One Bedroom Apartment, Downtown (Topiary Park), Less Than $900, Available Soon
I recently moved out of my apartment after living there for twelve years due to a new job. There are weekly posts made by people asking for affordable places to rent in the main Columbus subreddit, and it’s hard to beat this place. As far as I am aware, the landlord is making repairs and repainting the unit before listing it, so I wanted to promote it myself until he does. If you’re fine without marble countertops and can appreciate some old building quirks, this place is for you.
This is not a sublease.
Location: 433 E. Town Street, in the Discovery District, directly across from Topiary Park.
Size: The apartment is approximately 650 sq. ft. with 1 bedroom, 1 bathroom, a small kitchen, high ceilings throughout, and large windows overlooking the park.
Some highlights:
• Affordable rent: My rent was under $900, even with parking.
• Great location: The Columbus Metropolitan Library is across the street, the riverfront is about a 15-20 minute walk away, while the Ohio Theatre is about 10-15 mins.
• Quiet street and building: The street is very peaceful, and the building itself is extremely quiet. There are only around 10 to 15 units, and the older construction means the walls are nice and thick.
• Parking options: There is a small, free parking lot behind the building with space for approximately five cars. There are also carriage garages available to rent for around $40 per month.
• Heating and cooling: Heat is provided by radiators, so you don't pay separately for it. This means you’ll have a warm place for no extra money come winter. There is no central AC, but window units are allowed. I only needed one window unit to keep my apartment comfortable, and my electric bill typically increased by around $50 to $60 during the summer.
• Laundry in the basement: There is a shared washer and dryer downstairs. In my years living there, it was rare to run into someone else using them when I needed to.
• Building policies: No pets and no smoking.
Again, there is not a listing, but this older unit listing in the building gives a better example of the interior. Yes, the walls are yellow.
All that being said, the building is owned by Loving Realtors. This is another perk, meaning a large corporation does not own it.
If you want more details, give Matt (landlord) a call.
I can also give some tips if you happen to get the place.
