Browns 5-2 with a -13 point differential. They can't keep getting away with it
69
u/RCM88x Browns 1d ago
The 2020 team finished 11-5 with a -11 point differential.
Since returning in 1999 the Browns have only finished with a positive point differential 3 times, 2002, 2007, and 2023.

When you have a good defense and rely on them then you win close games. The d doesn’t show up and you lose. Differential means nothing the record is the only stat that counts.

Physicality and playing defensive football wins. Just gotta eliminate the offensive penalties and they can keep it going.

u/Sithsponge Browns Browns 1d ago
At least the offense looked good today and it was the defense that had an off game. Or TN's defense is just really bad idk I guess even Shedeur put up close to 400 yards on them last year

I swear Watson has some bizarre dark magic powers this season
He'll look shaky all game then suddenly look like Texans Watson in the final 5 minutes
35
u/Jay_Dubbbs Browns Lions 1d ago
This was probably his best game from that perspective, he wasn’t really bad at any point. The offense overall was pushing the ball more down the field and so the run game finally opened up. Judkins and Sampson both had amazing games
That was the big difference today, finally having a run game because defenses couldn’t stack the box and dare Watson to throw down field.

Bingo. O Line actually looked in sync and having Jud and Dylan Sampson back as the 1-2 combo healthy was great. Can't wait for the team to explode when KC finally gets in the endzone. Always the 1st guy there to celebrate for other guys. Dudes a stud! Go Browns

That was DW4 in his last season at Clemson when he led us to our first natty in 35 years. So many games that year were heart attack inducing. But when the chips were down, he willed the team to a win. I didn’t watch him enough at the Texans to know whether or not he was similar there, but the QB that I see for the Browns this year brings back a lot of fond memories of him at Clemson in 2014-16 when he led us to the top of the CFB mountain.

watson suiting up at all after the allegations is a constant negative aura that reminds us all what the NFL (and frankly the US Govt) will allow NFL players to do and then still get paid millions of dollars to play a game

I have no idea how the Titans lost this game. Not scoring on that drive from the 1 yard line was so bad.

The Titans are elite when it comes to creative ways to lose games!
15
u/br0b1wan NFL 1d ago
So are the Browns, tbh. It just seems like everything is going our way this season
9
u/ForeignSinger3882 1d ago
For what its worth, and this is certainly a cold take but IMO the browns are significantly better than the titans even with their historic reputation + "flukish" wins this season. Under the hood the Browns significantly outgained the Titans this game in terms of yardage, and kind of felt like the browns were in complete control after the first like 5-6 minutes. The 1 yard line stop was huge for the titans, but the browns also had a wide open walk in touch down if (Boston?) catches that wide open pass.

he clearly needs an offseason to focus on his footwork, and unfortunately had a throwing shoulder injury at the end of last season, so that couldn't be this most recent offseason.
we probably bring in a vet to compete next season, but I wouldn't be suprised if Cam improves enough to keep the job.
2
u/ravaille Titans 1d ago
Probably not unfortunately. I'd love to be wrong. Even average QB play would give us 2-3 more wins.

I mean they were outgained by 170 yards. The Browns had a tough first 5 minutes, then were the better team the rest of the way.

At least the Bengals have either won a division or won one where everyone else sucked. Tired of seeing the Browns have a decent season only for everyone else to be good too. Just one year it would be nice if the Browns could win 9 or 10 games and win the division while everyone else struggles to get to five wins.

60
u/Jay_Dubbbs Browns Lions 1d ago
Which is funny because it’s not like he’s actually been good, he’s just been between below-average and average. Which, that’s really all the Browns need because of our defense and the young weapons we’ve acquired in the last few drafts.
25

It's not even like he's been that good they're just eeking out these wins somehow. But I maintain that if he came out after the trade playing like he did in Houston that very few, including Browns fans, would still give a shit about the sexual assaults.
57
u/OutrunTheForeverYeet Colts Colts 1d ago
Outside of his QB picks, Andrew Berry's last two drafts have been spectacular. That's how they're winning. He injected the team with a ton of young talent.
→ More replies (9)17
u/DidAnyoneElseJustCum NFL 1d ago
Yeah and everybody has been very strong right out of the gate. It's rare to be able to rely on your young guys but it feels like every single one has had a standout performance. Both Judkins and KC got there's today. Literally either of Boston or KC would be at the top of the ORoY ladder if they weren't taking touches away from each other but both seem totally selfless.
They're gonna be an amazing 1-2 punch for the next couple of years and hopefully they get a QB to match. I don't think they'll be as good as Chase and Higgins but if the Browns can keep this defense together they don't have to be.

