Netherlands. Just like this year's edition, NOS broadcasts the semi-finals and final with Dutch commentary.

🪀 Junior Eurovision Junior Eurovision Must Fix the Voting System.

I know it is a silly kids competition, but I feel like we need to talk about how Junior Eurovision is broken.

I say this because for the televote, voters vote for three countries, which leads to a more dispersed result which makes it harder to get a "bad" televote score.

Take this years results. The difference behind the most and least jury points was 108 points, while the difference between most and least televote points was 56 points.

The problem is that this means that countries who struggle in the jury cannot recover. North Macedonia tied for 8th in the televote and still placed last overall.

This problem is further worsened by the fact that 4 countries (Georgia, Armenia, France and Spain) control the jury for the most part, which has caused those countries to disproportionately succeed in the contest recently.

It is time to change the system to even the playing field.

💬 Discussion Can a country refuse to host the contest if a country in an armed-conflict (Israel-like) participates ?

Given the recent news that NPO reversed it's decision about Eurovision 2027, I have the feeling that none of the boycotters will return, but for a few weeks, I was thinking an unlikely scenario where one or all the five returns and wins but stated that if Israel was still allowed to participates, they would not host.

Imagine a random country like Ireland suddenly returns to Eurovision, they ofc received a huge-backlash from the public but against all odds, they win the contest, but given the pro-palestine landscape in Irish politics and within RTE, the latter announce that if ESC will be cancelled if Israel still takes part.

What would happen in this scenario, will the EBU tolerates this choice or sanctions them ?

📊 Results / Statistics Runner-up of Eurovision 1956 possibly discovered after 70 years?

In this video by YouTuber ESC Papão, they and their friend have dug through old newspapers and magazines from 1956 for years before discovering both how many points Lys Assia won with, as well as the second placing song of Eurovision 1956!!!

As far as I myself can tell the sources and research checks out, but of course I can’t be 100% certain of its authenticity with the information I have. The newspaper cited can be found in the description of the YouTube video. Provided it is true though, it’s a huge and great discovery.

Just wanted to share this little clip of Dara and Naré on that giant unicorn where Dara says she feels like a mom

It's sooo sweet and wholesome

It's so wonderful to see an ESC winner who is so supportive and kind to the jesc contestants. Her highlighting the brave kids on the stage and saying to Lou that shes awesome and inspires her was such a sweet moment.

I really loved the transition from Lou starting Bangaranga to DARA taking over with her dance. I thought it worked really well, and seeing a French Junior Eurovision winner and a Bulgarian Eurovision winner performing together was such a cool moment!

I haven't seen many people talking about it, so I was wondering if anyone else enjoyed it as much as I did.

💬 Discussion Has the EBU ever considered releasing live albums of the contest performances?

I've been thinking, considering how live versions differ from studio versions in terms of vocal performances, plus the energy from the crowd generally amping up the atmosphere, would a live album of the contest add anything to a fan's experience? It wouldn't be a huge expense for the EBU to edit it together and release it as a streaming/digital release only, and would allow fans to relive the contest without needing YouTube or the DVD. And whilst some live performances are better best forgotten, hey, it's all part of the Eurovision experience. I mean, they could use a jury performance audio if it was better and no one would really care. What do you think? Would that be something you would listen to?

💬 Discussion Need help with Ethno Pop songs

I am an Australian vocal/music teacher and need help with some song suggestions for a student of mine- she needs to have some killer songs for her final exams in 10 months time.

She has an amazing ear for harmonies and languages, so I am after a song that uses that Eastern European women’s choir sound in more of a pop package that she could solo with a choir (of more of my top students backing her.)

Think ‘Andromeda’ or Alkonost of Balkan from Doro 2021. Songs with clashing harmonies that utilise that ‘white’ vocal sound.

It doesn’t have to be from Eurovision, but you lovely people would know the vibe that I am talking about.

I would love it if there was a choir arrangement for ladies available for me to teach from.

… or extra bonus if the piece is in Polish, as my student is Polish.

Thanks so much. I just don’t know where to look to find this kind of thing- especially in Australia!

🪀 Junior Eurovision I didn't expect to enjoy JESC more than I expected it to be

I watched Eurovision since 2023 and this year's Junior Eurovision and oh my god it blew me in a way that I didn't expect it to be. I even went online to vote for some of my favourites. While my friend that introduced me to Eurovision said to expect more 'kids bops and ballads', I don't harbour any distaste or unfavourable acts because I see these kids performing in their own way. All of the submissions are decent and some of them even made me cried. It definitely made my night and I'm so happy I'm able to finally follow up with JESC. Btw, my top 3 are San Marino, Armenia and North Macedonia. What about yours?

Although, I kinda irk with the tremendous amount of AI used, the stage problem before Cyprus performance, glitchy LED stage and the mic problem from Lou Deleuze, I am still able to enjoy it regardless.

🪀 Junior Eurovision What happened to Cyprus yesterday?

Last night at Junior Eurovision we witnessed the longest "stage not ready" in the history of ESC and JESC, as Cyprus did not perform immediately and made us wait for almost 7 minutes.

But what exactly happened? The stage wasn't very complex, there was just Harry without any props or scenery.

Is there anyone among you, perhaps present in the arena, who can say what happened?

🪀 Junior Eurovision Is it normal for Eurovisionworld to put subjective opinions in their JESC reporting?

Thumbnail
eurovisionworld.com
104 Upvotes

From the “History of Junior Eurovision” section at the bottom of their winners announcement page:

“Back in 2000, broadcaster Danish Radio (DR) held a song contest for children, and in 2002 the "MGP Nordic" was held jointly with Sweden and Norway. The EBU picked up the idea for a song contest featuring children, and the first Junior Eurovision Song Contest was held in 2003 in Copenhagen, with 16 participating countries.

Back then, Junior Eurovision was based on entertainment for kids around Europe - on their level. It has since transformed itself into a copy of the ‘adult Eurovision,’ lacking the soul and unique atmosphere it once had.”

Whether this is true or not, I’m not used to their articles being so subjective? I’ve followed them for years regarding standard ESC news, and usually if something like this is said, it’s because another source or person is being quoted. Otherwise it tends to just be hard facts about the history of the contests or countries.

It’s odd to me to see the author themselves being a bit bitter regarding the state of JESC, unless I’m just misreading something? I’m more involved in ESC than its junior counterpart; is this just an opinion so widely accepted that a comment like this is normal?
