As is tradition, the Falcons will follow this game up by forgetting how to play football against Bucs.

53

u/antantanterlay Falcons 23h ago

i think that we'll fucking win the next game and lose the next two. and somehow, somehow, fuck up juust enough to get a top 9 pick.

12

u/vashed Falcons 21h ago

How can you not be romantic about the Falcons?

14

u/Due_Bluebird3562 Falcons 22h ago

We are easily the most confusing team in the sport. We play like shit against shit teams and play like Super Bowl contenders versus anyone who remotely sniffs the playoffs. It just doesn't make sense to me.

7

u/rloch Falcons 19h ago

This is a fun stat I found the other day. Since 2017 we have gone into 24 games with a winning record, 12 of those were in 2017. We get to .500 then drop one or two.. year after year.

The Falcons could beat the 85 Bears then turn around and get blown out by Bryce Young at home

Bryce Young just sorta has our number I have to admit

Ive been reliably informed by NFC South fans that Bryce cooks the Falcons

u/Shmexy Falcons 23h ago

The first game this season doesn’t count because cooper Rush is a terrorist. I think they’re last game this season.. would be wild if it was for the division

But also they got smoked by the Bucs… so who knows

This is true for any Falcons team in the past 15 years.

4 turnovers, constant penalties, deserved to lose

158

u/A_Brown_Trout 49ers 23h ago

Don’t forget another missed PAT. If there was ever a game for us to deserve to lose, it was that one.

master class by shanahan, have all your mistakes in one regular season game against a non-divisional opponent

Yep, people wanna blame the refs all they want but fact of the matter is that they got outplayed and made to many dumb mistakes and one especially bad pick by Purdy at the end.

31

u/N14106_ 49ers 49ers 23h ago

Absolutely. The back to back fumble was the most backbreaking.

21

u/stephenjr311 49ers 23h ago

I’m not sure where he was throwing there, probably a wrong route from our wrs but that lb just made an absolutely great play too. I’d put the first pick on Brock more than that one.

When so many players are out, you lose any room for error and we made like 15 errors.

The absolute CATHARSIS of Kyle Shanahan having to watch Atlanta calmly run the ball 3 times and kick a field goal when leading late in the 4th quarter to ice the game...

I need a cigarette after that

It'll never erase SB51, but holy fuck that felt good

161

u/friscotowisco 49ers 23h ago

Thanks to our kicker, that FG ensured the two score game. Eddy P has missed more XPs this season (4), than FGs (3).

56

u/dougsaucy 49ers 23h ago

Legit question, why do Falcons fans hold Shanahan more responsible for that collapse than Dan Quinn?

76

u/BargainBraves 23h ago

When Julio made the catch that put us in FG range up 8 with a very reliable kicker.....there is no excuse to not run it 3 times and take your FG and go up 11 points. Kyle couldn't help himself and messed it up. My reason for the vitriol is that while the team and the fanbase had to deal with the fallout, which is still felt 10 years later, Kyle was already on his way to San Fran and had it relatively easy. It's like lighting a match and leaving before everything catches fire. Great offensive mind, but he didn't finish his job in Atlanta.

Playing the Falcons when everyone expects them to lose is the most dangerous game in football

43

u/MarkerMagnum 49ers 23h ago

Falcons at 2-4 were 2.5 point underdogs against a 6-0 SF team.

I don’t think anybody was under the impression that the falcons couldn’t win.

u/stacyorjessie 49ers Cardinals 23h ago

Well, that was the most obvious trap game ever.

That being said, Lynch needs to make a call for a WR NOW. Turnovers and bad play (looking at you Jack Jones and Cowing) aside, it's so obvious Purdy and Shanahan had no faith in their receivers throughout the game (I'm surprised Christian Kirk wasn't even targeted once). Also, we need to start having talks about our defense (which always turns to shit the moment Bosa is out) and special teams...

10

u/fordandfitzroy 49ers 23h ago

i'm not sure Kirk even played many snaps. I feel like I only saw him out there a few times.

u/ARM7501 49ers 21h ago

WR, sure, but bring me Buckner. This D-line played well against the Seahawks no question, but the Commies suck and this was their first time going against a semi-competent line and they completely collapsed. Now, the fact that Jack Jones couldn't cover anything without committing a penalty didn't help and we had major issues in the flats against these guys, but we need more consistent pressure.

