Game & Hardware Suggestions Megathread /r/Steam Monthly Game & Hardware Suggestions Thread.
Welcome to the Monthly Game & Hardware Suggestions Thread!
This monthly mega-thread is meant to contain advice, questions, suggestions & generic discussion on what to play or buy in terms of Games & Hardware.
Do you not know what to play? Want a Steam Deck or Steam Machine but unsure which model is best for you? Did you find a niche game that everyone should try? Wondering what GPU you should upgrade to or unsure about the specs of a computer? Do you want to share your unique experiences and learning curves with a piece of hardware? Can't find the perfect survival sim or unsure which 1 RPG out of the thousands available you should buy? Well this is the thread for you.
Now to make this work best and not just be spammed with generic & useless questions such as "What should I play?" or "What should I buy?", please be in-depth in what types of games/hardware you are looking for and why, and when giving advice it would be appreciated if you're more detailed than "I think X is good".
There are too many games to be able to properly suggest something with no background information, also simply commenting a game title and saying you like the game offers no actual value. The same goes for hardware: Saying you're thinking about buying X or you think Y is good with no other information, context as to why, your unique experiences, etc. offers no actual value or information to base a reply on.
Feel free to ask and discuss freely in the comments regarding games and hardware, whether you want advice on what to play, want to give advice to others on what to play, share a hidden gem you found, experiences you have with Steam hardware, or your review of a piece of Steam hardware. Generic discussions & questions about discounts, sales, events, specs is allowed as well. This is not meant to be a restrictive thread within the designated topics that this thread is for, however it is not a support thread nor is it the place to promote any blogs or curator pages or anything else, subreddit rules still apply.

Pyrowave is amazing!
Finally tried out pyrowave today after learning you could use it in the Apple TV steam link app. I'm completely blown away. I've done a ton of game streaming over the years with varying levels of success.
Most recently, I've been very happy using Apollo/moonlight to stream my games to the tv. Latency was great and image quality was certainly "good enough." But now, i don't even need to settle for "good enough." Pyrowave is pristine.
Streaming Witcher 3 to my tv at 4k60, CRISP image, and no latency? This was a revelation. I'm very impressed with the tech.
My goal is being happy with an office PC setup streaming to my living room has been achieved. If you have similar interests and a robust home network (pyrowave uses a good chunk of bandwidth) you owe it to yourself to try it out.

Guys I realy tried, but I can't cope with shitty/ai games that flooded this fest. So instead of searching by myself I'll just ask reddit like proper gentleman. I'm looking for some fun new games to play with my kids or/and wife on couch. Any recommendations?

What games are worth rebuying here in Steam?
I finally got to build a PC and started buying games on Steam. But prior to PC, I was able to collect and claim some free games from the competitor store from the web login.
So recently I've learned the value of steam workshop, mod support, shader cache and other cool features. I've also learned that some base games are "tutorial" while dlc is crazy good etc.
Example, KCD Royal Edition being good value.
So my question is what games that were given away for free in EGS are worth re-buying? I didn't play all the games given there.
Looking for games that provide value in DLC or Mod support or performance support.
Some games on radar - KCD, XCOM, GTA V, Tom Raider Survivor Trilogy, GoG, Hogwarts, Outer Worlds, Death Stranding, Cities Skylines, Civ 6 etc.
Please note that this is less about having a unified storefront but more about half experiences given for free. And free is free too, no complaints there.

Most of your list dont require mods per se
I woud suggest to buy some new games on sales instead, you can pull very big fish for 5$ sometimes

Man, I miss looking forward to gaming with friends after school, peak fortnite was something i took for granted. Does anyone have any insanely fun games I can play with 2 other friends, whether they are janky and stupid funny, enjoyable and teamwork based or just something we can be stupid in and harness that inner primary school fortnite feeling again? preferably free

We’re opening the first playtest of Synvector to 100 players!
Our prototype is still in a very early stage of development. There are plenty of bugs, technical issues, unfinished features, and rough edges. The gameplay is far from polished, and things may not always work as expected. We’re not hiding that. We want you to experience the game as it is right now.
Why invite players so early? Because your opinion can help shape the future of Synvector. We’re not just looking for bug reports. We want to understand what you enjoy, what feels frustrating, what you would change, and what could make this game truly interesting to its community.
Your feedback will help us decide where to take the game next and what to focus on during development. We want to build Synvector together with the people who are excited about it - not just make decisions behind closed doors.
If you’re among the first 100 players, please share your honest thoughts with us. Whether you love something, hate something, find a serious bug, or have an idea that could make the game better - we want to hear it.
We’ll read every piece of feedback. We can’t promise to implement every suggestion, but your voice will help guide our development.
Thank you for joining us at the very beginning of this journey. 🌌

Nioh 2 has one of the best combat showcases int eh soulslike genre.
Cyberpunk should be a priority if you are looking a fulfilling rpg experience (get the dlc now or later but do get it)
FF7 if you somehow don't want cyberpunk now, it's a good hack n slash game but yeah that shit is huge.

So ... I'm looking for some sort of game that would work good as an alcohol/drinking game. I have several board games, but finding a digital game on steam is proving difficult. The closest I have is a TTS mod (that I'm having trouble finding people for) and 8bit Fiesta (platformers aren't really my thing, and having trouble findin people for the multiplayer version)
Some game where you "drink if [this] happens", bonus if its hardcoded into the game. Something like Drunkopoly or Tipsyland sounds like alot of fun over the web.

Hi everyone, I’m looking for some advice on what to play next.
Recently, The Witcher 3 got a remastered version, Dragon’s Dogma has DLC, and there’s also the newer Crimson Desert. As someone who hasn’t played any of them before, which one would you recommend I start with? What are their pros and cons?
I just finished my big school exams, so I really want to dive into a game and play a lot.
Also, do people still recommend the Steam Controller nowadays? It doesn’t seem very popular in the Asian region where I live. I’m a PC player and usually play while sitting right in front of my keyboard and mouse.
Thanks in advance!

Is it better to get the Steam Machine or is it better to get a pc around the same price tag? I have been a console main my whole life but I want to play pc games. Which would be better? I also would not be playing mainstream games like cod. I just wanna play indie games and things of the like.

Depends on what you're looking for. In the end both options will give you a PC that allows you to do basically the same things. Steam Machine is easier to get started on, as you just plug everything in and have everything running out of the box with a console-like experience. A regular PC will take a bit more work to set up (though it's also pretty tricial nowadays), it will take up more physical space in your room, but will be able to get more performance out of the same amount of money plus upgrading in the future will be easier.

Hi! I am very unknowing when it comes to tech. My 11yo has been asking for either a gaming pc or a laptop for Christmas because he's found some games on Steam he really wants to play. Priced out a gaming pc and with a monitor, steam pass, headset - that's a no lol Hoping for a recommendation on a laptop he can download steam and play games from there. Hoping to cap the budget at or around $500. Is that even fathomable? I do have a MacBook Neo which I like but I just use it when I work from home. Do I need to get him something like that?
Thank you so much for any and all help!!:)

It's difficult to say whether 500$ is enough to get a laptop that's "good enough"
It depends on what sort of games your kid wants to play.
A 500$ laptop won't be able to play any modern games but if your child wants to play older games (which I honestly doubt but who knows) it could potentially run them
Every game should list its hardware requirements at the bottom of the store page
Maybe ask your kid which games they want and see if there are laptops with similar specs. (There are a few websites that allow you to do basic comparisons between specific graphics card etc)
Otherwise you could also check whether or not those games are available on a console like the Nintendo switch 2 which is priced at ~500$
