Colorado College experience.
I am not sure if this is a normal thing at other colleges, but I experienced extreme bullying and harassment from my roommate while I was at CC. In summary, I spoke with my RA, tried to fix my relationship with my roommate, and when it became too extreme, I brought it to the Office of the Dean of the Students, and even filed a police report. The staff handling the case basically told me that the whole thing was my fault, and I was inciting it, or at least that’s what it felt like when I met with them. Maybe I was being dramatic, but I honestly felt like the victim blaming was extremely inappropriate, and I was told by my friends that because my roommate belonged to a certain racial group, they would basically drop her case because they don't want to bring any drama to the school. It’s made me extremely depressed, forced me into isolation since I wasn't sure who in the school I could trust, and I've been contemplating ending it all.
I wanted to write it out so I can finally get it off my chest and begin the healing process, but it’s hard because of how I feel. This school has given me so many opportunities, but the way my harassment case was handled, and the way I was treated by the people I thought would help me, put a bad taste in my mouth. I love this school, I am truly grateful, but I hate how I was treated to get these opportunities. I left feeling like I can never trust anyone again. Maybe I'm the only one that feels this way, but I wanted to get it off my chest so I can finally move on after all these years. Please take this as a lesson that I've learned, so you can stay safe if you are a current student or a prospective student.