But they’re lying. The Browns aren’t unique
48
u/Himmel-548 Seahawks 1d ago
You're right, their not. People forget that the Pamthers amd Falcons were in a BIDDING WAR to sign him and he was going to sign with the Falcons until the Browns came in with their deal at the 11th hour.
18
u/orange_jupiter Seahawks 1d ago
This is the truth. The Browns organisation is not even uniquely bad, other teams wanted him (though they might not have done the guaranteed contract).
14
u/BlurryGojira Browns 1d ago
We’re morally bankrupt for wanting him. We’re dumbasses for trading away 3 firsts and giving him that contract.
But yeah, I remind people that at least the Saints and Falcons were also interested in trading for him. Not to deflect away criticism but point out that this isn’t just the personal failing of some members of the Browns front office. The entire league is comfortable with covering up and dismissing the abuse of women.

u/potterpockets Browns 1d ago
I choose to believe it has something to do with us historically being able to regularly stop Derick Henry. Idk how or why. But its gotta be some kinda karmic balance.
That said, he is one of the most underrated players in the league IMO.
29
u/ChocolateMorsels Titans 1d ago
I still can’t judge Cam because Daboll is a garbage ass play caller, and even when he did march down the field to tie it late, he missed a wide open bellinger. I’m just lost.
Biggest blame on the loss goes to Daboll. Should’ve been 21-7 and this fuckin moron had the worst half yard line 4 down sequence I’ve ever seen.
27
u/Krisosu Titans 1d ago
Cam just seems to suck at throwing the football. He's navigating the offense fine. Managing protection at the line of scrimmage and checking plays. Making decent reads after the snap, then throwing 100 mph fireballs low and behind receivers on slants. Consistently.
Not sure I can blame that on Daboll. If his accuracy were even below average they'd be consistently moving the chains. He doesn't seem to be struggling with the offense, he's not panicking. He just can't hit receivers. They're getting open, and Ward is finding them. His anticipation and timing is pretty bad but not egregious for a 2nd year QB. He just isn't accurate.
6
u/ChocolateMorsels Titans 1d ago
I know I agree. It’s so confusing. He wasn’t exactly super accurate last year but he wasn’t this bad. And he’s throwing more ducks this year too.
He’s great at throwing screens to running backs, navigating the pocket, mostly limiting negative plays. But he whiffs far too often down the field. He’s got to fix that.
I still place a ton of blame on Daboll because he has no idea how to get this offense into a rhythm. Cam’s best quarter by a mile is the 4th because Daboll finally stops calling dumbass run plays at bad times and let’s Cam sling it. And no it’s not garbage time like everyone says, majority of the 4th quarter games have been close.
Daboll was infuriating all game just running and running and running. Then only calling pass plays in the most obvious situations.
2
u/Names_all_gone 1d ago
As a Browns fan, I felt for you guys. Daboll is a fucking idiot. I was losing my mind over some of the shit he called.

u/pangea_person Browns 1d ago

u/DragonstormSTL Titans Vikings 1d ago

Idk man Browns have let every team they’ve played this season score on the opening drive. So tbh as like me saying if our team played as well for the first drive as they do for the rest of the game we would be 5-1. Like sure but that’s a lot of “ifs”.

What about your obvious delay of game they didn’t call?
13
u/ajh6w Titans 1d ago
I’m not arguing either direction on this, merely pointing out that delay of game specifically is a call with a maddeningly inconsistent call rate, since it’s driven by the official looking up to see the clock and then looking to see a snap, so it’s treated like a grey area.
Make no mistake, I 10000% wish they would tighten up that procedure though. Nobody should argue delay of game in 2026.

You have selective outrage.

As a browns fan with plenty of experience in losing…….I’m going to let you in on a little secret…..this was the perfect game for the Titans. Close, exciting, and at the end the loss is more valuable than feeling good for a few hours. Trust me.

bc of one call? Give it a rest. There were missed calls on the Titans drive as well. Refs held their whistles the last 2 minutes for both teams, but if it helps you sleep to whine this much go ahead.

I love it when the ref crew that calls the most penalties per game decides to close their eyes for the browns last drive