21

u/giving_nothing 23h ago

That Watkins TD would’ve been nice but two picks from Purdy, a defensive penalty riddled meltdown, missed kicks, everyone fumbling, and it taking until desperation mode to throw a ball at any WR is how you lose a football game.

The 49ers continue to suck in Atlanta I guess.

Silver lining is that this loss is heading into the bye week, and they can clean up all the dogshit they displayed in this game.

However, Falcons played an incredible game and that defense was masterful, 4 fucking takeaways. However whoever is calling plays on offense gotta go, you have fucking Bijan, use him!

Respect to the Falcons, but I’m not even mad at this one. Short week, down to our WR 5 and 6, more than a few shaky calls, and four turnovers.

If that’s what it takes for us to lose by nine, then I like our chances the rest of the season.

On to the Raiders.

Definitely felt like Atlanta had a lot of black magic today or maybe moreso players stepping up a lot on defense, making some hero plays... Same day they wear the Bird Reich uniforms 🧐 Heil Falcons ubermensch buff?

u/mrnikkoli Falcons 23h ago

People comparing this to Nazi Germany is such a whack take. Like you have to force yourself to even kinda see it. I swear it was probably Saints fans who thought it would be funny to try to get the rest of the league to cancel our favorite uniforms and y'all just bought it lol

u/kidzbop6969 49ers 23h ago

So frustrating to lose such a winnable game. 4 turnovers (3 in scoring opportunities), missed xp, 4 flags on 3rd down. The falcons played a good game. Niners need personal help. I'm fucking tired of watching Jacob Cowing.

9

u/Electronic-Island-14 Vikings 23h ago

why do you teams insist on scoring TDs? are you all stupid?

9

u/Myhtological Falcons 23h ago

God damn Bates has ball punching down to a science.

8

u/DreamWunder 23h ago

Purdy has 4 ints for the season and 2 of them are from targeting bum Cowing

9

u/SucksForYouGeek 49ers 23h ago

And both on plays where Cowing practically gave up

The falcons are significantly better then last year. If they don't start the year wish Rush they have a comfortable division lead.

As it turns out, it's really hard to win with your WR 7, 8 and 9.

8

u/Ice_Cream_Killer 49ers 23h ago

Lmao, that's why I found it funny when people called it trap game. Like no, the Niners are definitely beatable right now with those receivers.💀

Welp, kinda wrote this game off going in due to the cross country flight, the short week, and injuries piling up. Really annoying they had every chance to win it though and decided to turn it over 4 times

Poor showing from the defense. Couldn't stop them unless they committed a mistake. When we DID stop them we committed a penalty like we did last week vs the commies

Offense had too many turnovers as well. It should get better after we get guys back.

u/PM_Me_Modal_Jazz Falcons 23h ago

Last time the Vikings had a great season in 2024 and people were calling them frauds, I thought it was ridiculous and there was no reason they were being so disrespected, if they come out of today the last undefeated team, I still have to admit they might be frauds

5

u/TherionEater 49ers 23h ago

Meh. Makes sense having both Shanahan and Morris with the Niners playing against Atlanta.

9

u/MilkTeaToasTea 49ers 23h ago

IMO, I had an inkling we'd lose this one considering our WR room. We had multiple chances to make a comeback, but our mistakes outweighed those options and we never capitalized. But it's not the end of the world. We are 6-1, which is not terrible at all going into BYE week. Rest up our guys, iron out the wrinkles, and ready up for the Raiders. GG Atlanta.

Took as bad of a performance as one can imagine to lose to a very dangerous team. Ugly ugly ugly but still 6-1 into the bye so easy to move on

Well 6-1 into the bye is still 6-1. Hopefully we get to play the Falcons in the playoffs

You guys have superbowl hopes, us making the playoffs is our superbowl. Also wanting to play the team you guys just gave up 4 TO to is something

Better to have everything go wrong in a single game than have it spread out I guess. At least we now have the bye to rest up

4

u/SucksForYouGeek 49ers 23h ago

Leave Jack Jones, Cowing, and Ashtyn Davis in Atlanta while you're at it. Let them join the Falcons

Second ever home win for the NFC south this season btw

4

u/KerryUSA Falcons 23h ago

The beauty for both of us is that the east and south being bad means it’s easy for us to get the div or 7th seed

Sure everyone’s ready to panic over Byrce but it’s a lot of season left

West to East 10 AM game on a short week with WR 1-6 out. Scheduled loss and somehow still feels horrible the way it went. Brock just can't throw that pick.
